No. I'm a big fan of the series but this entry lacked direction. The mechanics were amazing but the story and motivation wasn't as good as the previous entries.

KingOfOldSkool3558d ago

Which still didn't prevent it from being one of the best releases of the year so far.

MWH3558d ago

I agree but I wouldn't call it amazing also because it wasn't as challenging and as dreadful as its predecessor.

unfortunately a good but forgetful game, not the experience I was eagerly looking forward to.

@segamon If you play in the covenant of champions from the start it is just as hard, besides Demon/dark souls has always been as hard as you want it to be,

@lonelyplayer I agree its not as gd and does lack direction but that didn't stop it from being goty so far, I can't think of another game I enjoyed as much and can't see any forthcoming release topping it, but hey, i'll be open minded :)

I recently beat Demon Soul's and going to start Dark Souls soon so i have to wait for it come out on PS4 :D

edqe3558d ago (Edited 3558d ago )

I would give that title for 'Divinity: Original Sin' so far.

Many very promising looking games still coming like 'Elite: Dangerous' so it's a bit too early to choose GOTY ;)

Dark Souls -series is not bad in any means but personally I think that Hack 'n' Slash gets boring very fast.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI3558d ago

I don't think you know what Hack 'n' slash is...

Potnoodle9993556d ago

nope
If you think its just a hack 'n' slash your playing it wrong, Its one of the most in depth, immersive and rewarding game series I've ever played.
and that's before i even get started on how much of a great rpg it is :)
But the goty argument is still your opinion that I respect. I just can't stand it when people degrade it to hack 'n' slash status, and that's coming from someone who is a huge god of war fan among many other awesome hack 'n' slashers.

ohhh man I totally forgot the DLC was coming out this week. So excited

ifrit_caress3558d ago

Oh my gosh, did the game really have that many bugs? Don't these guys test the game before they release it. I can see this generation games are going to be as buggy as the last.

Kivespussi3558d ago

And what a wonderful patch it was. No more Havelmonsters! Also more soul memory tiers! Buuuuut.... For some reason the monastery scimitar's super parries are back :(

Hidetaka Miyazaki claims Dark Souls 2 “carried” the series forward

The game isn't good though.

DS2 was fine. While there was a bit of recycling assets or ideas for bosses, it was a bigger more open Dark Souls. The Fume knight boss is one of the hardest bosses in the series until Sekiro and Elden Ring were released.

The problem with Dark Souls 2 was the same problem when a different director takes over for a sequel to an outstanding movie. It typically (there are exceptions) doesn’t have the feel and vision of the previous movie.

I wouldn’t say Dark Souls 2 is terrible. Had Dark Souls 1 never been a thing and we got this, I think it would have been praised more. The problem is it didn’t have the Miyazaki touch to it and felt pretty derivative. The soundtrack is a banger though.

Aussiesummer52d ago

And it will happen in the future when he doesn’t touch them as he is planning on.

MrBaskerville52d ago

I like DS 2, might even be my favorite of the 3. But it's a hard sell, there's so many obscure things you need to do to make it an enjoyable experience. So always find it hard to recommend, but it is worth the trouble.

All the bosses are only from Dark Souls. No Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, or Demon Souls
