Sony Confirms The Last of Us Remastered Sold Over 1 Million Copes; Joins Knack, inFAMOUS & Killzone

During the press conference held today in Tokyo by Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida announced officially that The Last of Us Remastered is now a million seller, having overtaken the one million copies mark in sales. (PS4, The Last Of Us Remastered)

No? The Last of Us for PS3 sold 7 million as of July 16th. The Ps4 version surpassed 1 million as of today. Do the math.

The last of us has only sold 4.8 million to consumer's.Sony has shipped 7 million on the ps3 but not sure why?Seems like they flooded the market with the game.So if you do numbers sold to consumer's its 5.8 million all together. Now you can do the math
Azzanation  +   48d ago
Remasters aren't the same game. TLOU on PS3 sold 7 million and the Remastered on PS4 sold 1 million so far. (Those figures could be included what they shipped, not what they sold to customers)

A lot of the hardcore fans basically rebought the remastered edition. Basically what your saying is Halo MMC edition is going to add more sales to the Original Halo game? No doesn't work like that. Some people don't like the old version and are sold on remasters. If TLOU came out on the PS4 exactly the same as the PS3 version then yes you include the sales as a combine.

And for the record, 1 million isn't that great anymore. Maybe back in the N64 days but these days 1 million is a standard for every game unless its really bad. The gaming community is so big now and a lot more expensive, that games can still flop if they only sell 1 million. Look at TR reboot, that sold 3 million across 3 platforms (1 million per console) and Square were very disappointed.

http://www.kotaku.com.au/20...

TLOU would have cost ND more to make then TR.

considering MS system seller titanfall sold about 3 million over all formats, not forgetting it was at a time of the game being given free with the reduced price console and ND sell 1m for a remake(last of us) which will of been bought by alot of people who are new to PS brand imo and not die hard last of us fans,i think 1m so far is good enough because alot of people are holding of ps4 till destiny etc arrive
UltraNova  +   48d ago
1 million for a new game is not that good yes, but 1 million for a years old game that already sold 7 million is quite an achievement! Well in my part of the world at least ;-)
remixx116  +   48d ago
Well 3 mil for a multiplatform game with 200mil+ platforms to release on is kinda mediocre, but 1 mil for an exclusive on a system with only 10 mil consoles to release on is pretty good.
Azzanation  +   47d ago
TLOU sold 1 million on a platform that has sold over 10 million. Thats 1/10 that own a PS4 own TLOU. Also its an exblishied franchise.

You guys for some reason like to compare it to Titanfall, well if thats the case then here we go. Titanfall on XB1 alone has sold over 2 million copies on a console that has sold 5 million units total. Thats 1/3 that own a XB1 own Titanfall plus its a new IP. TF failed to sell well on 360 and PC but is one of the most successful selling games on a next gen console this year.

@azzanation

@ramiuk1

no one was saying titanfall wasn't a success, in fact why even bring it up here I haven't seen anyone making tlou v. Tf comparisons. Also yes titan fall was a big success for the xb1 but lets not ignore the fact that it sold a large amount units due to being bundled with the console for free.

I just find it a little wierd to bring it up here is all.

@2v1 You need to go into the free games+demos section of the playstation store. Searching for it by name doesn't work for some reason.

hopefully it sells 10 million as it will be Naughty Dog's first million seller. anyone on the fence should buy it. if you like videogames you will love The last of us.
LOL_WUT  +   49d ago
I enjoyed it very much for the PS4 on hard difficulty and being ultra stealthy but I just didn't like the Left Behind DLC. With that said Congrats to ND and Sony! ;)
DanteVFenris666  +   49d ago
Only reason I didn't like the dlc Is because the entire time I was anticapted to see Ellie kill her zombie friend and her reactions once she finds out she is immune to the virus. Kinda disappointed it stopped before those parts. But still had fun with it
Salooh  +   48d ago
Same , masterpiece in main story but disappointed with the dlc because of it's story not the way it's' told or it's gameplay
Evilsnuggle  +   48d ago
I was initially angry about The last of Us dlc. Why I had high hopes and dreams for the TLOU dlc . Like the back story Tommy and joel hard times surviving or Ish's story. I wanted to play as joel because he is a bad @$$.

But I did enjoyed the TLOU dlc.
badboyz09  +   49d ago
The LOU2 will definitely go Diamond(10million copies/albums sold)!

What do you mean first million seller all their Uncharted games sold over 1 million. Part 2 and 3 have over 6 million sold.
spacedelete  +   49d ago
that was a typo. 10 million not 1 million.
HighResHero  +   49d ago
It likely will as the install base grows and especially if they do a greatest hits version. It will probably go in my collection after I get a PS4.
jjonez18  +   49d ago
10m shouldn't be too hard. It has only been a year, afterall. Given Sony and ND continue to support it with psn sales/dlc/price drops.

"Knack"

Lol.
Concertoine  +   49d ago
Knack was bundled with every console for the Japanese launch. Im curious how much it sold outside of those numbers.

I wish that game was more successful in its execution so it couldve sold better and we could see more games like the PS1- era platformer.

I actually bought it new and enjoyed the crap out of it. The local coop on the hardest difficulty setting is a really enjoyable experience and incredibly well-balanced, similar to playing games like New Super Mario Bros. U with another friend.

The only thing I didn't like was the fact that you couldn't keep your progress if you wanted to start anew on a higher difficulty setting. That's the only reason I haven't got the platinum trophy for this underappreciated game.
knifefight  +   48d ago
Knack was bundled free with the first 400,000 PS4s in Japan, yet they counted toward its sales.

If one wanted to subtract that from its total, one could.

I'm sure some of those people would've bought it, but judging by how poorly PS4 software has done in Japan, not many. Certainly not 400,000, for sure. Probably less than 100,000.

Killzone was hands down the worst game I have played on either the Xbox One or PS4. TLOU on the other hand is one of the best single player games I have played since Halo. Naughty Dog deserves every cent they earned on TLOU.
Twiggy  +   49d ago
Killzone 2 would have been a better fit for you, wasn't all that impressed with Shadow Fall myself.
Ultr  +   49d ago
Yeah K2 was beast. But shadows fall is not bad, just not that good
Finalfantasykid  +   49d ago
I thought the single player was garbage myself (it got a little better about half way in but was still pretty terrible). The multiplayer was pretty fun though. KZ2/3 had better stories, although I wouldn't say the series is really known for its story telling.
SilentNegotiator  +   49d ago
Shadowfall's SP was pretty mediocre; it just didn't have the level design of the previous games.
Kane22  +   49d ago
if killzone shadow falls is the "worst" game you've played so for this gen. then i know you haven't played every game then. killzone is ok at best

Ryse was better but still lacking
enjoyed Ryse campaign more than killzone by far
Bennibop  +   49d ago
I am sorry but you obviously never played the fighter within or Ryse which was repetative as hell. The multiplayer on shadow all is brilliant (single player was ok.)

gotta disagree with multiplayer. It was okay also, nothing made me want to keep playing after 4 mathces. Not even weapon unlocks or getting XX kills with X weapon.
GiggMan  +   49d ago
The worst game you've played on Xbox one or PS4 hands down?

Seriously, I can name quite a few worse game on both platforms.
dantesparda  +   49d ago
Ryse and DR3 are the two games worst I've played from either system.
Dontworrybhappy  +   49d ago
Well if KZ2 ever comes to PS Now, ill hop on that shit.
^^ @ Ultr Yeah thats how I felt about Crysis 3
And at others, yea i didnt play Ryse cause i heard it was bad. PS4 peeps told me KZSF was awesome. They lied.
Also dont get me started on Kinect only games. The Kinect is awesome for traversing games and menus. But in no way do the PS eye or Kinect deserve a 100 or 50 dollar price tag. 40 or 30 seems reasonable to me. Actually 50 for Kinect would be doable. Love 'record that' feature.

1 million out of 10 million units , not a great attach rate. I would have thought it would have been a must own for every PS4. Although i have to admit , the same thing happened this time , played it for a 3 play throughs and now its in the trade pile.
mkis007  +   49d ago
thats like saying 9 million out of 80 million 360's for Halo 4, not a great attach rate...Just keep in mind it's only a month after release.
chaosx  +   49d ago
I think its more a representation of people who have upgraded to the PS4 from the PS3 and have already played it and new PS4 customers. Its a great number for a Remaster. But thought it might have been higher given it was the only AAA of note being released in August.
YodaCracker  +   48d ago
That's a great attach rate for a game that released 7 years into the console's lifecycle. Attach rates are always higher at the beginning of a console generation when there are few big games to play. Just look at Titanfall on the Xbox One - over 2 million copies sold to a 5 million install base. 40% attach rate!
mkis007  +   48d ago
YOda

That also isn't a remaster of a game that was released a year ago...and that has already sold 7 million before accounting the new gen version.
Bytor  +   49d ago
He didn't say one million he said Kill Zone Nack Infamous and the Last of Us all sold over a million copies. Who ever wrote this article is miss quoting him.
chobit_A5HL3Y  +   48d ago
1/10 people is actually a great attach rate. halo, which is ms' biggest franchise averages the same amount.
KakashiHotake  +   49d ago
I think being a launch title really hurt Killzone. Trying to make that launch deadline didn't do it too many favors. They probably would have delayed it to give it more polish but after Drive Club and Watch Dogs both got delays, they didn't have much of a choice. So overall it turned out to be a good game but I think with more time it could have been great.
purp13m0nk3y  +   49d ago
Agree with you there. As far as launch titles go, I actually thought it was quite good.

I actually sat down and played through some of the campaign over the weekend and had fun. It's just so hit and miss on both gameplay and visuals.

There are some truly gorgeous visuals in some areas (still holds up against any game released to date) but then there are also some very meh moments and unpolished areas too. Likewise with gameplay. Some of the set pieces and sequences are awesome fun, but sadly there are also a lot of mediocre corridor shooting in between.

Still. I think everyone who is a KZ fan should play through the SP at least once. Especially if you can find a bargain copy second hand somewhere :-)
spaceg0st  +   49d ago
played through on ps3, bought and played through on ps4 for $50, sold for $40 on ebay. Great game.
OOMagnum  +   49d ago
I thought they sold like 1.5 million first day? I swear you cant trust anything on this site.

The last of us remastered is a separate game from the last of us.
So nope it just broke 1 million.
BinaryMind  +   48d ago
Great game, but it's not encouraging to know that developers will look at these sales and ask themselves "Why bother making a whole new game when we can sell an easy million with a cheap remaster?" Of course, they have probably already figured that out.
MegaRay  +   48d ago
" Of course, they have probably already figured that out"
They figure out the Ps2 era one. But now they figured the PS3's remastered (aka up res and fps) is easier money
S2Killinit  +   48d ago
not too many games can generate this type of sales for a remaster. I don't think. This one is an exception.

good for them, the game deserves all the sales it gets. Besides that its a remaster, its still the best game to play on the new consoles for those who haven't played it (at least).
