Game dev berates gaming media on its “junior high school” analysis of PS4′s performance in Japan

What does one do to complain about the lack of truly insightful articles regarding the PS4 available for public consumption? Take to your Twitter account to protest, of course!

And that’s exactly what led Motoi Okamoto, a former director at Nintendo and current CEO and founder of Entersphere Co., Ltd., to go on a short Twitter rant over the span of about eight minutes. (PS4)

That spammer doesn't read anything.

Guys let's be serious here, due to his intelligence level and his spelling of supremacy, I think he's illiterate.

A Nintendo employee defending the PS4!

This is why I love Japan.
Fullmetalevolust  +   564d ago
Lol, ouch?
some of those "journalists" are not market analysts...so perhaps a lil' schooling wouldn't hurt.
Corpser  +   564d ago
Wait til he sees the junior high analysis by n4g and gaf users!

Personally I think that Persona 5 and Tales of Zestiria should get PS4 versions! It's great that PS3 is still gonna be going strong in 2015 but PS4 desperately needs JRPG's to really get kick started in Japan.

thats Sony's job to attract japanese gamers and developers alike.
japanese devs will jump on board when the install base is big enough
Kurisu  +   564d ago
It's catch 22 really. Developers want to wait for a bigger install base, but it's games that help grow that install base.

It's true that console gaming is taking a back seat to mobile gaming in Japan, but that doesn't mean they aren't interested in the product. The Western Gaming Media just likes to feed the machine of controversy and push out as much click bait based articles as possible without giving any real in depth thought about what topic they are publishing about...it's literally just become a force of opinion nowadays.

The PS4 isn't selling well in the Japanese market, because there is simply no reason for it to. Most of the key developers on their side are still in the transitioning phase from last gen to current and the PS3 is still supported, sales will likely increase in 2015 though after some of the reveals at Tokyo Game Show 2014.

Personally I can't wait until the companies overseas start putting in work on the PS4. That's when the real fun begins.

Japan is a busted flush. The only game of any excitement coming out of that spent force is Metal Gear.
DCfan  +   564d ago
when you look at it, the entire industry is a mess right now.
Half assed games, dlcs left and right, dlcs before the game comes out, emphasis on graphics instead of gameplay (See: tlou), milking franchises.
So please, the western side of gaming is in much more trouble than japan. I don't care about publicity, because whats selling the most in the west is garbage that gets spewed every year.
Ryan741  +   564d ago
I agree with you on some points but it is still far better than Japan. Mario and Snake are great though.

"emphasis on graphics instead of gameplay (See: tlou)"

i's not like we don't know how the last of us plays i mean we had it on PS3 soooooooooooooooooo i don't see your point of course people wanna know about the graphics it's the remastered version same thing happened with tomb raider definitive edition people wanted to see how it looked because we already knew how it played buuuuuut that's not my business http://www.marketmenot.com/...
DCfan  +   564d ago
@ryan
Thats your personal preference and i respect that.

@xsilver
I wasn't talking about the remastered version.
I played the game on ps3 and my god the gameplay was shallow to the point i felt like i was just walking towards the next cutscene.
I beat the game, sold it, never looked back, and swore not to buy into the hype and never buy a game on day 1.
Skankinruby  +   564d ago
Uhm the last of us was a perfect balance of gameplay and cutscenes. Without a solid story you can have all the perfect gameplay you want (whatever the hell that means anyway) but without a reason to finish the game it loses its appeal in an hours time. The only thing thats a 'mess' is people always trying to find something to complain about with the evolution of gaming, even if they have to grasp at straws not unlike what you're doing now.

Honestly most of these hastily assembled websites that pop up and only manage to write one poorly worded paragraph of an article before disappearing do seem like they are written by junior high schoolers with heavy bias one way or the other.
WilliamUsher  +   564d ago
...that's because they probably are junior high students.

I honestly could not care less about how the PS4 does in Japan, considering that except for Nintendo, Kojima Studios and a few other select development teams, no Japanese gaming company has any relevance in this day and age. Gaming culture as a whole has shifted to the west and with good reason, since Japanese developers cannot keep up with the times. They do not push the limits of the systems, they are in creative stagnation and their gaming culture is ridiculously Japan-centric to the point of being almost xenophobic.

If the PS4 doesn't sell in Japan, it's Japan's loss, and pretty soon they won't have any decent consoles to play cause the big guys won't even consider releasing them there. Leave them to their portable and mobile kids games and let us real players have the grown up games.
jnemesh  +   563d ago
I agree with Mr. Okamoto. Too many articles about "Why the PS4 is failing in Japan" are written by people who don't live there, don't speak the language, don't understand the market, and who are basically just talking to hear themselves speak!

Everyone, of course, is entitled to their own opinion...but to write a story where these guys are pretending to be the "experts" on the matter is going a bit far.
