Hardcore Gamer: Rise of the Tomb Raider’s timed Xbox exclusivity brings up an age-old question: is it better or worse for a game to hit only one platform.
Whatever gets Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4. Right, men!?
You need to go on a diet Val
There is just something about exclusives that excite me, but I'm a fanboy. I admit that. If you're just a normal gamer, It means nothing to you, it just depends on how much you like the actual game regardless if it's exclusive or not.
I don't only buy either. They are both good.
The 'better' game is based on opinion. Multi-platform titles reach a wider audience and can have higher sales, but there are many exclusive titles that have won numerous awards. Which is better, who can say?
Those exclusives could probably have won more on more platforms.
I think exclusives are better cause developers only have to focus on one system and that means they can try 2 optimize and take full advantage of that system hardware.
Exclusives when they're a dedicated effort. One that uses the hardware to full extent, rather than something meant push a gimmick.
A good game is better. Just ask Haze or Too Human.
Neither, to be honest. Exclusives give you a reason to keep coming back to particular systems and provide games that are tailored for, and take the best advantage of, their unique hardware, and multiplatform titles are for when you want a game that you know you'll be able to experience across a wider range of console options, possibly with unique content per system. There is no better or worse; they both have their place in the industry, and seeing either one become less prominent than they are now would be a huge loss for the gaming community as a whole.
I'm less pissed off at MS and more at CD. They let themselves get bribed and then forgot about a lot of their fanbase and basically treated the majority of it like worthless trash.
I don't think that CD had a say on the matter. SE on the other hand...
That's true. I wish i could edit my comment but for some reason i cannot.
Both. We need multiplatform games as much as we need exclusives. 3rd party should always strive for multiplatform. That way everyone gets to enjoy it and there would be less console gorilla warfares on forums. Exclusives imo should always be a new IP either be helping out 3rd party devs through funding or an extra pair of hands in development. That or strengthening your own 1st party teams and let them try making a new IP instead of another sequel.
Maybe some day, one platform will be the future. How the rules are surrounding it, i can't say. Unfortunately, the majority isn't capable of even building themselves a machine.
All I buy for consoles are exclusives. For my PC I purchase multiplatform.
Exclusives tend to be overhyped just because they're exclusive. Even if it sucks a lot of fanboys would eat a turd if it means the other console doesn't get one over theirs
There are more amazing multiplatform games that amazing exclusives.
Exclusive. In Microsoft's case, ROTR can boost the Xbox One's profile if not sales.
Exclusives are better because the developer can focus on optimizing the game for one platform but multiplats are clearly better for their profits
