Can Microsoft Corporation Really Sell 5 Million Xbox One Consoles in China?

Later this month the Xbox One will release in China, an untapped market for the next generation consoles. Microsoft has stated they have roughly 5 million units ready for the market later this month. How do you think it will turn out?

The story is too old to be commented.
GeofferyPeterson1535d ago

Only if the Chinese government can spy on it's people through Kinect. Otherwise, no, it will flop.

FriedGoat1535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

I think your getting confused.
Microsoft (aswell as most other US tech firms) is handing YOUR data to the NSA, not the Chinese government.

Not that it matters, it's not like the NSA can use the fact that I enjoy doing helicopters in front of Kinect.

Blaze9291535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

we still running with that NSA bs huh... ok

FriedGoat1535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

Yes that BS.

Not like its fact or anything?
Not sure whether you are just naive, or whether nothing can sour your love for MS.

DivoJones1535d ago

I bet you're fun at parties.

Blaze9291535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

@FriedGoat so what do you do when the NSA infiltrates your computer or your ISP/cell phone carrier willingly provides the NSA with your private data?

Oh right, nothing. You take that penetration like a man.

JeffGUNZ1535d ago

@ Fried Goat

You do realize that they only give the authority to access data if needed. For instance, if some terrorist mails something throughout outlook about potential plans, or if they save documents to their skydrive. Almost every agency in the USA HAS to give access to the Government for national security. Same goes for your cellphone. Whichever provider you have, you better believe they have given access to the government. IE if you are a suspected terrorist/criminal this allows them to access their records/logs for investigation purposes.

I don't understand who would really have a problem with this if they are a law abiding citizen. It's not like they have a wharehouse full of people watching everyone's kinect or phone calls. Some people are very uneducated of how this works. I have been working in the criminal justice field for 10 years and have vast knowledge of these agreements. Nobody is spying on anyone. Unless your ISIS, the government doesn't give a crap about you sitting on your couch playing battlefield.

This agreement only eliminates the need to petition for a warrant to obtain this data. That's all. The fact that some people on here think the NSA is spying on joe gamer is laughable. Most of those comments have to be trolling attempts.

FriedGoat1535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

@Blaze I don't live in America so there's not much I can do.

@Jeffguns Please try not to use the law abiding citizens shouldn't care shpiel. So I should bend over for a anal examination and be fine with it because i've got nothing to hide?

Don't be naive about what data they are collecting under the "OMG terrorists are a threat" pretense. I cant believe there are still people defending against this blatant invasion of privacy. It's already been proven that the data and phone records they keep have been abused by people.

I'm pretty sure any data "handed over" will suffer the same fate.

BTW, you may notice i'm actually providing links for my argument whilst you are relying on your fingertips.

Is this site full of MS shills or what?
Stop talking absolute rot.

At least post links closer to this date or are you gonna keep using the same old links 10 years down the road. :)

choujij1535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

@FriedGoat "Not that it matters, it's not like the NSA can use the fact that I enjoy doing helicopters in front of Kinect."

Now there's a Kinect game that needs to happen.

mikeslemonade1535d ago

It's too expensive. They will buy a PC and PS4 before getting a X1. The only advantage is the X1 will launch there first.

nirwanda1535d ago

@friedgoat maybe they don't mind MS recording any family members walking past the Kinect naked or even slowing down there internet sending the recordings to Microsoft.

It's going to have to compete with the Super Microtendo Playcast Dream station 7 though..

How can they compete with that?

Imalwaysright1535d ago

Considering that 5 million people is only 0.36% of China's population, it's not impossible.

choujij1535d ago

Not impossible, but improbable.

kneon1535d ago

But the addressable market is far smaller. If you only consider those with the means to buy a console you've already drastically reduced the potential sales. Then there is only a small percentage of those people that actually have any interest in buying any console.

Still there should be enough to put it on top for a month. But unless they start making games specifically geared towards that market it may not be a worthwhile market to pursue in the long run.

Kryptonite42O1535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

Agreed. That $600 price tag is the only thing that might kill them.. they should lower the price if they really want to take advantage of this situation. With Sony not being available in China, it gives MS a chance to capitalize in this region.. but that hefty price might blow it for them. If the people of China want to game on a next gen console, alot of those hardcore gamers might not want to wait for Sony to release and automatically go for whats available. If they were smart, they would lower that damn price tag.

I love how far I had to scroll to find the relevant comments that weren't about the nsa spying on people.. good times.

darthv721535d ago

eliminate the impossible, whatever is left (however improbable) must be the truth.

PS4isKing_821535d ago

I think a better question would be, can it succeed anywhere? It's getting pounced saleswise in every market worldwide currently. With the US as it's only main form of significant sales this gen, it's looking at a rather low install base. I can see it doing slightly better lifetime sales than the original xbox, mostly due to America's love for the brand. But worldwide, this gen belongs to Sony.

ThePope1535d ago

Haha, not that your name doesn't say it all BUT 5 million X1 in LESS than a year is great. Is it doing worse than the PS4? Yep. Does it matter? Nope! I have no problem finding an online game at anytime of day, and I get to play on those smooth as butter Dedicated servers.

The thing you have to ask is; if the only (for the most part) people that dont like the X1 dont own one is it a great console to own? The answer is yes. Online and in real live everyone I know who has an X1 couldn't be more happy.

FriedGoat1535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

Microsoft said 5 Million SHIPPED. Nobody knows how many have sold, sounds like they don't want us to know.

choujij1535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

Remember months ago when MS was saying how the Xbone was ahead of the Xbox 360 sales for the same time frame?

Considering the Xbox 360 had a smaller launch, and was able to pump out 5 million by June 30, it's going to be interesting to see if MS will continue to toot that horn in their next Xbox sales report.

My guess is by now (Sept) it's fallen behind Xbox 360's sales.

Enemy1535d ago

Nope. It hasn't even sold 5 million in America.

mrpsychoticstalker1535d ago

It will probably be more like 10 Million is the first few months.

Enemy1535d ago

That's a funny comment.

llxKonanxll1535d ago

10 million shipped. /hardyharhar.

stuna11535d ago

You jest I'm sure!? Here's my take on it! The console sales will be serverely crippled mainly because of software available for the platform. Sex, Drugs, and Violence are major issues that the Chinese government frowns upon. Most games will be restricted because of this fact. The same rules will apply to the other consoles as well, with the WII U having the upper hand as to being more acceptable concerning the rules.

I can see them all getting their foot in the door to an extent only to be reversed engineered, like most popular products from foreign countries, then having major restrictions placed on them limiting their functions as to what they are able to do.

Kayant1535d ago

"It will probably be more like 10 Million is the first few months" - Lmaoooo you do know they are only allowed to sell 5m right...

PlayableGamez1535d ago

Well you forgot to factor in, that there are more people in china than the US.

TheFallenAngel1535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

No! It will sell more than other markets but I don't think it will sell 5 million.
