Konami has taken a step back from its "these things happen" comment on broken street dates, criticizing Wal-Mart for selling Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots early, even warning that Sony can withhold shipments of the game's bundle.
I don't shop at Walmart and anyone who simply can't wait for the game to come out on it's intended release date needs to find a supplemental hobbie and experience some seperation anxiety for ahwile. Games aren't that important. Like, if I wanted a kidney and was going to die and the only day I could get one was on like the 12th of the month but someone came to me and said I'll give you this kidney early. Yeah, I'd take it. It's a kidney afterall and I need it. A game, no. Just no. I'll wait.
Hey they are a big corporation. Forgive them for not understanding the importance of the title with you week advertising. No metal gear mountain dew = lame lol
it shows that good... no i mean GREAT games can get great sales without advertising. The only thing advertising does is increase hype which increases review scores. Exhibit A and B are GTA4 and Halo 3. "good" games at best but with great reviews! People just keep drinking the coolade
thats F**ked up wallies world! shame on you!
The problem is nobody will do anything to Walmart. I don't buy anything there but a lot of people do. Wal-mart would probably threaten Sony they won't sell their products if Sony holds anything back from them. So nothing to see here boys and girls.
Tisk, Tisk, Tisk, it just had to be Wal-mart. To be honest, I had no idea that stores got items so early in advance. Maybe if stores got their items a 2-3 days before release instead of an entire week in advance, things like this wouldn't happen. Whenever you've got an item that's coming out a week later just sitting in the back, it can be pretty tempting to just let 1 or 2 items slip through the cracks in hopes to go unnoticed, but Wal-mart should have stuck to their written agreement. Whenever someone gets an item early, they most likely will just sell it on Ebay for a higher price for a profit, so it's not like stores can get away with it because with the power of the Internet and Media, you can't hide or get away with sh*t anymore.
Maybe it's revenge for making the LE version Gamestop Exclusive.
they won't withhold shipments from Wal-mart. They are way to big of a retailer and both Konami and Sony would miss out on too many sales.
Wal-mart will ruin America.
already has... at least small town America. As if we needed more help in that area...
I saw MGS4 on the shelves in Target today also, another U.S. retailer.
End of story..they actually expected this game not to be leaked or street date broken. And that is more than enough reason I'm not upset with Walmart. As bad as Walmart is, i feel Konami deserved this slap in the face. LIKE SERIOUSLY, you really exepect one of the most hype'd games in history to not break street dates, when the demand was clearly seen by Amazon's exmaple (in less than 10 min all pre-orders were bought and the site was raped and it crashed because of all the traffic), so for you to hop on your high horse and claim "MGS4 is leak proof" as one of the articles i've read stated, is just sheer stupidity. Should have just stuck with the "thing happen" moto.
LIKE SERIOUSLY: - No, they never expected it not to happen, but that doesn't mean it SHOULD happen. - Konami is not stupid; they entered into a written agreement with another company, and Wal-Mart could not hold up their end of the agreement. That's pretty damn black and white to me. - Why the hell does Konami deserve a slap on the wrist? They did nothing wrong. Wal-Mart did the wrongdoing. Konami made a game, and expected for their agreement to be upheld, and it was not. What did Konami do wrong? Nothing. Your argument is completely without reason. Please, next time you think about posting, have more evidence than MGS4 being "one of the most hype'd games in history" and therefore its street date should automatically be broken, because of its hype and popularity. You're not right just because you say so.
quit making your little girl tantrums, you guys make me nausiated.
I figured it would have been Toys R Us to break Street Date, but I guess Wal Mart had to one up them.
Namely, employees that don't work in the videogames/electronics section. If you don't follow games, who is to say you know anything about the release date? While this isn't an excuse for early sale of MGS4, it is hard to place the blame on Walmart, or even the "offending" employees. I would go so far as to say its the gamers fault. I guarantee the game wasn't on display and some deceitful words were used to obtain it. Purchased MGS4 at Meijer an hour ago:-)If you've never heard of the store your forgiven...its a Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky chain similar to Walmart...but better in every way.
This is the first time, I ever seen this kind of things happen.
They just wanted Streetz Credentualz! Anyways $hit Happen people need to get over that hump! This happens with Movies as well & Wall-Mart isn't going anywhere sorry Konami!
Man AM I Pissed.. 6 walmarts and none of the employes in the electronics department knew what a ps3 was. Wasted gas, time and just because I wanted the 100 dollar gift card... What a waiste...
By the time I heard about it and got there, they were all sold out. Some 300lb middle-aged balding douchebag bought the last 5...Yes, I said 5! >:(...I overheard him talking about selling them at double the price on Ebay. There was so many pissed off faces in the crowd, it was crazy! All the guys looked like they were about to snap...lol The smug bastid waltzed on by with his cart full of MGS4 bundles, with that satisfied look of "PWNT" on his face. Wal-mart won't have any more in stock for like a week or something.
Hey....... I was at WalMart last night trying to find a copy no luck....24mins....
Why would they withold shipment, when the consumer is expecting the item to arrive at the store on launch day. Basically, what happens is Konami is punishing the consumer. What they could do is withold future products, but not advertised products consumers are expecting. This is typical Konami arrogance. Sony used to have this arrogance once.... Yes, some of you die hard fans will disagree with me. Although, I'm a die hard fan as well, but will look at a company with a critical eye to make sure they are treating me fairly.
Quit sucking on the Wal-Mart teet and go to another store, if you're afraid of Konami's "arrogance." If anything, they've earned their right to be arrogant. They're making this masterpiece and if they ask for it to be held until its street date, that's barely an issue since it's the law to begin with... They're not going to withhold the product from you, just the one chain of stores if anything... so sorry you've been hurt, though. Have a tissue.
It is about false marketing, not the fact that I can run down the street and get it at a different store. This is a punishment on the consumer, not the retailer. How bad do you think a Walmart store will get their profit hurt if they do not receive 25-50 or even a hundred consoles? To begin with consoles are low margin product. It is in Konami's right to punish a retailer, but should do so without affecting the consumer i.e. their own customers. However, I would be equally upset if I arrive at the store only to find out that the product advertised was sold out a week earlier by Walmart. Nobody "earns" the right to become arrogant, it is something you are or become. That is why they call it arrogant!
oh no! walmart is no good. they broke the street date for the ps3 40gb too.
