Relax, Pokken Tournament Will Come to Wii U

Christopher Buffa (Prima Games): The Pokemon Company shocked millions of fans this morning with the teaser trailer for Pokken Tournament, a collaboration with Tekken publisher Bandai Namco. Essentially a Pokemon fighting game, the Japan arcade exclusive will receive plenty of attention leading up to its 2015 release, particularly when it comes to the Wii U. Almost immediately, fans begged Nintendo to bring the game to its console, where it would undoubtedly shine among the system’s dedicated community.

To be honest its just another case of frustration that Japan is being catered to rather than Wii U owners.

Annoying but I don't mind the wait.

Concertoine1246d ago (Edited 1246d ago )

Yeah Nintendo has focused almost entirely on Japan since launch in terms of game selection... to their detriment really.

Not saying to make FPS's but they need something like Rogue Squadron was to the GC for the west to sell the Wii U.

TekoIie1246d ago (Edited 1246d ago )

Rogue Squadron was a brilliant game. It's a shame that we won't see a remake or remaster of it. I remember the studio that developed it considering a 3ds port before they got shutdown.

Nintendo of America is in charge of what comes to America. That is why we aren't getting a lot of the games that Japan has on the Wii U, and why the dates are always pushed back to the last 3 months of the years.

Nintendo hasn't focused on Japan. Nintendo of America has focused on trying to fit on paper marketing methods that haven't worked. NOA is responsible for tyring to market to children and not distinguishing the Wii U from the Wii(this is why the Iwata hate has never made sense to me).

Nintendo of Japan tries to get games for all audiences. That is why Iwata got Yakuza 1&2 HD for the Wii U. Nintendo of America is the reason we didn't get Yakuza, or Dragon Quest, nor do we have a Fatal Frame 5 announcement.

levian1245d ago (Edited 1245d ago )

I honestly don't even care if it comes to Wii U in North America. I've never liked fighting games anyways, so no loss for me. I'm sure not everyone feels the same though.

IMO, these style of fighting games are a waste of potential. First DBZ does this type of game EXCLUSIVELY which sucks, I'd love to see an RPG version with free roaming and a leveling system.

Naruto, which I don't really love but think it'd be cool to see some RPG games done from it. But, they choose to stick to the same thing as DBZ, which is a disappointment. Fans of that genre are already getting those types of games, while fans of the series who aren't fans of that genre are getting the stick.

Pokemon, which people have been wanting a console RPG of for ever, since before the N64. I love Pokemon games, but my god Game Freak. Reusing the same assets year after year, just with a slight graphics upgrade. Talk about money for nothing. I'll continue to buy them because it's all we're getting.

They had every Pokemon fan worldwide collectively holding their breath in anticipation for this announcement, only for people to collectively release it in a sigh of disappointment.

Concertoine1245d ago

That wasnt really my point, but NOA is very annoying.

I was saying they focused too much on trying to appeal to a country with a limited market for consoles. Especially since its clear huge games like MK8 and Hyrule Warriors have done little to shift hardware. Fatal Frame, Monster Hunter, etc. are all good games but they have niche appeal outside of Japan. I think they should fund a title that is popular to the hardcore in the west. Like AC or Resident Evil or something. They actually tried this with that Darth Maul game, but obviously thag fell through.

And on the E-shop too. The e-shop is 1000x times better than the NoA/E one. In Japan they can buy manga and watch anime streamed to the wiiu/3ds ontop of services like netflix, ect.

I know most don't care about Anime/Manga, but there is no other services besides Netflix and Hulu Plus. Shoot, even the PS3 gets crunchyroll, while Wiiu/3Ds don't.

Japanese fighters almost always come out in Japanese arcades before consoles. It's nothing new.

Chrono1245d ago

1. Many fighting games didn't get a console version.

2. Most Nintendo arcade games were not ported to console.

Big_Game_Hunters1245d ago (Edited 1245d ago )

@chrono but this one will. It's already trademarked in NA and Europe. Plus I don't think even Nintendo is ou of touch enough to not bring this to their struggling console.

AfterThought1245d ago

Does Japan not have the Wii U also? The whole catering to Japan part doesn't make much sense.

On top of it being made by Japanese developers and as everyone has pointed out numerous times, games like this always release in the arcade first and then consoles afterwards.

I can understand peoples frustrations with some of the problems occurring with the Wii U but this is unwarranted when they haven't said outright it isn't coming to the Wii U and that it will be arcades only.

If that happens rage all you want but until then how about giving it some time and just maybe something will pop up about this for the Wii U.

TekoIie1245d ago (Edited 1245d ago )

"Does Japan not have the Wii U also?"

Wii U owners are not limited to Japan...

"The whole catering to Japan part doesn't make much sense."

It cannot be that hard to understand that I was talking about them prioritizing the Japanese market over Wii U owners WORLDWIDE can it?

colonel1791246d ago

I don't get this game. How will other kind of pokemon fight?

I would have preferred a much improved Pokemon Stadium, where fights happen like in the TV show, where pokemon actually inflict damage and punch each other, etc.

Yehshuah1246d ago (Edited 1246d ago )

there won't be other pokemons aside from fighting types. it will have limited roster for those capable of hand to hand combat only.

thehobbyist1245d ago

Developer of the game has said it won't be only fighting types.

lizard812881245d ago

IIRC, The devs are saying they are listening to the fans for the cast too.

haha, man, if this was the 90's, think of JigglyPuff getting in, lol....She/He did get into smash, due to how popular that pokemon was.

Sheed1246d ago (Edited 1246d ago )

That happened already, but it got canceled due too it being to violent.

BlackWolf1245d ago (Edited 1245d ago )

It wasn't cancelled. That was just a trailer, and unfortunately, didn't look anything like the final game.

Summons751246d ago

Obviously but how long after being a Japan arcade exclusive? That's what pissed us fans off. You go out of your way to make an English trailer just to rub it in our faces that we are not going to be able to play it. It's Fatal Frame 4&5 again where you accouce it and aim the announcement at the places that you refuse to localize it too. Bad move.

lizard812881245d ago

The thing that sucks even more is, most people are speculating a summer release for the arcade version (2015) so a late 2015 to 2016 is when the Wiiu might see the game.

My kid would love this under the tree at christmas 2015 next to my zelda

Geekman1245d ago

How could you kidnap Zelda, wrap her up, and throw her under a tree!?

Gezmoyassine1245d ago

It's a given that this game will come to Wii U.I'm sure Nintendo knows that this game can sell Wii Us like Hotcakes.
