Luminous Engine Technical Director Yoshihisa Hashimoto Leaves Square Enix

The technical director for the eye popping Luminous Engine has left Square Enix to pursue other goals with another company, no further details have been given aside that he has already left the company. This news comes from a friend of Hashimoto’s that made a post on his facebook wall. The Luminous Engine was supposedly the newest graphic engine developed by Square Enix and fans had a first glance at E3 2012 when revealed Agni’s Philosophy, a tech demo running with the engine.

good, hope he'll get to make games now and not just 1 trailer per 5 years like the rest of SE

GutZ313557d ago (Edited 3557d ago )

They probably told him they will be making "Lightning Returns" sequels until he dies, or leaves the company.
Hes a bro if its the latter.

GutZ313557d ago (Edited 3557d ago )

Sorry guys, I really hated Lightning, and don't like them reusing a character for a "Final Fantasy" game.
I could understand a reboot, or a remaster, say FF7 or FF9?
I hated that they made FFX-2, it did nothing for me, and made me wish they just left FFX alone.

I found pleasure in playing fresh content, new faces, new storys told in unfamiliar places each new game.

I am sure to be apposed by many to this idea, but its my own opinion, sorry I have one.

XiSasukeUchiha3557d ago

Hopefully the dude finds a good job:)

Square Enix keeps wasting money on making engines and than not using them. Than they license other engines to run their games. No wonder they had so many projects go through development hell.

* Probably saw the writing on the wall and wanted out before it gets worse.

* After making games JUST FOR GRAPHICS, he may want to make an ACTUAL game this time.

Chard3557d ago

To this day I can't believe they actually said that. It's like they want to be a laughing stock

GutZ313557d ago

They clearly asked how to translate something, and the translator said it was correct.

Unfortunately, japanese isn't very well received directly translated.
Like many japanese words, they are actually more like sound effects or feelings that arn't used in every day speach with most english speaking cultures.

Take Doki Doki, literally it is the sound a heart beat makes, but we translate it to mean excited, afraid, or in love depending on the context.

Or, they could just be bat pooh crazy as everyone expects.

I rather think they paid the wrong translator in a hilarious fumble.

TheDevil15inallofus3557d ago

I think it's how they say, "GET HYPE!" Still, couldn't have been uttered at a worse time.

I hope this helps Nintendo some how.

It would be great if he goes into making Nintendo friendly Engines w/ actually support.

GutZ313557d ago

I would find it much more appealing if he opened his own studio, and did things as he pleases, regardless of console politics, or who pays most.

CouldHaveYelledUiiW3557d ago

Kind of what I meant, I did not mean an exclusive engine- I said "Nintendo friendly, not exclusive."

A lot of the other Current engines can run on the WiiU but have to be modified in-order to support WiiUGamepad or the less PC-like Architecture of the WiiU.

Unreal or Crytek made known that they weren't going to incorporate WiiU specific tools in there current engine.

Chrono3557d ago

Nintendo friendly Engines? You mean last gen tech?

jcnba283557d ago

Yet those "last gen" games still have a higher metacritic score than "next gen" games. Why is that?

Inception3557d ago

Wow, is this means SE will throw luminous engine to the garbage can like they did with crystal tools?

Agent_hitman3557d ago

Speaking of Luminous engine. I hope that tech demo "Agnis" will be the next FF after 15..

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle6d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger6d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag6d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

Please o please don't turn dragon quest into final fantasy square enix we dont wont that. Dragon quest works well just as it I. Plus you'll piss off Japanese fans to.

jznrpg10d ago

Hopefully they don’t. From this it doesn’t sound like that is the case and development is just taking too long.
