Game Idealist examines whether or not Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition is priced too high on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One as opposed to Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
i think its fine everyone always wants something to complain about
False. Blizzard likes to furnicates in the back its customers. This price tag is outrageous, just like the launch of this garbage of a game.
Well, they can price it as high (or as low) as they want, but as a consumer, I'll make my own judgement on how much each release is worth, how much I'm willing to pay for it, and so I simply vote with my wallet. If Diablo 3 seems too expensive for me right now, I'll just wait till it's cheaper sometime down the line, if I'm still interested in the game by then. I'm not someone who's 'into' Diablo, simply cause I've never played it and it doesn't really seem all that appealing to me. Maybe I would love it, maybe not. I simply don't know. Obviously, releasing it at 50-60 euro does very very little to convince me to go pick it up and give it a try, while at 30 euro I probably would have given it a chance, considering the positive comments I've read about it on fora and websites these days. So in that regard, being a bit of a non-mainstream genre, and being a port of a 2 year old game, it might have been 'wiser' to release it a bit cheaper. But like I said, they can price it whatever they want, and I'll make a judgement and I'll vote with my wallet.
I got the ps4 ultimate evil ed for $49.99 from best buy's website when I preordered it over a year ago. I can live with that cost.
How is it outrageous? I've never played the game before and I picked up the PS4 version today. I got the base game, and the expansion pack for $60. The expansion pack alone is 30ish, and I believe the normal game is now down to 30. So if anything, it's what you'd pay to play the PC version as well.
How is it outrageous? Your basically getting two games for the price of one. Man i still haven't fired my copy up, probably this weekend.
oh and i think your a sad little man who thinks people shouldn't have an opinion and just accept any greedy tactics by greedy companies. i wouldn't be surprised if you were a company plant.
I find ALL games in general priced to high period. I have not played Diablo III or reaper of souls so to me its a new game thus the $60.00 price tag.
Rofl it's only a friggin expansion pack with new skins and SOME new stuffs. You seem like an intelligent person, how can you defend such a bs marketing practice that forces you to pay even more for the same sheet?
I think you're misled. The expansion is a whole other chapter in story mode; which equals many hours of new gameplay, a new character (not just a new skin, a whole new character with all new attacks and everything), new items, enemies, game modes, legendary items... THere's more, but I think you get the point. Its not just some "new skins and stuff". Considering the PC expansion is still going for $30 in stores, I think this is a fair price for the full Diablo 3 game, plus the expansion. But I love Diablo and have been playing it since the original, so there you go.
the expansion is literally a new diablo game in term of contents , so you dunno what you are saying . The ps4 and xb1 customers its customers most likely dont have the original diablo 3 on ps3/360 ... wich was a nice port , but still gimped in comparison. The only thing that held me back are the servers being obviously separate from pc . And my friends fans of the game are on pc , so no dice , ill just get the pc expansion someday
The expansion is nowhere close to a full game in terms of content. It is 1 full act, 1 character class, a few minor bits and pieces (new skills and items), and some low-budget modes that let you recycle that same content to your heart's content. It's a decent enough expansion, but it is not close to a full game in it's own right. And more direct to the topic, if you ignore the fact that all console games are over-priced in general then D3 is relatively OK. That £59.99 gets you everything. There are no micro-transactions, no DLC, no tail you can keep investing in. £59.99 all-in. It is too expensive, but only in the same way that all console retail game prices are too expensive.
Funny you say this because games are cheaper than they have ever been in the business. I remember buying banjo Kazooie for 70 bucks when it launched on the N64. People these days act so self entitled it's ridiculous.
You sure about that? Ubisoft and EA are charging £50/$83 for all their new AAA games now on PC. For UK/EU they've never been more expensive. I don't buy them at that price but that's what they sell them for on steam, origin and ubisoft store.
There should be an upgrade price on current gen as well I will admit. If you already have D3 there should be a way to get the game for $40 on current gen and not just last gen. That being said, the amount of playtime you will get for $60 is still way above and beyond 90% of games.
I didn't have a problem buying it for $60. I never played it in my life, and I'm sure there's additional added content and patches from the previous edition.
Its got good reviews the game. So the pricing might not be that bad. Worst games have released at the same price.
I don't like some of the things they've done so I'll wait and get this on sale.
£60 on the xbox store is BS.Asda UK £44.Who you gonna chose.Digital download is NOT the future. It sucks big time.Whoever makes these prices up should be strung up.
Thats the argument i've always tried to make. Prices for games on xbox live and psn are expensive and many times full price for a game that isn't new. You can almost always guarantee to find a game cheaper in a store than in the online console stores.
Whoa there. That doesn't mean digital download is not the future. That just means Microsoft's digital store isn't very competitive. The future is still digital, and the platform holders are going to have to adapt to that if they want to remain relevant. Steam is still the prominent example. EA Access is a step towards a viable alternative.
I must admit that I was more than a little taken aback at the high price of $64.99. Especially when the Xbox 360 version is 44.99. I love Diablo 3 and have played the hell out of it on my PC but I'm going to wait for the price to drop on Xbox.
Does Diablo 3 have a secret cow level? Because if it does I'll buy it now =p
Instead of the Cow Level it has a My Little Pony / Care Bears parody level. The whole leve is bright and sunny with rainbows all over the place, and all the enemies look like My Little Ponies and Care Bears. Its quite fun killing them as the die in massive heaps of blood and gore. I'm not even making this up. Look it up. Its hysterical.
Saw the price and I was turned off to it. I'd rather just wait for destiny. It's a good game though.
I've purchased the game at launch on PC, and then on the PS3. No, there is no cow level. There is an f'd up rainbow level. I don't want to pay 60 bucks for this!
You're not the target market.
It has hundreds of hours of content. 1080p/60fps. Expansion included. New modes, Nemesis system, reworked controls that work wonderfully. Yes, I think it's a fair price. I pre-ordered it, pre-downloaded it, played for a few hours today and love it so far. I only played it on PC previously, and I think it's a lot better on PS4.
Went to buy it today. Store had the ps3 version 40€, Nice. Ps4 version 70€! F That for a game of soldiers. So i left it there. I think its way too high. Last of us 45€ Tomb raider was 45€ Metro Redux will be 45€. I think theres a little nickle and diming going on there now to be fair.
It's a new game to me
Anyone play the ps3 version here know if it's a big difference in gfx visuals and worth purchasing. YouTube probably isn't the best way for me to view it lol
Worth every cent.
If most people think that is the case it will drop in price rather quickly but I doubt it.
It seems to me they passed the costs of porting to next gen onto the next gen buyers, instead of PS3/360 gamers. Makes sense to me.
But porting to PS4 was almost certainly easier and cheaper than porting to PS3. I doubt the last-gen version is selling adequate numbers to fit your explanation. They're just recognising that early adopters are a different audience that they can probably gouge for more money. And they're probably right.
There was still more work to be done porting it to a system it had never been on before. Over the long haul, yeah, porting to PS3 was probably more difficult, but it's not like PS3 owners didn't already pay $60 when the game first dropped, and now Blizzard's getting additional revenue from them on this release. I'm an early adopter, and I passed on the PS3 Diablo because I knew it would be coming to PS4. $60 I didn't spend then is $60 I'm spending now, with additional content that is worth about $30 alone.
Yes, next question.
I think Blizzard is just being fair to people who bought Diablo III on either PC or last gen consoles on day one and paid full price on those platforms. Diablo III on PS3 and 360 was a full priced game ($59.99)... Because Diablo III Ultimate Evil is the same game plus an expansion they put it at $39.99 to be fair to people who bought the first one at $59.99 on last gen consoles. Diablo III had not yet shipped on next gen consoles so gamers have to pay full price. They are being consistent, and fair to gamers who supported them. Nothing wrong with that.
Except you know.... those of us who bought the ps3 version and then got a ps4
Like I said they are being consistent. When you buy the game on a different platform it costs full price... PC, PS3, PS4, 360, X1. I bought it first on PC and then paid full price to play it on 360... I like that the game has the same features on all platforms, they don't nickel and dime DLC, no exclusivity, and you don't have to participate in additional microtransactions. The only way they get revenue is from new game and game expansion sales. Gamers should support their model because it is fair and consistent.
For PC it was $100 for this if you bought both the base game and expansion day one, so I don't think paying $60 for both is anything to complaint about.
I thought it was. Holding off on buying it for now
Being that I bought this game full price at launch, I was shocked we I heard that they wanted new game price again. To expensive for my blood just for an expansion.
Yes, it is. Especially since the game describes the original game content as bonus material . I bought this on the xbox 360 but still went ahead and payed full price for the ps4 version. Cause I really want to play more diablo without having to pull out my x360 every time . Subtle improvements, not convinced full price is warranted.
