The Xbox One will cost $600 in China and the internet explodes

Chinese gamers aren’t impressed by that price at all. A reader poll conducted on Netease Games found that of the nearly 10,000 respondents, only 2.4% could accept the device being priced so high. And the comments on an article about the rumors has already attracted more than 2,000 comments, most of them negative.

Yep I thought so that price man that price is toooo high.

For a product created in China per the charter, that seems ridiculous. But remember the sole seller is China Telecom . What they seem to be doing is trying to sell it like a cell phone where you pay over time as part of a contract.

This would make more sense. This will make it less likely for people to buy it separately. People who get the Xbox will most likely submit to a contract to lower the price.

redwin1118d ago

China imposes a 17% tax on all imports, so, MS is pricing it the same as here it's just that the Chinese government is doing its job so domestic products do better than imports. The same goes for the cars.

Christopher1117d ago

@redwin: Why would there be an import tax on something manufactured and assembled in China?

Serious question.

This is why MS is able to keep console prices so low in Brazil. They do similar work there and they don't have to deal with import taxes (but there are other taxes) the way Sony does.

Giul_Xainx1117d ago

Yes.. it did explode. That really does bite wind...

But 600 usd after conversion?

xxjabberxx1117d ago (Edited 1117d ago )

17% taxes. Let's do the math if priced at 499 X 1.17 = 583.83. I don't think their taxes are at 17% they must be much higher than that. @ redwin

Yawwwwnnnn more fabricated articles. I bet China even knew they would have to pay more. Luxury items cost more in China for example the iphone is up to $300 more in China. We only have a less than 2 months before the launch, if there was no XB1 interest they would not have 70+ devs already making games and the biggest publisher would not have 3 XB1 games ready for launch.

PS You see MSFT is finding ways to cut other prices, xbl gold is half the price, and games are $20 cheaper. And that bundle gets an amazing amount of content for $600.

@OrangePowerz Watch Dogs, Killer Instinct, AC unity, Titanfall, Halo, Sunset Overdrive have already been approved. The restrictions are not as tight as you were led to believe.

cell9891118d ago

funny how theyre made in China, yet its more expensive in there. Youd think by saving on the import tariffs and shipping, it would be at a lower cost. I always imagined employees at this factories even get these items at employee discount lol wow greedy corporation are greedy

OrangePowerz1118d ago

Spin doctor is in da house.

Neither X1 or PS4 will make a dent in the Chinese market. Most games are banned over there and China is waaaay more into PC online games.

DeadRabbits1118d ago

Imagine a console was released in the States that only 16% most well off of the population could afford.

It would be defined as an elitist luxury product!

kreate1118d ago (Edited 1118d ago )

Instead of games being cheaper, i think the console should be priced cheaper.

And price the games a little higher if anything.

Microsoft has the financial edge over sony. So Microsoft should sell it at a lost to the chinese.

Xbox live should be free in china.

Once u get some units moving, start charging ppl small amounts at a time.

Wonder what Microsoft is expecting from the chinese though. Give them a discount or something, they're the ones who is making the console for u.

batman21x1118d ago

Might have something to do with the taxes microsoft has to pay china..maybe

They also said it had no games lol.

XB1_PS41117d ago (Edited 1117d ago )

@Deadrabbits 16% of 1,351,000,000 is 216,160,000. 216m people can afford an XB1 by your numbers. That's a lot.

Specially for a country that is notorious for pirating anything and everything, good luck Microsoft ;)

Whirlwind_Fanfare_081119d ago (Edited 1119d ago )

Have they lost their natural born minds?

C-H-E-F1118d ago

ish cost more than a ps3 crazy because even the ps3 as of late has been doing 1080p smh.

iamnsuperman1118d ago (Edited 1118d ago )

It will be the import/foreign tax and piracy issue that has driven up the price.

edit: I may be wrong but Microsoft was meant to be partnering with some chinese TV company to (well rumored to) circumvent some tax issues

This $600 price is only going to make it so the Dreamboxstation One is released in 2015 instead of 2016.

So in a land where goods are manufactured on the cheap , probably including china (i dont know) or taiwan , you're charging 600$ ? That's not insulting at all

Death1118d ago

More like labor is exploited. China has actually been turning work away from the U.S. as their economy has been improving. Parts of rural China are still very poor, but other parts are doing very well. It's fascinating to see the diversity in not only culture but in the economic state people live in.

iceman061118d ago

Which kind of makes these prices, not just for Xbox One but for mobile phones and tablets, a bit of the kick in the nuts. The very people that are exploited to make these items would completely struggle to afford them. This isn't a knock on MS. It's just a general observation.

Death1118d ago

It's a horrible practice that happens globally.

colonel1791118d ago

Is it the one that does not include Kinect?

Mikelarry1118d ago

Now that's the real question
