The original Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction that Lucasarts released for the Xbox is at the top of my list for all time great sleeper hits. The game sold well enough to be considered a hit, but it wasn't such a monster hit that the world is going nuts waiting for the sequel. But those who played and loved the first one, with its sandbox style gameplay mixed with high-explosive fun are definitely pumped about the sequel. You can count us in that group.
New publisher EA (and parent company to series developer Pandemic Studios) let us finally get our grubby mitts on a controller, to get a feel of how Mercs 2 is going to feel, how some of the new elements and features are going to play out, and what kind of overall experience gamers are going to have when it hits retail in August of 2008. Even though the build we played was far from being fully complete or polished, it definitely lit a spark inside of us that has lain dormant since we finished the first game.
