Nine months have passed since launch of Xbox One but it seems like controversial "Parity Clause" ghost continues to haunt Microsoft and indie developers, whereas on the other side, Sony are going that extra mile and helping indie developers bring their games first on Playstation 4

Sony is doing fine on delivering games, but there are a lot of things they could do to improve the PS4. I hope they are working on them, but it's been 9 months since no music file support, no DLNA, no custom music in-game except through their own service, no UI enhancements, etc. All of these impact how we use their device and many impact how we game.

What this proves is that the console manufacturers can't win. While the features you mention are welcome, we know that they are on the way at some point. Many people tried to label the PS4 as the console with no games (which was very inacurate to say the least). Now it has more games available and far more games on the way (compared to competitors). Again, the features of a console are welcome, but maybe the games for our gaming consoles should have a moment to shine before we complain about something new.

Sony doesn't need to win anything for me. I already own a PS4.

As a customer, I want more and better out of Sony and will continue to share my opinion on what that is. That does not mean that I hate the device or think Sony is not providing for me quality goods/services.

The Outlast dev said it was never even discussed. They just spoke to MS about releasing the game and there were no issues.

I don't think it has been formally dropped, but I think MS know it not in their best interest to try and enforce it at the moment.

Until there is an official withdrawal of the Parity Clause, Indie developers will be very wary of entering into any agreements with Microsoft. 'Hoping' MS will waver the clause for your particular game doesn't instil confidence.

And now that the PS4 has an install base of over 10 million (twice that of MS), it's even less likely they'd want to take that risk. Add to that the financial benefits of creating a game for one console only and it's becoming ever more likely MS will drop the Parity Clause.

I'm afraid it will be too late though. The damage is already done.

A brilliant selection of little indies there for ID@Xbox. Cuphead looks fantastic.

PS4 looks like it's getting the more ambitious, large scale indie games though in comparison, like RiME, SOMA, WiLD, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, No Man's Sky, Dreamfall Chapters, The Witness, ABZU, Loadout, The Talos Principle, H-Hour: World's Elite and Shadow of the Beast.

It's also to be noted that many of those games in the trailer are also coming to PS4.

It is highly likely that if he asks the right people he'll get the "okay", specially if the game turns out to be good. The likes of Contrast and Outlast got round it easily enough anyway.

Look, the fact that he has to "talk to the right people" so as not to have ID@XBOX forced on him is itself a problem and a part of the overall problem that ID@XBOX is. This isn't your glib interpretation of "hurr durr, he has to talk to someone just to get the game on the console anyway."

This is "I don't want to be restricted by ID@XBOX so I'm not going to give them a chance to force it on me."

I can't believe you would rather developers should have to go through hoops to get their games on the console rather than get rid of what most of them have a problem with in the first place.

I didn't over-simplify anything. There are formal channels to apply to self publish on xbox one. He has not applied.

That doesn't mean there is a problem. As per the outlast dev, they just applied and got accepted. Nobody mentioned any parity policy and nothing sinister was forced on them.

That's an oversimplification.

And ID@XBOX's very existence IS the problem. How is that so hard for you to understand? He shouldn't have to hope that it won't be forced on him. Outlast got lucky, MS didn't think it needed to enforce the policy on those devs, but you can't assume that what works for one will work for everyone and this guy shows that there are devs out there unwilling to even entertain the possibility of it.

So long as ID@XBOX exists it will remain a problem. No one should have to "talk" to anyone to prevent its enforcement, it simply shouldn't exist.

Fairness requires context. "Tomb Raider" WAS multiplatform. Microsoft paid to make it exclusive for a time. "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" is a brand new intellectual property. Sony is not preventing indie games from coming to the Xbox One, Microsoft is...with their clauses and poor perception many indie devs have of them. The indie games that are actually exclusive to Sony platforms tend to be co developed with Sony studios.

There is no clause preventing Tomb Raider from releasing on Sony platforms. Microsoft is not co developing Tomb Raider. They merely paid the publisher to prevent Sony from getting the game for a duration. If you can't comprehend the differences between the scenarios (different means to the same end), then perhaps you should educate yourself better so that you do not get unnecessarily bothered, and erroneously call people hypocrites.

You see, Sony helps Indie devs bring their creations to life on PS4...investing in creativity and new IPs. Yes, a lot of these Indies are from PC now...but as time goes by, more and more new ambitious ideas will come from these great studios, building games from ground up on PS4!

Now Microsoft on the other hand, with all that money...rather than invest in new IPs and creativity, they continue to play the role of a hip-hop artist...slinging money around the gaming community like they are in a strip club...buying up all the cristal (3rd party franchises)! Keep it up Microsoft, Sony's library is already over a 100 tiltes and counting. Their portfolio of games will have no equal at this rate! The variety, quality...best place to play games is on PlayStation!

I think the parity clause is awesome....Keep it MS... I have a PS4 & Wii-U, so it doesn't affect me in the slightest... But I think it is a great thing, & why should MS keep backtracking on there own ideas & policies? Nope, keep this, it's just another great decision by MS, that proves they are all about the gamers...

The more stuff the PS4 has over XBOne, the better for me, the better for PS4 sales, which means more & more indie & AAA making big developers will be forced to stop all this MS timed exclusive BS, as they will start to feel the pinch, as some of the smaller & new AAA developers, along with the independents, will start overthrowing there reign... Destiny will be the start of the torch being handed over, when it releases, as I believe it will affect the COD series in a significant way. I know I will get disagrees from MS fanboys & fans alike, but as a PS4 & Wii-U owner, I just want the creator of this insipid tactic, of timed exclusive titles & content, to suffer a bit, & possibly learn that this is not the right way to go about exclusitivity... Regarding Ms parity clause it's applying only if you subscribe to the ID@XBOX program.

Now I never understand the fuzz about that but let me explain something with simple example.

Your are Wallmart inc and you buy products to sale in your stores.
You have a program to help new producers create goods and new products.
In your deal you FREELY provide the tools and space to manufacture the goods.
Now is it normal to expect that the goods should at least be available at Wallmart?

If game is releasing at the same time on other platforms, the content needs to be the same. When game releases later than on other platforms, there has to be additional extra content over original release. But this works both ways. Sony has the same.

If the game is mediocre and they want microsoft to bankroll the dev kits and such then they are going to have a problem with the parity clause. If its good then microsoft won't bother about the parity clause, if its mediocre then they would probably have to pay for the dev kits themselves to get around the clause.
