Preview: Can Lords of the Fallen step out from Dark Souls' shadow? [Dealspwn]

Dealspwn writes: Lords of the Fallen is looking like Dark Souls crossed with The Witcher. And that's fine.

When you first pick up the controller and start playing Lords of the Fallen, it becomes readily apparent that From Software's opus has been an enormous influence on this game. The controller setup is almost identical, the challenging philosophy behind the action is clearly evident, as is the commitment to visually interesting spaces, vistas, and enemies. Oh, and let us not forget the enormous, hard-as-nails bosses. But what's clear is that Tomasz Gop , Deck13 and CI Games have little interest in making Lords of the Fallen a measuring rod and an exercise in frustration. (Lords of the Fallen, PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Also one of my most anticipated games of the year!! I'm the biggest Souls fan so I don't mind another game that's inspired by the series at all! Got mine fully paid off, just 2 months to go!!

I agree with you. I have similar feelings. LoF looks great. :) I hope that finally stop comparing LoF with DS.

Once people get to play it. . they'll realize that it can stand on it's own two feet.

Well the game is more than a dark souls clone
it will also have a moral decisions for the story.

Looks more like Darksiders than Dark Souls to me, the devs themselves said it's more arcade-y. The way the damage numbers pop up it looks like a traditional 3rd person mmo as well.

Who cares about the shadow. If it's good it's good.

Dark Souls is more horrorish, and has a fairly realistic approach to weaponry, armor and combat. (some exceptions)

This games style is alot different, only similarity being the gameplay mechanics.. so yes, i think it can stand on its own feet
