Blizzard Decided About Future Support For Diablo 3 on Consoles. Confirms PS4 Version Will Be Updated

GotGame: John Hight, Production Director at Blizzard Entertainment, has confirmed that the PS4 version of Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition will be supported with patches after release, similar to the PC version.

It was also confirmed that the Xbox One version of Diablo 3 will be kept up to date with patches.

Nice, and no mention of Xbox One patch in the future... LOL.

I believe MS charges developers for patches on their platform (at least they did on 360 so since Blizzard didn't mention X1 I guess its still that way). I was planning on getting PS4 version anyways but good to hear this news.

ZodTheRipper1350d ago

I don't think it's the fact that MS is charging for patches... don't forget that it's coming out for PS3 and X360 as well. They would most probably support the X1 more if it was outselling the PS4.
I could imagine
a.) this being a marketing deal with Sony, kinda like with Destiny
b.) they are focussing on PS4 because they are expecting the biggest player base there
c.) it's so easy to work on PS4 that the extra work is not a big deal

Whatever it is, it's a big deal if true. Longterm support is an important point for a game like Diablo and I'd be pretty pissed if my platform wouldn't be supported by Blizzard.

Corpser1350d ago

Sony also charges developers for patches, although they may be waived for some developers , there may be a similar deal here that waive fees for Blizzard.

Jadenkorr0211350d ago

Corpser, they stopped charging for patches with the launch of the PS4.

Bigpappy1350d ago (Edited 1350d ago )

Sony or M$ no longer charge to patch. Both did.

They have a special deal to promote the game on PlayStation. Let's see if they have a faulty game on X1 and don't patch it. I seriously doubt that will happen. That would set a new precedent and could easily cause them to be sued. They are just pandering because of the deal in hopes Sony offers some more in the future, but X1 version will be patched also. It just may not get all the content as early as PS4 version.

I love how some posters on this site truly believe the Xbox One is doing so horrible that no developer will support it.

That is just so far off in the insane realm that it's laughable to read.

And it's especially funny when an article comes out minutes later stating that the X1 version will be up to date just like the PS4 and PC.

I hope not. All versions of the game deserve patches in my opinion.

Kribwalker1350d ago

Maybe no mention on X1 because they were interviewed on the playstation it a hunch

gamer78041350d ago

just fyi its confirmed for Xbox One also, basically the next gen consoles.

This comment about future support was really about adding new content and features when the pc versions gets them patched. Blizzard will patch bugs i believe for xbone but it won't get the patches that add content and it'll miss some DLC maybe. PS4 will get patched right with PC shortly following it. I don't think patches is part of some marketing deal though.

@All above - It's confirmed that the XB1 will receive these updates. So many wrong assumptions without any real info. Whats wrong with people on this site.

How will I find time for any other games with this game coming out soon and Destiny later in the year?!

nunley331350d ago

I had fun in the beta but it'll be hard to find time for that with FFXIV and many other games coming this holiday and with my ever expanding backlog and plus games. I may still get it later

Cryptcuzz1349d ago

The choice is all there my friend. As more and more games are released, my backlog of games I want to play is getting larger and larger. Hard to find time for too many different games at a time with work, friends and family taking up a lot of my time as well.

I just found out how great the PS Vita is (thought I'd share my experience) when remote playing with the PS4 last night. I haven't tried it over the internet, but when connecting via private network (directly with the PS4) I was amazed at how clear and smooth everything was. It is basically a 1:1 response time and in picture quality.

The button layout for L2, R2, L3 and R3 is brilliantly implemented on each corner of the screen, with the touch pad mapped to the middle of the touchscreen. It made playing PS4 games surprisingly enjoyable, with zero lag and zero grainy image quality liked I found on remote playing with the PS3.

Highly recommend that to everyone that has both a PS4 and a Vita.

i dont see how this was ever an issue considering how often mmo's get patched. ex. ffxiv
