WC Writes: How Not To End A Story, by 21st Century Gaming.
Number 1 worst ending for me in recent memory was Rage. That was an awful ending. The game pretty much just stops and credits, it was almost like they didn't know how to end it or ran out of time to develope it.
Mine would be Kane and Lynch 2. If you beat it, you know what I'm talking about Or Mgs 5 ground zeros. The combination of its length and abrupt ending was a giant middle finger, even though it's not a full game
The K&L2 ending music, just O_O. It was clearly set up for a direct sequel, and even though the game apparently sold quite well, we haven't heard any murmurings about a sequel since then. I love the K&L lore and such, but I won't pretend those games didn't suffer from quite glaring gameplay and design issues at times.
Rage ending was basically a sudden credits in the middle of shooting bad guys.
Killzone 3. The general story/storytelling of Killzone 3 was pretty good as it introduce a mature political and survival sub plot which really fleshed out the story. But the ending felt rushed. It did feel like they ran out of time and made a quick decision in how to end it. The ending also made future Killzone titles a little less believable
All the Killzones, from start to finish. But yeah 3 was the worst.
Well Killzone 1 and 2 were okay. They just didn't have a strong emphasis on story which is why I wouldn't call them nor their endings offensively bad. Killzone 4 was an illogical mess from start to finish. In the context of the rest of the game the ending wasn't offensively bad. It fitted well within the illogical story
killzone story is piss poor.
I would read this but I'm not clicking through 10 pages full of ads.
10- Borderlands 09- Rage 08- Darksiders 2 07- God Of War 2 06- Splatterhouse 05- Dark Souls 2 04- Killzone 3 03- Mass Effect 3 02- Watch Dogs 01- Dragon's Dogma You are welcome.
Thanks Blacktric. Number 1 should have definitely been Rage. I thought the game glitched until I realized that was the end lol Dragons Dogma as number 1 is a joke. That was a pretty solid ending to me. Way better than most games nowadays anyway. If you decide to put God of War 2 on here, how can you NOT put Halo 2? One cliffhanger is offensive but another isn't? I thought GOW2 ending like that was epic, and they delivered on it with part 3.
God Of War 2 is n°7? Really? I mean, sure. I was kinda pissed when I saw it and realised it was a cliffhanger, but that's just because I was so hyped for that epic set-up and they delivered with GOW3! Seriously, GOW2 should not be on there
Thanks, was just about to post asking for a list. Agree with GoW II being out of place. It was a bit annoying to have a blatant cliffhanger like that, but I was instantly pumped for 3, and the intro for 3 was far beyond anything I imagined possible.
The listed "ending" for Dragon's Dogma isn't the end. The ending comes after you defeat the Seneschal, not the dragon Grigori. And to think that this troglodyte still has a job... Pathetic.
Also from the article : "Dragon's Dogma is insultingly easy"... LOLWUT? That guy never explored the crater. Meaning that guy never finished the game, not even once. That made the author lose every point left on his gamer card. Seriously, what a load of bull...
Oh snap, I completely forgot about Fable, but I'd put Fable 3 in the list instead of Fable 2. I remember after I beat Fable 3 all my villagers were just lying dead in the streets and I just sat there thinking, " Well, what the hell do I do now."
GDI, whatculture! Stop it!
That site needs banning.
You've got to be kidding, GoW 2 ending is awesome, it's on my top 10 endings of the generation. Dark Souls 2 ending was lacking imho, often I was wondering what was the purpose of everything I was doing, I kinda understand the story and the reasons for some things, but not my own goal, since you never do anything related to the reason you are in Drangleic. And about ME3 ending, If you invested hundreds of hours to get your perfect ending then yes, it is a disappointment, but otherwise it's an ok ending.
The first ME3 ending disappointed the hell out of me. To just completely shrug off all the varying story line branchings and choices, for a stupid conversation and a deus ex machina...it was just deflating. Haven't played through the story since the rework though.
Demon Soul´s had a really crappy ending definitly disapointg after going trough many hazards. Since the previous gen started there were many crappy endings in games unfornetly even in the really good ones like Bioshock and Deus Ex HR had piss poor endings.
I know GOW2 ending on a cliffhanger was annoying, but it made GOWIII even more epic with the opening imo. Kind agree with Dark Souls II, Nashandra is just underwhelming, Dark Lurker should have been the final boss and they should have given the same option as in DS1 become the next Dark Lord or burn yourself in the flame.
Gears of War 2's ending was perfect. Gears of War 3's ending was a Satanic diarrhea worship, we shall not speak of it here. Dark Souls 2 should be number 1. Because it doesn't even have an ending. You're just playing the game and then, all of a sudden, you're fighting the final boss. You've beaten the boss? Now sit in the chair. The End
God of War 3 had a crap ending, though i don't blame Kratos... If i had to put up with Padora i would've done the same.
Well did you really expect it to have a happy ending? Haha
List fails for lack of Fable any of them. 2 is bad. 3 is terrible. Can't even remember the first one.
I just beat Dragon Age and although not disappointed so much in the ending itself, I was very disappointed you couldn't go anywhere except DLC locations after beating it, making it so you can't reach the level cap if you hadn't already done so.
Rage and Killzone for me were the ones I'm bitter about.
IMO Fallout 3 had a terrible ending, it was a good thing DLC fixed it. DkS2 did not have a great ending but it is far from as bad as most. It could have been better especially the final boss fight but overall it was sort of satisfying. One of the games that should be on the list is Deus Ex Human Revolution
