I've lost faith in movie games, but please don't suck :/

XiSasukeUchiha1606d ago

Agreed My ninja please don't suck just please!

Concertoine1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

To be honest i feel like this would be redundant. The Last of Us is not only already a very cinematic experience, but a lot of what makes it feel so original and impactful is the fact that it's told in an interactive medium.

I mean deep down, The Last of Us is guilty of all the zombie cliches, (the "i can't shoot my former friend" scene, the cannibals, the child growing up in an apocalyptic world, etc.) but the way it's presented makes it feel fairly fresh. I think if you take away the interactivity, you take away a huge part of the story's ability to impact the player and seem new. You really bond with the characters over 15 hours, its hard to replicate that in a 2 hour movie.

I guess the argument is that this gives a good story exposure to people who don't play games, and i know it would make a lot of money (cuz zombies).

duckmysick1606d ago

There is not 1 single zombie in The last of us. The reason it is acclaimed is because it breaks from the clichés you mention.

*spoiler* ..left behind was everything BUT cliche. How about the 1st (that I have seen) openly gay character, or, the relationship that builds between the 2. I really hate when someone simplify things to justify their means to an end.

Don't know if the movie will be good or not.. But the game is cemented as 1 of the greatest gaming experiences of all time. Defeated by none in its genre.

Concertoine1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Infected, zombies, whatever...

I just named 3 cliches. There's plenty more, like the overly paranoid trap setting survivor. The zombie/infected genre at this point is making old plotpoints and twists seem new, which TLOU does a fantastic job of. The fungus themed infection and highly vegetated post-apocalyptic world are some twists on conventional zombie themes.

Also, Ellie isn't openly gay. She doesn't flat out state it, and if you take an experimental kiss as "openly gay" then a LOT of people are openly gay LOL. I dont really think a character's sexual preference is a plus or minus for a game anyway. I find it kind of hypocritical for you to accuse me of simplifying to support my argument, then you simplify a character's sexuality, then you say what my point was anyway (that the movie may or may not serve the game justice).

I think you are being too sensitive. I clearly stated it was a great game with a great plot, perhaps so suited in its medium that it could be lost in translation to another.

Army_of_Darkness1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

The last of us movie came out before the game... It's called "the road" on netflix, check it out! Pretty good flick ;-)

Concertoine1606d ago

I feel like i should add that having a good story and having good storyTELLING are two different things. The plot in TLOU is pretty standard stuff, but the way its told is what makes it exceptional.

I watched it a few weeks ago. The end... ;_;

Hopefully everything goes well.

ArchangelMike1606d ago

I'm disappointed they're making a movie. AS if there aren't already 1000000 post pandemic movies out there. Don't get me wrong, it'll be great for the franchise and for ND and, let's face it, a sequel - especially if the move doesn't tank at the box office.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still see the movie, heck I'll be first in line... :)

Goku7811606d ago

I hope it doesn't either.

Hmmmm...Ellie is a tough one to cast in a film. Most teenage actors are crap these days.

The only one I could see playing her who is fantastic is Maisie Williams. Arya Stark is quote tomboy like in Game of Thrones so she probably could pull Ellie off no problem.

Then Joel...but he's an easy one

WillGuitarGuy1606d ago

I can see Hugh Jackman as Joel. Maisie Williams on the other hand I'd have to see to believe. We'll see who's casted though...hopefully!

Whoops....double post

Shame Ellen Page wasnt 13 years younger

I don't understand why Sony let Neil write the films script but they didn't get Amy Hennig to do the Uncharted one. Neil is in a very lucky posistion, all he has to do is condense the games script and remove the gameplay sections while adding something in its place to move the film along. If he creates something fom scratch and its totally different then hes blown his chance.

Concertoine1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

I think Ellen Page could easily pass as a 13-14 year old girl. I know for sure she doesnt have to be 13 years younger at least, because she plays teenage characters to this day. Especially if they have a tall Joel to give some perspective. I mean in pictures next to Alexander Skaarsgard she looks like she could be his daughter almost.

Still, they could probably find a better actress. The way i see it, she doesn't have to closely resemble the one from the game, just share the personality.

FantasyStar1606d ago

It would be convenient too. Ellie is debated to be gay. On the same coin; Ellen Page is gay. It works out.

Riderz13371606d ago

That girl looks way too young to be Ellie

ifistbrowni1606d ago

funny thing is, that girls is 17. I didn't believe it when my buddy told me.

Her birthday is April 15th, 1997 (month and day the same as mine)

BitbyDeath1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Sharlto Copley could also work as Joel.
Looks a lot like him in the movie 'Open Grave'

Why? Which is my same mentality toward the Uncharted movie... Just... Why? The games themselves are already like a movie, except better because you can control it.

I don't see the point in making movies out of games that are so cinematic, they can't possibly compete with the source material. It just seems weird to me investing all that money into a movie. Don't get me wrong, I'd watch the movies, but personally I find it odd.

Riderz13371606d ago

Why not? Neil Druckmann has a lot of creative control with this movie so it shouldn't be that bad

fenome1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Agree 100%
Although, if they did it right this could be an excellent movie. My mom doesn't play games but she really liked watching all the key parts of this story. It's an experience that deserves to be shared, as long as it's done right.

No worries though, remember they're doing a live action script read on stage in Santa Monica on Monday. It probably just has something to do with that, it's probably Ashley Johnson holding the switchblade because I think they might actually be doing live action re-enactments from parts of the game. I think they're just hyping up their performance, and this 'article' is reaching too far.

The Tweet didn't even mention anything about a movie, it just said "Tomorrow #ComicCon", I wouldn't read too much in to it.

WillGuitarGuy1606d ago

Looks like you were wrong and we were right with our prediction.

fenome1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Yeah, I just saw that earlier, good call.

I just hope it turns out as good as it should be, it would really suck if they don't do it justice.

BitbyDeath1606d ago

Books are like movies too.
Walking Dead is a comic, why make that?
Cause they are awesome to watch on TV.

Games are no different you just need the right people behind it.

Inception1606d ago

I see this movie as a promotional medium for people who don't know TLoU. Example like that Van Damme Street Fighter movie. Yes it's a bad movie (even though i enjoy watching Raul Julia as M.Bison), but the movie can attract more people who never know SF series to buy / play SF games.

If TloU movie succeed, than sony will have more budget and potential customer for TloU 2.

kneon1606d ago

It's very simple, not everyone plays games.

its a big enough game to hit movie status.

WeAreLegion1606d ago

They already confirmed a The Last of Us movie, everyone. The problem is...who will they get to make it? Everyone is arguing about casting decisions, but it really comes down to the script and production, in general. Even the best cast can't hold up a bad script.

WillGuitarGuy1606d ago

Neil's writing the script, so I doubt it'll have a bad script. Then again we haven't seen the movie yet.
