It may be a while before US users get Xbox One's upcoming TV streaming to SmartGlass feature

Prior to its Gamescom press conference Tuesday, Microsoft announced several new features for Xbox One, including the ability to stream live TV to phones, tablets and computers via the SmartGlass app. Unfortunately for U.S. users, when that capability arrives for them is up to TV service providers.

I'm hoping they make a Xbox One Digital TV Tuner for the US.

It's looks to be a really awesome feature... It would be great to have for football season, for those moments you really gotta go, but don't want to miss the action.

Looks like the content providers could be the hold up... As usual, they want to block progress at all costs.

I've had this feature for a few years now via my setup box, but I've rarely ever used it. It sounded like a good idea but I'd rather just watch on the big TVs instead of some tiny little screen.

Right, but this feature would , theoretically, extend this functionality to all set top boxes, regardless of provider, greatly increasing the likelihood that those who WANT to use it would have access to it.

Technically yes, but as stated in the article it's up to the cable provider and the broadcaster as to whether to allow their channel or program to be rebroadcast in this manner.

Even though my box can do it now, certain channels and programs are not allowed to be rebroadcast.

I don't see how it matters to them..

It can't circumvent commercials or even their interface really.. I don't see how its any of their business if my input can be duplicated on another screen.. Because it isn't true streaming over the net.. You need to be on your xboxs network so its for around the house (as I understand it)

But how I see it obviously isn't how it is.. Crtc (Canada's fcc) is notorious for being a pain in the ass so hopefully they don't drag this out.

Its one more incentive and benefit for people to keep their cable at all..

They just want an opportunity to monetize stuff like this, even though it takes no effort their part.

The Tuner launches in oct

Good luck with that. The legality of doing this is pretty tough thanks to television companies.
