The PS4 vs Xbox One – What Matters Now

GottaBeMobile: We’re only eight months into this console generation. You’d think that in the short time that has passed since launch there wouldn’t be a ton of difference in how the PS4 compares against the Xbox One. But there is, and users thinking about purchasing either console have slightly different things they should be taking into account.

Who can get the games out.

Fatal-Aim1198d ago (Edited 1198d ago )

I look at bang for buck, and this here has always been the number one turnoff:

"The Xbox One’s Play and Charge Kit costs $25. The Xbox One’s Stereo Headset Adapter costs an Additional $25. There’s no getting around it – today the PS4’s DualShock 4 controller still puts the Xbox One controller to shame."

this doesn't even include everything else like gyro, accelerometer, and a touch pad all for about the same price as the competition.

my point is, if you can't get this right without charging out the butt while also thinking that it's innovative enough to drive new ideas forward, then its clear to me that your sense of direction from a gamer's perspective may, too, not differ much from what you've been doing since you been competing. perhaps this is why their 1st party still isn't on the same scale as the other two; they don't yet understand their direction in this market. therefore, neither can everyone else.

nice try to be insightful.

The use of batteries in the x1 controller allows you to replace a rechargeable battery for $10 rather than buying a new $50 controller when the battery inevitably can no longer hold a charge.

You may like a stereo headset jack but why would you want that when you can use a surround headset?

The battery life on my DS4 is downright shameful, the controller is not worth $50 for that battery and IMO the touchpad, light bar, speaker, gyro, accelerometer and headphone jack are all unnecessary gimmicks I'd gladly give up to have a longer battery life. I hardly play my PS4 so I have no reason to own 2 controllers, so once that battery dies I have to stop gaming for several hours while it recharges. I may have some hardware issues I'm not sure, but I have also had major syncing issues with the DS4 controller, but that might just be me.

One thing Xbox has been fantastic about is updating the system monthly, adding new features and stability updates. Microsoft just needs to keep that up, they are already bringing the games too.

PlayStation needs to update the console features more quickly they are falling way behind, and in games too. 2015 should be a good year for them game wise though I'd like to see them announce something that really excites me because I'm not overly impressed with anything announced yet. How about a SOCOM reboot?

Thing is, the symmetrical analogue sticks are not conformatable at all. The xbox controllers asymmetrical design is based on ergonomics and typical use. So beat on about how much better the DS4 is, science says otherwise. That means nothing against your own preference btw, I hate ergonomic keyboards and don't use them.

Plus when MS tried to 'innovate' this generation the whole internet took a dumb on them, so they revert back to same old, same old.

1st party studios, you're totally right there.

@XBLSkull

"I hardly play my PS4 so I have no reason to own 2 controllers, so once that battery dies I have to stop gaming for several hours while it recharges."

considering you hardly ever play your PS4 (and your name has XBL in it) seems like you're kinda biased already... i know nobody besides you that quits gaming for their controller to recharge.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-P...

there, that will solve your incredibly complex problem, a two-pack of 15ft charging cables for under a dollar... still MUCH cheaper than batteries or the rechargable pack for the X1. and if you played your ps4, you'd probably have 2 controllers by now, which is a pretty common thing for most gamers, and which also completely solves your problem...

@irishstoner

"Thing is, the symmetrical analogue sticks are not conformatable at all. The xbox controllers asymmetrical design is based on ergonomics and typical use. So beat on about how much better the DS4 is, science says otherwise."

1. im pretty sure BOTH controllers are ergonomical, seriously, do you think M$ was the first company to see if their controller was comfy? Pretty sure the only people who didn't check on that were the people who designed the NES controller!

2. I don't know how assymetrical thumbstick placement can be more ergonomic when both your hands are the same... seriously, science hasn't said anything on the matter. bring me 1 study where people who played with playstation controllers (1, 2, 3 OR 4) ever suffered any physical distress from the symetrical thumbstick placement... i'll wait.

the point is, quit trying to turn something SUBJECTIVE into something OBJECTIVE... if any actual study proved you right, sony would have switched designs already, cause im sure they would have heard about it before you.

When the battery runs low on your ds4 you can charge and play. My favorite thin c about it is that it utilizes the same cable as my phone (samsung galaxy s4) so I can switch them out if I need to.

Some games use the speaker on the controller well. Its up to the developer really. I personally think its cool when games change the lightbar color.

The DS4 has it all and innovative all for $50 but you played it down. But you think the Kinect is all golden and useful, right? Hypocrite!

system221198d ago

i actually prefer the x1 controller to the ds4 by a lot. the sticks are weird on the ds4, the battery sucks, its an odd size for my hands, the rubber wears out quickly. the xb1 controller also has impulse motors in the triggers which are hugely welcome and really help add a tactile experience. i think this was a far better add than a tiny speaker on the ds4 that sounds really tinny and usually startles me more than adds immersion. i do like that the ds4 has a standard usb charge though.

that said, $25 for a charge kit on the x1 is truly kind of annoying BUT the battery literally lasts more than twice as long as the ds4. i've owned both consoles since they were launched so I've definitely had some time to compare the two.

gamer4lifeyo1198d ago

@xblskull

The only thing I agree with you comment is the battery life and light bar. I have no plans on getting the camera. But on the other hand we don't know fully what plans they have for the light bar. As far as the rest of you comment, you sound like a complete fool. the headphone jack is the most used feature for me cuz I love the fact I can use any normal head phones without purchasing anything else. I've really enjoyed how some games used the speaker. What's your beef with the touchpad? As far as the battery eventually dying completely. Have you ever owned a ps3? I've had one for over 5 years with the same dualshock 3 thay came with it and never noticed it losing the ability to hold a charge, so why the hell would you expect this to happen to the dualshock 4? Do you have kids? Cuz I have 4 of them that play ps4 and forget to plug it in all the time when but never had to wait several hrs to game, lol. What a ridiculous statement. I have an extended Usb cord that I got fir less than 5 dollars, but even before I got that it still didn't let that stop me from gaming. You're a joke, I doubt you even have a ps4 after reading that retarded comment.

Azzanation1198d ago (Edited 1197d ago )

@Fatel-Aim
So you only buy whats the best bang for your buck. So my guess is you only owned a Wii last gen.

You also forgot to mention that the X1 comes with a better headset then the PS4's ear piece and the rumble triggers built into the X1 controller. To top it off, the X1 uses dedicated servers for all there games and has a stable online service in Live. Now im a PC gamer and I couldnt care less about either cobsoles. Your post it nothing more then bias fanboy nonsense that never own a X1 to begin with.

rainslacker1197d ago (Edited 1197d ago )

@XBLSKull

Ok I'll bite.

"The use of batteries in the x1 controller allows you to replace a rechargeable battery for $10 rather than buying a new $50 controller when the battery inevitably can no longer hold a charge."

Or...or you could buy a replacement batter for $7 and not replace your controller. Rechargable batteries don't last as long as the ones in the DS3/4 anyhow so your point is illogical. I have 3 PS3 controllers, 2 of them since launch day, and they still hold a charge. The other one I got when the DS3 released, and guess what...it holds a charge too, despite being used constantly for about 5 years now. Never had to replace a battery once.

"You may like a stereo headset jack but why would you want that when you can use a surround headset?"

Because most of the time, when listening to sound content, it's in stereo.

"but I have also had major syncing issues with the DS4 controller, but that might just be me."

Yeah, that's just you.

"One thing Xbox has been fantastic about is updating the system monthly, adding new features and stability updates. Microsoft just needs to keep that up, they are already bringing the games too."

Sony releases small updates about once a month. Big ones come every few months, and new apps are being added all the time to the PS Store. Sony is also bringing more games, so again, your argument falls flat. This part extends to your last paragraph too.

mike_honcho1197d ago (Edited 1197d ago )

as far as I'm concerned "what matters now" is kind of irrelevant.. for me and I'm sure many other people the games are what matters.. and for the whole "ps4 vs. xb1" debate truly the critics and, more importantly, the consumers have chose what they think is the better of the 2.. so say what you want about lack of game sand indies.. I'm thoroughly enjoying myself.. 2:1 in sales would suggest the majority of other people are doing the same.. and this next yeah is gonna be great as far as AAA's..

OT.. I love how every xb1 fanboy also owns a ps4.. not saying that some don't but not every user on here spouting off that they have both really do.. and anyways if you don't play it and it's so "terrible" then why not sell it?

bloodborne.

That is all

Hk85karlsson1198d ago

What's that? I've never even heard of that before....Maybe, just maybe, U mean DLNA?

Chupa-Chupa1197d ago

yup that's it! And xbox one is getting it next update. ;)

Artista 1198d ago (Edited 1198d ago )

The usual. .

Games/exclusives
Controller?
Network reliability
What platform do friends play on?

Weigh the pros and cons of both, and go with whatever you feel.

If you've got the money, and time to spend then you can't go wrong buying both.

Mega241198d ago

I think your point is very valid, my main reason for buying the PS4 was for the exclusives, and friends.

n4rc1198d ago

Yup yup..

And to the article.. Were 10 months in, get with the times ;)

OB1Biker1198d ago

How 'Next Gen' the new gen console is (performance, innovation, new gen only games) and whether its worth it instead of the last gen.

MonkeyOne1198d ago

I would like to see a keyboard with built in trackpad so I can use the web browser and do other things more easily.

mcstorm1198d ago

If you have a Xbox one and a tablet then using the Xbox smart glass is a great app to use rather than using a keyboard and mouse.

For me I'm kind of glad Microsoft got a load of flack at the start of this generation as they way the console has changed since this happened is amazing.

The console is far better than it was on day one with what it has added to it.
For me it has the better line up of games but that's debatable to what games you like and if I'm honest the wiiu has the best line up of games for me out of all 3.

I do think fans should put some heat on Sony to update the software on the ps4 quicker than they have and also bring the services the have shown off quicker too.

That said all in all I don't think any console is a bad console it all depends on what you want from your console to which one people should get.

For me I tend to buy all the consoles as I don't want to miss out on some games and its going to be the same this gen and when UC is out on the ps4 that will be when I pick one up to complete my collection.

Hk85karlsson1198d ago

U do realize that Sony had several features day 1 and MS have patched em in at a later date?
So it looks like MS is going strong with updates. But the fact is that Sony is on equal ground, so far.

The only thing missing is the media support Xbox owners got last week.

Eonjay1198d ago (Edited 1198d ago )

At this point, If specs and performance aren't deciding factors for you, then the other factors are all subjective. Get what you want. Or get both or get neither. Or get a Wii U or build a rig.
