InFamous: Second Son to Sunset Overdrive Comparison “Flattering,” Says Insomniac

GR: InFamous: Second Son, the PlayStation 4 exclusive from Sucker Punch Productions that launched earlier this year, is quite similar to Insomniac Games' Sunset Overdrive, which is also an open-world action platformer, only exclusive for Xbox One instead.

GameRevolution asked Insomniac what the studio thought of the inescapable comparisons between the two, and the notion that Sunset Overdrive is essentially an InFamous: Second Son equivalent for Xbox gamers.

I do see the similarities, but inFamous: Second Son has a more "cinematic" vibe too it while Sunset Overdrive's vibe is "zany".

acharlez1352d ago

A game can't be both zany and cinematic?

KwietStorm1352d ago

What's the point of asking that? He's making a comparison.

Neonridr1352d ago

let's just say one is a little more "serious" while the other is a little more "Serious Sam"

Charybdis1352d ago (Edited 1352d ago )

I do see the comparison with the main character of infamous and the character used to advertise sunset overdrive with, with both of them having a punk/hippie vibe and attitude.
But I do agree with Murray saying : "that even though the studio is flattered by the comparison, the two titles are very different games"

Magicite1352d ago

SO is more like a nonsense game in a good way.

Boody-Bandit1352d ago (Edited 1352d ago )

I don't see the similarities at all. Even the protagonist are very different. SSO is an over the top Jet Set Radio / Ratchet & Clank style arcade game riding on rails, grinding on walls, using nearly anything in the city to use for travel while using exaggerated weaponry (which Insomniac is known for) to defeat your enemy.

Infamous:SS is an open world game that is a more serious in story and scope. The main character uses super hero type, almost x-men esque, abilities that grow stronger during the course of the game. The combat in ISS usually takes place while the character is grounded and dashing backing and forth using both abilities and hand to hand combat.

These games could not be more different in their approach. I would never compare the 2. If anything SSO reminds me of R&C. That's the 1st thing that came to mind when I saw them.

I'm just glad they didn't compare the graphics. That would've been silly and it would've turned into an over 1000 degree article in a matter of an hour.

LAWSON721352d ago

"Even the protagonist are very different"

I sure hope so it is a custom character

Boody-Bandit1352d ago (Edited 1352d ago )

"I sure hope so it is a custom character"

The appearance is custom. We wont be able to create our own dialogue. Which reinforces my point of how different they will be. If SSO has dialogue, which I can't see it not having, it will probably match the gameplay and be over the top quirky, energy driven smart ass, take nothing serious persona.

Blaze9291352d ago (Edited 1352d ago )

it honestly seems like the only ones comparing this game to inFAMOUS are Sony fans themselves. Xbox fans obviously don't have the chance to play inFAMOUS to even compare it.

The two games look nothing a like imo.

EDIT: @UnwanteDreams yeah, tons of them this early in the generation. *sarcasm*

UnwanteDreams1352d ago

I guess multiconsole ownership is imaginary.

rdgneoz31352d ago

Nope, Sony fans would have noticed the similarities to Ratchet and Clank. Like the crazy weapons or the grinding on rails. And seeing as R&C and SSO are made by the same dev, it'd wouldn't be hard to see the influence.

FanboyKilla1352d ago

''here they cooooooooooommme'' my boi steezy wonder could see this one coming. lol if i was a sony fan, i wouldnt want them compared. wow that sunset though!!

A few of the mechanics feel like inFamous, but more 1 and 2 than Second Son.

Honestly, it felt like a slower Saints Row IV to me...which is a good thing. That over the top craziness is so much fun!

Also, the multi-player felt like Gotham City Imposters meets Resistance 2. Brilliant.

equal_youth1352d ago

do you had the chance to play sunset overdrive? would love to hear some more about this game.

S2Killinit1352d ago (Edited 1352d ago )

i wonder if their next game will be on PS4

youndamie1352d ago

Next game is a reboot of Ratchet and Clank PS4 Exclusive.

equal_youth1352d ago

are they redeveloping the original ratchet and clank for ps4?

youndamie1352d ago

It's a reimagining of the first that will tie into the movie, both release next year.

equal_youth1352d ago

if insomniac needs the money they may stay ms exclusive for this generation. just like the last time with sony. i think fuse didn't go well for them.
insomniac is a great developer and should just stick around. if exclusive to ms or sony it just don't matter.

Hellsvacancy1352d ago

They should've gone back and made a proper Spyro game already DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell i'll be happy with a HD remaster

GearSkiN1352d ago (Edited 1352d ago )

I don't think so, sunset holds its own, almost like dead rising to me, but better, a lot more crazy things you can do than Infamous.

skydragoonity1352d ago

Infamous second son is miles ahead of sunset overdrive no room for comparison really

Funky Town_TX1352d ago

They are completely different games.

scark921352d ago

Well they are not completely different if they are being compared..

danny8181352d ago

lol I played infamous. It was honestly a snooze fest man.... people will hate me for saying it but each to their own

All_Consoles1352d ago

I thought it was great, just way too short and most of the powers didn't feel that different

All_Consoles1352d ago

Well I know which console you own now

brich2331352d ago
