Why eSports May Be A Career Sooner Than You Think

Non-Fiction Gaming writer Aidan discusses the eSports industry in the wake of a 10 Million dollar DOTA 2 tournament.

"Although competitive gaming isn’t exactly a new thing, it’s only now reaching the stage where talented players can bank on earning a decent living playing the game they love. Fighting games, shooters, and some RTS (namely Starcraft) have long enjoyed success through institutions such as Dreamhack, EVO, Apex, and MLG." (Dota 2, eSports, League of Legends, PC, Starcraft II)

It is already a career for many!

Top Starcraft players make millions yearly.

LOL and Dota2 have tournaments that give away $10m.

Top Street Fighter 2 gamers still earn big money at tournaments.

I find that first claim as extremely hard to believe.. Nobody is making enough off it to pay that amount to anyone.

Some tournaments have big prize pools and will advertise a million dollar prize.. But its being split among several games and teams..

Some can make a decent living for sure.. But I'd bet there isn't a single guy that's ever made a million bucks from gaming.

Pretty impressive to see a 5m top prize tho.. How large are teams for that game?
