EA's Madden franchise has sold more than 100 million units to date, but how did John Madden start a sports gaming revolution...
Exclusive rights to names..likenesses and teams I would think.
Shutting out the competition. That always works.
i think NFL games are fun, but i've never bought a Madden after the exclusivity contract, and i wish other people would make a stand instead of continually buying it... ONE YEAR of sub-10,000 copies sold, and they might learn a lesson... not saying we'll ever see a NFL 2K game again...
Straight cash, homie.
anticompetitive adjective anti \-kəm-ˈpe-tə-tiv\ : tending to reduce or discourage competition, see Microsoft.
Except Microsoft encouraged competition by becoming a player in the videogame race to begin with.
While this is just off-topic, Microsoft has done nothing to encourage any real competition.
It's easy to become number #1 without any competition
That's because EA Sports acquired an exclusive rights agreement with the NFL and NFLPA to be the sole creator of NFL video games. The deal terminated 2K Sports production of any further NFL games.
By monopolizing it.
They became king of the gaming gridiron by making sure they were the only game in town. No one is going to buy a pro football game that does have real life teams and players.
If 2K Sports could legally make NFL games no one would play EA's Madden. 2K Sports > EA Sports any day.
"I bought this exclusive license straight cash." 2k would have buried Madden.
1 billion dollars worth of exclusiveness?
Buying the rights to football lol they made it a monopoly pretty much
