Sony's Done a Great Job with Indies, Says Former Nintendo Man

Push Square: "Dan Adelman knows a thing or two about indie games. The industry veteran previously spearheaded the launch of Microsoft’s wildly successful Xbox Live Arcade, before switching his attention to Nintendo’s digital push, where he secured a slew of top titles for the House of Mario’s machines, including World of Goo and the BIT.TRIP series. Now, having departed the Japanese organisation after almost a decade in his post, he’s opened up to Nintendo Life about PlayStation’s indie loving approach."

We'll that's good to hear. Sony is embracing the indie devs and I'm pretty sure it will drive the PS4 to success..

The PS4 is a success with or without the INDIES;)
Just take a look at your's salt

Since indies are essentially the replacement for the B-games (Huge AAA games with their enormous budgets killed off the smaller fries), I have a very hard time believing that.

Indies are very, very important right now. They're cheap to make, easy to promote, and frequently innovative. I think without any of them on your console, you're gonna have an extremely bleak release schedule. Sony's smart to cultivate and capitalize on that scene.

Isn't almost every PS4 indie just a Steam port? Don't get me wrong, many of them are great games but it seems every time I check the store they only have games I already played or bought on Steam. I did buy Transistor on the PS4 and Resogun "although I don't know if that counts since Sony was involved in that".

Xbox One situation is similar but instead of games being ported to Xbox they seem to launch on Xbox and then ported to Steam. The big one was Super Time Force but Sixty Second Shooter was also pretty great.

Anyhow, Steam seems to be the way to go for Indies overall. And should be the ones getting praise.

Aren't almost all your comments downplaying Sony?

I don't have a Steam account. My laptop is for my writing only; it won't be good enough for my school work, I'll wager. I don't play games on it, not that it would be capable of much, anyway.

Why complain about the indies also being on PC? Do you complain about nearly every XB1 game being either on PS4 or PC? I know for certain that you don't.

Why, then, the double standard? And why the hell are you never flagged for this obvious trolling?

incendy351426d ago

Well you should get one, it is free. Also I do call out Xbox for the same reason. I specifically said Steam is the indie king. This article is pertaining to Sony which is why I led my comment with them. Not only is my critique not a troll, it is very relevant. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean someone is trolling, it just means you might be a little insecure when it comes to the topic.

Let's not pretend that you're not a stealth troll.

"Anyhow, Steam seems to be the way to go for Indies overall. And should be the ones getting praise."

You can't deal with Sony getting praise for actively going out and making good relationships with indie developers can you? Steam somehow has to be a reason why Sony doesn't deserve the praise for making the effort that they do. Should I thank Gaben for my Vita and PS4 version of Hotline Miami?

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
Dreamfall Chapters
Titan Souls
The Witness
The Talos Principle
The Tomorrow Children
No Man's Sky
Dragon Fin Soup
Hotline Miami 2
Grim Fandango re-release

Just a small handful of games that are not Steam ports or not going to be.

Nice, more games the better;)

I think PS4 is winning because they built something hard to do. Something not even in the box:
