Ubisoft published a gameplay trailer for Assassin's Creed Unity in which 15 people are stabbed to death, mostly via wounds to the neck and throat. It's okay if that makes you uncomfortable.
Sure, but you also don't need to try and convince people of the inverse either.
I'm perfectly fine with fictional violence, in the form of entertainment. Real violence is obviously a completely different matter, but no one in their right mind would mix the two up.
Wait! You have the unique (but extremely common) ability to discern between fantasy and reality!?!!
Yep. I'm still waiting to be recruited for The X-Men or the Avengers, because of these powers. I swear I'll only use them for good.
Most of my favorite games are very violent. Even my favorite racer (Road Rash) is violent. This might have something to do with why mostly men buy consoles. Most men are attracted to violent entertainment.
People wasting their breath and time talking about fictional violence are the same people who have the means to stop real life violence but choose not to get involved. Right now immigrant kids crossing the desert to reach America are dying. Isreali and Palestinian kids are dying. Ukranian kids are dying. Syrian kids are dying even though the news just stopped reporting it. Also many African girls and Afghanistan girls are being kidnapped and violated and killed but....... These people are talking about fictional violence. Hit reset and the fictional characters are reborn meanwhile kids are dying and there is no reset button on a human life.
There a simple solution, if you don't like it don't buy it
I don't personally think the AC games has enough violence, it's very tame, some sound fx and a little blood skirt is as violent as AC gets (not played Flag Flag) It's one of my main complaints of the series what's wrong with body dismemberment? Ubisoft should say screw it and make it a mature 18 game, it's holding itself back by not
Yeah, Ubisoft censors itself. We saw the same with Watch_Dogs: the violence is there, but not really. There's just minimal impact, damage and blood when you shoot someone. I'm not a gore-hond by any means, but I don't care much for self-censorship either, where you get 'clean' violence... because it's just unrealistic and it's annoying and takes you out of the game.
You worded it much better than me
Are we still complaining about video game violence? If it makes you uncomfortable then don't buy it or play it. I'm with Hellsvacancy on this. It isn't graphic enough. I mean if your stabbing goons with a sword or dagger there should be some wounds & lots of blood. Same goes for bullets.
Even more good news, you also don't need the permission of a hit hungry dishonest millennial sissy to feel that way.
Is it also ok if it doesn't make u uncomfortable. And your able to realize the difference between a video game and real life. I also know the difference between video game journalists and these talentless hacks at polygon.
This article gets a +1 to full retard and an extra 50% chance to roll a dumbassery of the day award.
2 sjw articles from Polygon. Wtf?
They are not SJWs. Martin Luther King, Medgar Evers, Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony ... those were Warriors. They faced death, prison, rape, beatings. These whiners will never face such dangers, they are not warriors nor really even affecting the world in which we live in.
Completely agree with you and we'll said, however the experience of living traumatic events and the understanding of these events are in no way separate in the sense that they are emotional events to both parties, though the experience of living and knowing are separate they leave a lasting effect. Back on topic though with so much depiction of these events on entertainment it's not hard to understand why most under 20 feel a separation and departure from these "events' ( how many people in video games have you heard I'll rape so and so). Honestly I don't know what to say now but not everyone is detached from horrific events, but yes certain degenerates are and in truth they are. Ps. This ain't a criticism of what you said just a little bit of faith back in humanity
My bad, it's just the standard term that's used around the net to describe these people. I know full well about the history.
Wow 2 dumb articles from Polygon in a single day. Way to go guys! Polygon is really going full retard today.
I can't wait to see what "touchy" subject they will "write" about next!! Anyone got any ideas?
Yeah, and best way to not be ok with it - is to not play it and shut up and leave others to their own choice. They've shown tons and tons of footage of stealth action and of just the new procedural engine and new maneuvering mechanics. You are choosing to take the one violent trailer that is actually depicting the history of this place and you are making it into violence sells. Yeah, violence sells, but atleast this is based on reality. Unlike most the ridiculous violent movies only out to be more violent and shocking than the last. Why not go after that? The game is set in an insanely violent time, I want them to capture it the way it's suppose to be. I don't want a watered down history lesson. It's dummies like this that caused Treyarch to stop making dismemberment in COD. World At War was so awesome because that dynamic dismemberment. Games that are suppose to be violent should get as violent as they are suppose to get, no holding back. I like how they always go after HipHop music and videogames. Go after the crazy violent movies like Saw that aren't telling history stories or anything, they are just purposely looking for the most sick, shock value fueled ways of killing. No, you rather go after the littler dog, even though it's too big for you to do anything serious to anymore. No laws will be passed anymore, games make too much money, all that they can do is come out with dumb articles like this one now.
Don't like it? Fine, just don't bother me with your opinions. As I got my own.
Polygon is just pushing their liberal agenda on everyone... I wish they would do less of these editorials pandering to the weak of heart and mind
It's it the conservatives that like to complain about video game violence?
It's a fallacy that he was taught to spell or given any cognitive ability
What does this have to do with politics? And, if you recall, the conservatives have always been the ones who want to silence free speech, not the liberals.
Conservatives want to silence free speech? They're not the ones who will attack and bully you ruthlessly if you don't agree with them. Also its funny in another article on N4G MSNBC was attacking video games and they're as liberal as you can possibly get.
Actually it's the liberals who wanna silence free speech by labelling those that disagree with them racist, misogynist, homophobe, rape-apologist, etcetera, conflating valid criticism with hate.
Do you know what a liberal is you uneducated swine , or was your heart and mind not in your writing, and fuc*ing hell you have 4 wan*ers agreeing with you. You have now polluted 4 twits into thinking like you, I suppose you don't vote or read politcs my god your such a idiot. You have offended me that's why I'm so pissed. I wish there was a bubble down for idiot, or ignorant or something like that, and again 4 idiots agreed with you fuc* me. But me actually being a liberal ( a liberal in the sense of its real meaning not yours) I can say this
I think you're thinking of liberal in a classic sense, modern-day liberals are basically fascists.
It's posts like this that really confuse the issues. Reverse course...is your post a prime example of a liberal? Should everyone reading it be offended because you cannot express anything without expletives or personal attack? How does his opinion really hurt or offend you in the same regard as your general view? Grow up please, you didn't pioneer the "liberal agenda".
Obviously you're making the liberals look like better people here. Ahaha..
@ JonathanACE Modern-day liberals are basically Marxists and commies.
And yet you only have 3 bubbles...
Zenith, You aren't from the USA? The terms liberal and conservative don't have the same meaning as the rest of the world. Conservative: Carry a cross and wrap yourself in a flag "patriots" that shun all outsiders, spend billions on wars and military (but not on the hospitals that care for the soldiers), right to bear arms, push Christianity into schools in place of Biology, Astronomy and Physics, and basically reject most accepted science (like evolution, human caused global warming, Big Bang, Relativity, Calculus, Helocentric Theory) Liberals: If we throw money at it, it will be fixed, pro gay, pro immigration, pro freedom of/ from religion, "activists" who love science, have an "agenda," hate guns (guns cause crimes apparently), want tolerance for all peoples, SJWs, anti drug war, anti military industrial complex union (and apparently communist) hippies. Unfortunately, the world has a different definition of both of these viewpoints. But there are some interesting facts: In conservative states there is more crime, poverty, people on public assistance, lower IQ, and lower health In liberal states there are hundreds of quality universities (all the Ivy League, in fact,) higher IQ, better health, better public educational systems with Massachusetts being 4th in the entire world, New York's is in the top 10.
Good lord. There's nothing doing more damaging to the gaming industry than this farce called gaming journalism. Greedy companies get their comeuppance. Fanboys are mostly harmless, since they're relatively few in number and rarely have anything in the way of influence. But the so-called journalists that cover the industry... Thru incite fanboys, have too much influence, whine about issues that aren't even issues, lead content makers to believe we want crap we actually don't, and generally fanboy it up, themselves. What we need- and will never have- is a complete reboot of the reporting side of the industry. If things went back to the way they were fifteen, twenty years ago, we'd dispense with this stupidity, and reviews would actually be somewhat reliable, among other things.
Yes, you do. That's like saying you don't have to be okay with harlequin love novels. I don't enjoy reading them, but why would I not be okay with their existence? Other people enjoy them. How ridiculous can you get, Polygon?
Don't EVER....EVER....ever..ever..ev er..ever (Chris Tucker'd) ask that question again!!! You might just tempt them to get MORE ridiculous to prove that it CAN be done.
Slow news day for Polygon to.come up with that and mental health complaint? Than again it's the site that scored TLoU lower because of violence. They are games and by far not as bad as what we see on the news every day or in movies.
Yes and where I'm from this trailer is better than the news on TV.
Don't care about polygon But The evil within was just too gore and disgusting for the normal minded person ( even though i have an experience with gore stuff ) it also needs a strong stomach to handle all the disgusting gore stuff behind it , Shinji Mikami put all his focus on gore instead of horror on this game :\
That's why they call it HORROR. It's horrific. Gore is horrific. Maybe you aren't 'normal minded' and are just extra weak?
Did you just miss the point of my comment and just ignore what i says ? There's a huge difference between "Horror" and "Gore" disgusted by something isn't considered horror TEW mostly focuses on Gore , i suggest you to look into the game once it release , and again no I'm not weak for these type of stuff ( Read my comment why ) , I'm just suggesting for the normal minded people or the weak ones who have health issues to think twice before getting into this do you consider an advice a harm ? i don't think you will
Gore =/= Horror they can work separately too you know. gore isn't tied to horror necessarily :)
"disgusted by something isn't considered horror" Of course, but is the game about boogers and poop? Or about blood and guts spewing from hellish creatures?
You can create horror with gore. A lot of horror movies use a lot of gore to produce the horror. When Resident Evil launched it also had a lor more gore than most of the other games. What made likers so scary was to a large degree on how they kill.
I'm glad I don't have to be ok with violence in video games, but as it happens I am ok with it. In fact, many times, I'm more than ok with it. Many times, I feel that there isn't enough. : /
I just find it hilarious that with every new generation, there are complaints about the 'hyper-realistic' violence. I remember when mortal kombat was considered hyper-realistic. I wonder when we'll TRULY reach a level of realism in games that actually negatively affects society. My guess is NEVER... Mainly because humans have been violent since before video games were a thing.
My only problem with it is when it's used so much that it gets boring. More ways to kill things is usually only entertaining for a short time.
Just the same as you don't have to play violent games. Not everything is for everyone.
i thought ign was the only gaming outlet to be balless these media guys cry to much about games being to violent its rated M for a reason if you don't like it don't play it its thats simple& this guy clearly never played the original games like in the original https://www.youtube.com/wat...
I'm still waiting for AO rated games.
Won't happen till the console makers and retailers stop treating games as a kids thing.
If it's ok to watch tom cruises face melt in edge of tomorrow which is Bbfc rated 12a, then it's ok to have violence such as this in video games rated 16+. There is a massive double standard when it comes to violence in media
Please more violence in games, at least have the option :) Not to promote violence or anything. But the games are meant to be played as intended by the developer, NOT by some kind of law or institution. If you play a zombie game, you'll want to see as much gore, blood and intestines as possible. I'd definitely opt for on option in GTA where you can shoot of peoples limbs. I wouldn't care so much for an option where the driver shoots out of his front window and crashed to the wall leaving nothing but a bloody mess, when playing Need for Speed. Oh and for the people who say: well people might get violent or try to do this in real life: bullshit. If someone is prone to these kind of stuff, he has other problems he needs to address and should not be playing video games in the first place. That's like saying: Vodka should contain less alcohol, cause people might get way too drunk and do dangerous stuff. Alcohol isn't the problem, the person is. Let the developers decide. The gamers can decide with their wallet. And for everyone else, the amazing words from Charlie Kelly (Charlie Day): S u in the A's, don't wear a C and J all over your B's.
Chaos in games are therapeutic. In fact it is sweetness in several cases. How did I conquer motion sickness in classic First Person Shooters? I did it the 'normal way'. Why did I keep playing GTA IV and GTA V? Ragdolls, glitches, occasional gut-wrenching deadly stunts, etc...
in my opinion i like brutality and bloody in games even i like brutal Doom mode and i wait Doom 2015
Good read. For those who didn't read the article and ran with the title, the author's talking about advertising the game for what it's really not about. This is not a video game violence rant.
