It’s no secret that Dragon Quest is huge in Japan. Ever since the game was first released it’s taken hold of the Japanese public and hasn’t let go. When the third installment of this legendary franchise was released, there were almost 300 arrests for truancy. After that game, the Japanese government asked Enix to release future games on the weekends only. But what I found shocking happened a few years later. Dragon Quest 7 is one of the biggest games in the franchise. It was the best selling games for the Ps1 console that year in Japan. On the day it was released, an eleven year old boy was returning home after purchasing the game. Two men, both in their twenties, beat the boy so bad he needed to be hospitalized.
