I think that when people aren't good enough seems to blame others or other things instead of admit even to themselves that there not as good as they think they were.

Naughty Dog disagrees. They touted a while back that their facial capture would set the bar and the game would run at 60fps.

Developer skill is always important their are a lot of times when certain programmers run inefficient code and have unpotimized code everything gets clogged up and bottlenecks. Some people can achieve unprecedented results with 8gigs of ram kind of like what ND did with 256mb on PS3.

There are some Amazing Programmers working at ND maybe even godly. How many programmers are out there who can claim they can do Character Modeling/sculpting in Zbrush, 3D animation in Maya, Texture, Rig including make sexy concept art aswell as write efficient code not many that's for sure a lot of them are artistically challenged and will make it clear to you the moment you ask them.

Edit: Naughty Dog is so deadly they even have their own employees visiting other game studios and giving them tips. Judd Simantov lead programmer(TLOU) and another ND employee also opened up their own Game Development School focusing on Character Modeling and concept art.

i see what he mean while looking at the video. the model isnt responding realistic and fast enough. looks good tho. its har to get a real effect on face animation. the char face always look stiff and suffers from to much botox
