The Sims 4 Review | Continue Play

Heather from Continue Play has been plugging away at The Sims 4 all week now, and she's finally given the verdict.

TL, DR version? "Go back to The Sims 3 and wait for the inevitable avalanche of expansions that is bound to come. Maybe, just maybe, Maxis will listen to fans; but for the time being, save your money."

Slammed it...Is it really that bad?

stuna11537d ago

Beat me to the punch! I was just about to ask that same question. I thought before the previews of the game were pretty positive.

For real, I was really surprised. A 3 is pretty low...that is like Spiderman 2 low (to Soon?)

Yeah, it's a total step back

This is how reviews should be done if a sequel, which usually adds content and improves on things, takes a step back instead making the game inferior to the others.

Big sites can sugar coat it all they want but at least some people are being honest.

No way is this game anything over a 6/7 out of 10.

Glad you feel like that.

It's fair to say that, as the Editor in Chief of CP, our philosophy is genuinely "by gamers, for gamers", rather than acting - either unwittingly or by design or legal bindings - as an extension of the publisher's marketing department.

That often means our scores don't align with many other sites, but that's fine with us. We don't want to simply echo the consensus opinion, we want to provide a genuinely honest review that sums up the feelings of the reviewer, while entertaining and informing the reader. We're looking to add a few other things to help that soon as well with our ground-up site redesign at the end of the month.

The game itself is not bad just everything on it is.

Tons of loading screens.
Removed about 40% of content from previews games

I thoght they learned from Sim city

stuna11537d ago

You know what they say about the first time? "It's a mistake!", the second time "It's intentional!"

Well in defense of both, both titles did what a lot of games do not do very well when making a sequel, which is streamline a lot of the cumbersome stuff that was in the past, I'll give them that on both games. But, lack of features that were in previous versions (SimCity and The Sims) is a complete slap to the face of fans of the games.

Taking away of larger city plots and custom maps in SimCity, and no more "open world" type gameplay in The Sims, are probably the biggest missteps in recent gaming history.

What if you haven't played any of the other sims games does that still make it a 3/10 to a new player?

kizzle321537d ago

I would say absolutely not...if The Sims 4 is your first step into a Sims game, it definitely deserves a 7 or 8 out of 10. The game is still enjoyable and has depth, but definitely not close to what was in Sims 3, hell, even Sims 2 to some manner.

If you want to play a Sims game, Sims 2 is free right now and is probably the best entry in the series.

I would say buy the previous games with all the DLC (yes there is alot), or don't buy it at all if possible they are straight up robbing gamers and it is in every EA game it is no accident.
