The Last of Us: How Will Naughty Dog's Classic Be Remembered?

Few games attain classic status easily, but Naughty Dog's The Last of Us did so instantly last summer when it was released to astronomically high praise and gripped the gaming world at a time that traditionally doesn't see many games released.

One year later and the former PlayStation 3-exclusive has been released again, this time spruced up for the PlayStation 4 and with all its DLC included within. Many people – myself included – even opted to buy it a second time for reasons not quite within the realms of logical thought.

Undoubtedly The Last of Us has been a phenomena, and an assured classic that will be fondly remembered in the years to come, but why? And for what will it be remembered most?

Why o why1506d ago

One of tge top contenders, if not thee 'game of the generation'

Naughty Dog definitely left their stamp on last gen as did over devs to be fair. Tlou was a perfect curtain call.

Bromance FTW

It's an all-in-one package, as close to a perfect game in the console ecosystem, that's how it will be remembered.

Canary-00831506d ago

Honestly I've forgotten most of it already. Sure, it was very cinematic, but the gameplay was anything but memorable.

It should be remembered simply as a quintessential example of the whole "set piece game" trend popularized on Sony's platform.

Or as one of the countless symptoms of Sony becoming increasingly anti consumer as they continue to try try and sell people slightly different versions of the same game.

i lol'd so bad that i'm lol'ing at my lol

1) TLOU actually had pretty intense, awesome gameplay
2) TLOU was NOT a set piece heavy game like Uncharted or GoW, so I don't know where you got that
3) TLOU's story is VERY memorable, you must be like Dory from Finding Nemo.

All in all, did you even play it?

Kiddcarter1506d ago

Hey canary forget the haters, I agree with everything you said, I would much rather play a fps, third person shooter, or rts with space marines and bromances any day of the week, especially if that game is in a non sony system!!!!!!!

Ok now back to reality, tlou is great and will be remembered as one of the best games ever, the game blends storytelling and character and gameplay better than almost every game before it, only game from last gen that even competes with tlou is the first bioshock.

IMO Tlou, bioshock, mario bros 3, zelda o.o.t, ff7, metal gear solid, star wars knights of the old republic, peace walker, gta san andreas, and ninja garden black are games that anyone who calls them self a gamer should have played or plan to play in their lifetime.

As a great game among many great games. But it's no Pac-Man or Super Mario Bros. as far as changing gaming is concerned.

HeWhoWalks1506d ago

And it doesn't have to be.

OT: It will be remembered as one of the decade's most memorable and moving experiences, changing how we view cinematic games and how they're approached!

TheWatercooler1506d ago

How will it be remembered?

As one of the greatest games ever made!
