Over a year after their initial Kickstarter announcement, Yacht Club Games has had their first game, Shovel Knight, released for a little over a month. While only the English version is out on 3DS, Wii U and PC, Yacht Club has been more than happy to present the results of their labors for everyone to see. It can all be found on their official blog, but we'll highlight the main points of interest here.
This is one of those games that I would use as a highlight when trying to explain just how great some of the games from back in my childhood were, because it takes elements from all of them and mixes them all up into an unforgettable joy ride of new experiences and comforting nostalgia, with a bit of hair-tearing difficulty in certain areas mixed in for good measure.
It's truly a modern-day example of some of the best traits of classic games; anyone who hasn't given this a chance is missing out, and it deserves to be a landmark and guide-post to future indie developers on how to do a classic-style game the right way.
I've been debating on buying this for my 3ds let alone pc. However I feel when it gets announced for the ps4 (hopefully soon) I would much prefer to play on my home console of choice to relive that nostalgia I've been craving since my ps1/snes/nes days
As much as I want to play it,I know it will be free with Gold or Plus when it releases for MS and Sony systems or shortly after.Every indie game I have bought or though about buying seems to come to those services.I like to get my moneys worth out of Plus and gold and can't if I buy the games before they add them.
