Nintendo Still Hasn’t Learned

The New Nintendo 3DS is seemingly a great device and a suitable upgrade compared to the previous one. In fact, it’ll be the one to make me finally purchase a 3DS. However, Nintendo still hasn’t learned from the mistake of too many different versions of their devices as well as confusing names.

if it was a mistake they wouldn't have made the gameboy color, gameboy advance, gameboy micro, DS Lite, DSi, DS XL, 3DS XL... all contributed the success of their respective platform.

It's a successful business model and Sony and MS also do it.. nothing out of the ordinary.

That's not analagous.

None of the different Gameboy or NDS iterations fractured the library. This new 3DS model does. That's a big problem.

And, "suitable upgrade?" LMFAO. It's barely an upgrade at all. Just a flimsy justification to try and suck more money out of the faithful.

It actually has some good upgrades to it. We'll have to see how much faster it is at release though.

What good upgrades?

AFAIK it's the same size screen as XL and same hardware, with only a mildly faster CPU and some superfluous buttons.

Which is basically nothing.

It'll sell like crazy in Japan, in the west, I'm not so sure... the biggest mistake though is that they totally killed 3DS sales in the west from the time of this announcement until the New 3DS gets released here... People who would have gotten a 3ds to play smash will now want to wait until they can get the one with a c-stick for example

Noahmtodd634d ago

For sure. I know I'm waiting now.

It will still sell because a lot of the public is uneducated about this kind of stuff. And when there are price drops to clear old inventory, it will still sell.

While I agree that anyone planning to buy a 3DS for smash bros won't be buying one until it releases, that was most likely the case before a new model was announced so nothing has changed in that regard. On the other hand, I'm sure a large percentage of smash fans have already bought a 3DS for other games and a large chunk of them will buy this new system.

Another thing to consider is that you won't have a lot of people who have been holding off to buy a 3DS for SSB enter the second hand market- most of them will probably buy new.
