Crytek is dead. For the second time. Their PR can't revive the corpse.

Crytek: "We will be making Crysis 2 on the consoles and positioning ourselves to be console game developers because that's where the money is at"

Well how is that working out for you?
TekoIie  +   213d ago
There is some good news there though:

"Deep Silver announces that it has acquired the Homefront brand and all coherent assets from Crytek. This includes Homefront: The Revolution which has been announced on 2nd June 2014. The development will be continued in newly founded, Nottingham-based Deep Silver Dambuster Studios."

I think it's safe to assume this studio was Crytek UK since it was also based in Nottingham. Good to know the dev's will be able to continue their work without any worries if true.

It was only a matter of time before this happened

I suspect Microsoft will acquire Ryse shortly...if not the whole studio.

Sh*t.. Seems things at Crytek are really not peachy after all.

So this means also the Crome Engine 5? or do they keep the Cry Engine?

The Chrome Engine is owned by Techland.

I'm not sure they'll keep CryEngine, either.
Harmonizer  +   213d ago
As mentioned in the article they got to keep all the assets - Which have all been made in Cryengine - so i think it's safe to assume Homefront will continue on Cryengine and they will licence the Cryengine from Crytek.
Crytek have been putting the inevitable!
MrSwankSinatra  +   213d ago
Damn, but what does this mean for crytek though?
pixelpatch  +   213d ago
their gone sooner or later
HiTMaNHuntr  +   213d ago
Pretty much. Unless someone purchases them they aren't looking to good.
( And honestly I don't expect them to be bought. But that's just my expectation. )
Sevir  +   213d ago
I think hat they'll either downsize and close a few studios Crytek has 3 they may go down to one and stay independent or. sell off the studios to other publishers, I think EA and Ms would be in the bids for them considering their relationship.

Sony should look into acquiring something of Crytek.
Maybe add them to their tech engineering efforts in the Japan HQ.

In anycase, i'm sad to see tat another Game developer is hit with a hard time, and this proved that the developer was really going through a rough time.
n4rc  +   213d ago
Damn.. This is like the first confirmed sign crytek is really in trouble.. That I've seen anyways
AllAboutGaming  +   213d ago
Now Deep Silver should change the name so it isn't associated with the horrible first Homefront game.
jnemesh  +   213d ago
The bigger concern is that they are now associated with Koch industries! I won't be buying this, or any other title associated with the Kochs!
SaveFerris  +   213d ago
I wonder to what extent this will affect the development of the game?
Benoski  +   213d ago
And just as Crytek said that they are addressing their financial issues.

Just die already, would you?!
Benoski  +   213d ago
Why all the disagrees?

Crytek have been making a handful of poor decisions recently, and now they're paying the price for it.
Revolt13  +   213d ago
What a shame
Mikeyy  +   213d ago
Well you can't just make games that look pretty, and have generic game play.
Doritos_Pope  +   213d ago
So, Koch media.. . . king of the Double A?
christocolus  +   213d ago
Wow.. Now they are selling off their ips? I guess we now know how they were able to raise capital. Hopefully MS aquires the Ryse ip. Its got a lot of potential to be much bigger than the first.

Phil&crytek make this happen... pls.

OrangePowerz  +   213d ago
Not sure if they do that since apperently Crytek didn't agree to do Ryse 2 because they would have lost the IP. Meaning they rather made no money and no game instead of getting the game financed by MS and giving up the IP.
christocolus  +   213d ago
That was far back in february.. and all that happened before their financial crysis started.. Crytek have officially stated they will be online game publishers from now on&it seems theyve also started selling off their ips. so who knows? MS and crytek have refused to comment on the matter.both sides haven't made any official statements&back in may Phil stated on twitter that the ryse ip had sold fairly well and despite the bad reviews gamers actually loved the ip. In other words a plan for a sequel should be in the works. At this point I believe crytek will jump at an offer from MS.
christocolus  +   213d ago
Crytek also says they will start making arena based online games. So what happens to timesplitters, Crysis &dark siders?

OrangePowerz  +   213d ago
Some Scandinavian publisher bought Dark Siders at the THQ auction.
christocolus  +   213d ago
I got it all mixed up then. Thanks. Atleast darksiders is safe.
NYC_Gamer  +   213d ago
Nordic Games have the Darksider rights
OrangePowerz  +   213d ago
So that's how they secured money?
ThatOneRiggaNob  +   213d ago
I hope MS weasels their way in and buy the Ryse ip now
mhunterjr  +   213d ago
Who's running this company? They were bold enough to turn down an offer for Ryse that, reportedly, would've allowed them to pay their employees... They downplay the rumors of their troubles with updates on how great Homefront will be, Then they put out a statement that their finances are in good shape, then they sell Homefront....

The order of events make NO SENSE.

PS please sell Ryse to MS.

This is great news. I really hope they make do Homefront in the same style they did the Metro games. If so, we should be in for a treat!
Bonkerz  +   213d ago
Wonder when MS will buy Ryse ip, or hell they might buy Crytek lol.
pixelpatch  +   213d ago
This comes after the Director of Homefrome resigns... it just goes from bad to worse.
ATi_Elite  +   213d ago
Crytek wants to be online publishers!

Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age actually looks pretty good. It's very much like the Order 1866 but an online game but no futuristic weapons as of right now.

Warface: dead except for in Russia where it is still hot hot hot.

Arena of Fate: a Generic MOBA!

better push that Cryengine and make games for the big boys. Should of stayed a PC first company and none of this would be happening.

Crysis Warhead 2 PC Exclusive might save you.
