''If you are not familiar with the Singstar franchise, it's basically a Karaoke game where you sing along with video tracks from a wide range of artists. In Singstar for the Playstation 3, the series stays on the same road as before while branching out with updated HD graphics and a robust online service that will surely become a staple in the franchise over the upcoming years. Music games have hit an all-time high with the success of online downloads and its not surprising that Sony wants to tap into the cash printing market of downloadable songs.
If you already own the dual red and blue microphones and USB attachment you won't have to repurchase your mics to work with the new PS3 version of Singstar. The PS2 microphones work just as good as the new microphones which is a relief. This saves Singstar devotees some cash that they can now reinvest at the Singstar online store, simply labeled the "Singstore". Thankfully, Sony has set the price reasonably at just over a buck a song that it makes it easy to cough up some extra dollars.
Initially Singstar comes with 36 songs that include everything from Weezer - "Buddy Holly" and The Killers - "Mr. Brightside" to Amy Winehouse - "Back to Black" and Radiohead - "No Surprises". The selection is pretty good, luckily I am into most of the music played, however fans of other genres like country or jazz will have nothing to go with here. Also, Singstar really lacks variety in woman songs with only 8 out of the 36 being female songs. For the ladies, you only have Nina Persson from the Cardigans, Ana Lynch from the Scissor Sisters, Macy Gray, Corinne Bailey Rae, Amy Winehouse, Brittney Spears, The Pussycat Dolls and Gwen Stefani. While the tracks are mainly new ones, one should think they could have included more tracks considering they have nine versions of Singstar.''
