The Last Of Us' Henry Could Be One Of Gaming's Best

Rich Drummond of Gaming Tech United writes:

"The Last of Us is a game that I finally got my hands on due to its release on the PS4 by way of the Remastered version. The experience I had with it is a topic for another day, but there was one character for me that stood out in front of the rest as something very special and that character may not be the one you're thinking of. That character' name? Henry."

Interms of rendering, I did think that Henry was the best rendered character, but I think that's because he is a black character. I've heard it said that black or darker skin toned characters render better, because of the skin textures - not sure how true that is though.

That's actually pretty interesting. Thanks for the heads, I had never heard that before. Gave you an "Interesting" bubble for bringing that up!

That's racist.

:p

Just kidding.

Very interesting what you said though. Have a bubble.

I think one of the reasons for this could be due to skin materials/shaders required for rendering dark skin. With lighter skin the artist has to paint in/bake quite a bit of the redness under the skin to fake the look of light passing through. This won't look too great in dynamic lighting. With dark skinned characters this(SSS) isn't very noticeable even in strong light; meaning you only have to focus on the textures and glossy shaders for a realistic look.

All the characters in TLOU were outstanding but the one thats on top of the list and arguably on of the best characters on any platform has to be Elle and Ashley Johnson did a fantastic job bringing her to life.

Ashley's performance was off the charts. Her and Henry were my favorite characters from the game, hands down. Can't wait to see what she does next.

I'm with you to a degree. It's not that I didn't like Henry, I liked him fine. But Sam was a much more interesting character to me and would have loved a bit more dialog in game of him and Ellie together.

Didn't really care for most of the characters in TLoU.
