In this morning’s Nintendo 3DS Direct, Nintendo announced their latest model of the 3DS series with the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL, that has improved features including a more powerful CPU from its predecessor.
damn. I just bought my XL last November. Now you are telling me I have to upgrade again already because it's not powerful enough? I'm all for redesigns or XL's of the current generation handheld. But not too keen on releasing more powerful units during the same life cycle. Basically gives a big middle finger to those of us that own the 3DS or XL...
I completely agree... Im so freaking pissed, because they are so awesome, and yet i basically have to throw away my 3DS XL. The interchangeable covers are so awesome, and how they change the theme of the menu!
They should have just come out with a completely new powerful handheld, in the form of an 8 inch or 10 inch FullHD tablet but with dual analogue sticks, buttons, triggers, etc etc. Kinda like the controller for the WiiU, but FullHD and stand-alone. Also, this will once again confuse many potential customers, just like what happened in the move from Wii to WiiU, where many people won't realise the new device is actually new and more powerful...
too bad for early buyers, but i have been waiting for this 3DS for so long! now give me a release date in europe please!
Now that it means very much, but if you trade in your old 3DS they usually let you transfer your data before you turn it over. That at least can shave off some of the money you have to spend. I have to wait a while before I can get the new model because I'm putting a lot of my cash into a PS4 right now.
same as ds and dsi, come on dont make it seem like this is new
still a pain when I just got it less than a year ago. plus I don't believe Nintendo ever made software that only worked on the DSi, so I would say that is a poor comparison.
I don't believe Nintendo has ever released software that only worked on one model in the same generation before. So don't tell me that this is to be expected. When they had the DS, DSi, DSi XL there was never a game that only worked for one but not the others. I don't have any issues with revisions, the 3DS to the XL was only natural and to be expected. But not a 3DS with a better processor inside. Nintendo isn't Apple.
DSi had dsiware... Eshop type games only on dsi .. So nintendo has done it.
I do know why they are making xenoblade for the new 3DS because they want to ignite 3ds sales in Japan with a well made RPG
If there is a trade in program i won't have an issue.
You mean demake
Actually, the 3DS' hardware is more powerful than the Wii's hardware.
For some reason though they needed to make a slightly more powerful one.
I have been praying for this day for a long time. My prayers have been answered! Xenoblade Chronicles on the go! I thought this would never come. It's like Iwata looked into my soul and saw my deepest desires!
So you are okay with buying a whole entire new 3ds for one game?
So glad I waited to buy a 3DS. And now this! Hope this gets localized also!
Shulk's in Smash. I'd only be surprised if they DIDN'T localize it.
port = remake lol
are you kidding me? They literally created a new machine. This new 3DS has a better CPU in it. Xenoblade will not be playable on older 3DSs This is the kinda sh!t that these companies do *sigh* lol.
Yeah how are they give us better things to bring us better games on the go! Damn them for listening to fans and including a second analog stick, better WiFi, better 3D (not that I actually use it), and ultimately (and highly likely) take a step toward their unified Console idea with the WiiU . They should stick with the old and never provide the new.
Dude. . . I'm not saying it's all bad. . Take it easy with the sarcasm. I'd understand if it's a brand new handheld.. It's still a 3DS, just a little faster. I can't play Xenoblade on my 3DS. . I 'll have to buy another one. There could be more games down the line that can't be played on a regular 3DS. It's both good and bad.
cool, now we just have to wait for Sony and MS to make upgraded version of their console/handheld and blocking games on older models. What a sweet, sweet way to force people to buy multiple console/handheld in a generation.
Who in the hell asked for entirely new 3DS that will play games that the original models can't? Oh that's right..... nobody
this happen with the ds and dsi, didnt sony did that with their psp, one of them had better performance than the older one......I understand you upset, but this stuff happen in the past, should be use to it
But didn't the DSi have almost no exclusive titles? Xenoblade alone makes this a bigger deal than the DSi situation. Also, I don't recall Sony ever doing this with the PSP.
I'll stick with my original 3DS. Play Xenoblade Chronicles on my Wii U, then get the next new Nintendo handheld in 5 years. Problem solved.
Mine broke recently but im pretty happy now cause i can buy this but the only thing i really want is a higher resolution.
This is a down port like Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D was. Also, you can't call it a remake when the visuals are going to be taking major downgrades than upgrades.
so you seen the game?
I've seen the trailer. I saw popins and horribly low textures and low low character polys and grass disappearing when the camera zoomed in on Shulk. Even with the boost in CPU (and rumored doubled RAMS), the game on 3DS will still look horrible.
I am a little upset, I am putting my 2DS on eBay today before it has no value. My new shin megami tensei game will have to wait lol
and I just bought a 3ds xl few months ago..
OMG Nintendo why do you have to sour everyone's feelings towards Xenoblade with this kind of stuff. Though it doesn't really concern me as I don't have a 3DS and already own a copy of XB for Wii to play on Wii U, but only "new models"? Seriously Nintendo! So many wanted this game and missed out already thanks to your lazy localization attitude and now you pull this one?! Why not say you silently made a new handheld altogether and screwed the 3DS and everyone who bought one with it. Cause that's what just happened. Edit: Of course I'm super happy there will be a port of some sort in the first place. But it's a shame it has to come with an other bumper. And that is even more of a shame because it's really an extraordinary good game every one should try once.
The only thing im happy about is that Xenoblade Chronicles is getting more of the exposure it deserves, which will hopefully equal better sales this time around. Now im beginning to think that as Xenoblade seems to be firmly on Iwata's mind, this 'big' hd remake next year will be Xenoblade Chronicles HD for Wii U.
its to stop piracy guys wouldt be shocked if wii u is next cuz same thing
At least this isn't as bad as that time George Lucas ruined my childhood, and the lives of millions. On a side note, why would they announce the new 3DS now, and say it's not coming to Europe until 2015? This could potentially damage their sales a bit, considering its not just a small revision. It's a substantial upgrade. Nintendo sure love nickel and diming their consumers. Can't wait for the Super Ultra New New 3DS XXL edition.
To me it's in fact a new handled if it plays games "older versions" of the device cannot. But I guess they thought people cry foul that the new handheld wouldn't contain substantial enough upgrades to warrant a new name. What they created is a bastard, destined to confuse everyone. It's the Wii U reveal all over again.
If I've interpreted this correctly, Nintendo are releasing a slightly more powerful 3DS that's still a 3DS, and there will now be games like Xenoblade that will only work on this slightly more powerful model. If true, this is beyond ridiculous. I'd be all for a whole new handheld with a more significant power increase, and a better resolution however. Nintendo just don't appear to be learning from their mistakes.
did this before with gameboy color. nothing new. just try to play oracle of ages in a gameboy pocket. won't work. its a tried and true formula for them. also pokemon crystal works on color but not pocket
Its a rip off
Nintendo makes games that will force people to buy their systems. Take the Fire Emblem series. More FE games come out on handhelds than any other system. Why? Not because they sell alot of games, but they help sell their handheld systems. Many hardcore strategy rpg lovers buy the Nintendo handheld systems just to play them and Nintendo knows this. I keep hoping for a true FE game for my Wii U. Doesnt look like one is coming. Now Nintendo is doing the same with Xenoblade.
I'm a Nintendo fan, I support a lot of what they do, but this is flawed on numerous levels. Calling it the *New*Nintendo 3DS is a bad move, splitting the user base is a bad move, making a portable port of Xenoblade (that is exclusive for the *New* 3DS) instead of an HD remake/port for WiiU is a bad move. The hardware redesign is fine, the second stick is awesome, but this should have just been new hardware and not a 3DS.
So let me get this straight, Nintendo decides that the 3ds needs another refresh, so it decides to finally add the second analog stick to the machine, which they've should of done for a while already, they add give It a better 3d screen, add NFC compatibility, but the biggest part here, is the fact that they give it a better CPU, which in turn means games exclusively for that system. If anything, they're splitting the market here which is messed up. This isn't killing the vita at all for those that think its a nail in coffin for that machine, in fact you're giving people an option to make the switch. I know it's too early to tell, what gonna happen, but If I was a reason who had no knowledge of what was going on and I decide to buy a 3ds game for my 3ds, how am I going to find out if my 3ds will play that game? Smh....
Was going to finally grab a 3DS soon. Seems I have reason to wait a little longer. And I'll have a fantastic game to grab day one, it seems.
I dont think they can make/call this new portable hardware simply because its been intimated that Nintendo's next console will be a hybrid- one machine encompassing home console features/games and a secondary function or docking station for portable gaming. Since the handheld market is slowly dying, an 'all-in-one' machine makes sense. (The portable part of their next machine may have something to do with their QOL 'wearable' tech, i.e. a smartwatch or wristband you wear, and can connect to the main home console.)
I have two 3DS's, what's gonna happen to them? All of a sudden Nintendo has made them obsolete! WTH!!!!!
"Satoru Iwata also mentioned that several other titles are in development exclusively for the New Nintendo 3DS. These will not be playable on the old 3DS models." In other words, basically all future major 3DS titles will require the new 3DS. This is ridiculous. Who wants to shell out a couple hundred bucks for a new version of the system they already own? Unless my 3DS XL breaks, I have absolutely no intention of buying a new one until they release the next generation of the system (3DS2? 4DS?). Also is "new" 3DS what it's actually called? Seems like a great way to cause confusion among consumers.
"Seems like a great way to cause confusion among consumers" Between this and the Wii U . . . you would think they enjoy doing such things.
If Sony/Microsoft brought out a new controller for their consoles which had an extra button or two to play on newer games there would be a HUGE uproar. Double Standards....every time
XD omg, this is rich, Nintendo good job, I'm all for this, 3DS owners deserve this.
The heck is wrong with Nintendo
This is sickening for me to hear. I bought the 3DS on day one and I knew that a future model would come out later. But this to me is just wrong. I was fine with the old one and could careless about a slim version. But this isn't even that but a completely new system. I would be less mad if this was the next generation DS. So I guess this means I can't play any of these games until the next gen system comes out. Which because of this news I think the next gen system is even going to take more years before it comes out now.
GREAT news for me!
nvm, game still looks really ugly to me. I was hoping for better visuals.
You could say this new 3ds is a new start or like a 2nd generation iphone etc. nintendo had to release new hardware to meet their projections. This type of stuff always hurts the consumer .. If apple can get away with it every year why is it so shocking that a gaming company is doing the same thing. But to me if this happened on home consoles id be ticked. Im not so mad about the new 3ds because you kind of have to buy more than one due to normal usage. I only have the original 3ds . I feel for those who bought several already!
They could at least have the honor and allow people to trade in the old for the new one.Shame on you Ninty.
So now Nintendo will have two handheld devices. And you have to be careful what game you buy because it might not work on your device. This is not cool. Which bright mind at Nintendo thought of this?
Terrible move by Nintendo, 3DS is doing fine, looks like i will not buy a Nintendo portable device for a long time.
So wait... does this mean the remake won't work with the older 3DS/XL models? :(
