The gaming press declares that gamers are dead. But they are the ones who are becoming obsolete.
Sounds like good career advice, to me.
one thing for sure is that with exemptions the gaming press are no longer one of us, they brought this on themselves with their lack of professional standards and conduct, disrespecting their audience and claiming moral superiority.
They got caught out and now they are in damage control mode trying to place the blame elsewhere. They are desperately playing cards that a cornered sociopath would play. Unfortunately for them this is 2014 and we are no longer the dark ages. Their moves, motivation, and goals are too transparent. Great that you mention them claiming moral superiority because it really highlights some of the hypocrisy.
They are the plague of the gaming community . I have never seen such stupidity in my life .
Not only them, but the whole SJW scene that was trying to sh*t up the gaming is shaking in fear right now and using every pathetic tactic they can think of. For instance, after some a-hole (not associated himself with Gamergate in any way FYI) tweeted disgusting child porn pictures to Anita, she published the account's username on her Twitter, basically encouraging people to check it out for themselves. And Anthony Burch (ex Destructoid writer, writer of Borderlands 2) exploded to Gamergate supporters by saying that we enable and legalize harrasment by encouraging usage of CP pics to harrass others. Which completely ignores the fact that we were the ones who were mass reporting that account to both Twitter and FBI while Anita was trying to exploit the situation by turning it into "LOOK AT ME! I'M THE VICTIM" by using disgusting child abuse in her favor. And if these people have become this petty and pathetic, we can basically assume that their asses are on fire.
They have the means to spread BS everywhere and they are doing so to deflect attention away from their lack of integrity & skill.
Gaming "JOURNALISM" never began.. Gaming news has rather been here the whole time..
Only the game news "industry" would attack its own customers so brazenly. I mean McDonalds wouldn't change its menu to salads only and then start calling its customers stupid, ignorant fatties for almost unanimously protesting against the change. Indeed, games journalism needs to grow up and join the real world. At present it seems half-stuck in a college social studies class.
To hell and be damned with these corrupt advertisement agencies that pretend to be journalists. https://www.youtube.com/wat...
Seems they are rustled that I would rather go watch a video to get an idea of what a game is like. This is why Giant Bomb are one of the best, they have recognised the potential of video uploads and they do quick looks for games injecting their personalities to make an entertaining and enjoyable viewing. Rather than basing their score on their advertisement income.
Yes... yes it is.
Fact of the matter is people who play games do not need journalists. But the journalists need the people who play games.
"believe the hype"
Complete lack of maturity. Just a lot of scapegoats, excuses, and strawmen. Anyway, I agree with pretty much everything the article says. Since so much information is directly available to gamers now, gaming media has been forced to use cultural criticism to stand out and not their actual reporting. Then, all these rabid social justice extremists get their claws into the vulnerable gaming media, generating controversial opinion content. Combine that with social media and the Internet's tendency to get very toxic, and the whole thing just explodes.
"Gaming Journalism Is Over" Some people love to hyperbolize everything.
It's intended as a direct response to "gamers are dead" articles. Of course it's going to be equally hyperbolic.
And either statements are ridiculous. Video games are the fastest growing form entertainment right now, and neither gamers or gaming journalist are going to end, anytime soon
Large mainstream gaming journalism is a joke. I have no doubt in my mind deals are struck, you say something bad you don't get the chance to play or they got to tip toe around gaming companies otherwise they too will not invite to an event another mainstream website will go to. No such thing as freedom of speech anymore it's deals or uneducated opinions based on something. Gaming though is turning into a sport. Who is the best, who has the best specs, who has the most sales etc etc. Not like anyone on here has shares in a company and want it to grow for a legit reason. It's also a prime example of the human race wanting to see success and failure so in some cases it is true. The days of arguing which is better and bringing a friend with his console over to enjoy it all are over.
it's so childish to rely on gaming journalist for games in the first place. just watch trailers and gameplays and you get the point of the game, easy as that.
It isn't really. There is IGN and Gamespot who both have Journalists that are respected with massive followings on Twitter etc Then you have the Youtube Manchildren trying so hard to entertain themselves.
Journalists get you on the hype or hate train and then the rest is history. We were protecting these people a few years ago...
About time this issue starts being addressed. In the early days, guys that used to write about video games didn't make airs about being a "game journalist". They were just guys that loved video games and would write about them. Also, remember, not that long ago, it was very difficult to get game trailers, get into betas, and be allowed early unfinished release copies. Until Gametrailers came along, a lot of sites like IGN and Gamespot were going to a subscription model, just to watch game trailers. Now, "game journalism" went past that, turned into a lot of kids that needed their mom's help to change their diapers, and totally full of themselves, the delusion they were journalists totally going to their head. Now, to the present day, most "game journalist" reviews are total crap. It used to be the guy writing about the game would play through the whole game first, then write about it. Now, there are "game journalists" that have their assistant play through the game and submit a report that the review article is written from. This isn't even addressing all the various pay off methods that have developed to hype or hate a game. "Game journalism" has become a cess pool.
"David Auerbach is a writer and software engineer based in New York. His website is http://davidauerba.ch."... lol amateur journalists calling other amateur journalists "dead", cassic.
I'd much rather read something from some unbiased "amateur" journalist than someone who hides under the guise of an honorable job like professional journalism to justify the unethical crap they've been doing for years. And I'd much rather read 1 article from an amateur writer who has integrity than dingleberries that write pathetic stuff like "Gamers Are Dead" or "I Yelled "I RAPED YOU" To Someone In Gears, And I'll Never Do It Again".
The journalists are literally using desperate tactics to bring gamergate down and they can't. They hate the fact that gamers are calling out their BS and going to people on YouTube for gaming news, since they won' get hateful agendas slam in their face like gaming journalism has become.
