Media Create published the latest hardware sales from Japan.
Wow, quite a boost for 3DS and Vita. PS4 down below the PS3 now.
I was expecting the 3DS to hit around 30,000 but this exceeded my expectations.
Wow PS4 plunged in sales.
Yokai boosted the 3Ds, wat boosted the Vita? Freedom Wars second week?
I was wondering that myself, after looking at the software charts I didn't see anything major for the Vita. Maybe just a really good week for them, possibly a special deal?
Freedom Wars and the blue/red value packs plus Oreshika releasing tomorrow in JP.
PS Vita should do equally good next week with the release of Oreshika:
I love the Vita jump! It's sad though when PS4 drops below PS3 IMO.
mario kart 8 boost for wii u over. under 9k
It was never there in Japan. It peaked at 19k. It will help sell consoles to the kids this holiday though. This is why i think Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 2 are a good idea, those games appeal to an audience previously uncatered to (and thus, largely absent) on the system. That gives them more system selling potential than even MK8 (in Japan at least).
Finally someone who agrees. Been saying this since it launched in Japan that those were weak numbers but no one wanted to admit it.
Under 9k but still selling more than PS4
In the land of the blind, the man with one eye is king.
Yes both are doing poor, Wii U is more worrying though given its already received a handful of big titles which have all failed to sustain a strong bump in hardware sales.
Home consoles are selling horrible in Japan, though.
Game has still sold over 500k units in Japan, regardless if it didn't move a ton of consoles, the game has sold great there.
It is funny to me seeing everyone mention the PS4 dropping but as usual everyone ignores the fact that the Wii U has been dropping also and consistently by pretty big numbers for a while now. Why does the Wii U always get a free pass? It always seem like a dark taboo to ever mention the Wii U doing badly too. Even though the PS4 is still low the number has been fairly consistent not as if it makes a big difference because they are both bad for numbers but just saying. MK8 didn't do anything in Japan really, why people just can't accept that is beyond me. Other than at launch but even then it was low for a game like MK8 but after that the numbers have been dropping lower and lower. Wii U has games though so I can't say the PS4 will be in any better position when it gets games there either. I am just trying to understand why the console market has been so dead there lately. I know they increased the taxes and what not but like I said they can afford the 3DS and Vita just fine it seems. Surprising that the Vita has actually been constantly keeping up with the 3DS in Japan.
The WiiU doesn't get a free pass. People are always pointing out the WiiU's disappointing numbers. The PS4 is the one that gets a free pass.
I agree with Kon. Everyone always knocks on Nintendo but yet they are at the top of the charts with less than 10k units sold? Sony is the one getting an easy pass. Nintendo is working its but off. PS4 Has no excuse for their sales.
How bout this the PS4 is in its first year with no japanese exclusives and Wii U got Mario Kart and its selling hardware with those numbers. Really the PS4 can't have excuse ? I guess the Wii U does get a free pass, his point is proven. Its funny when the argument is people are bias of the PS4 when you guys are just as guilty with the Wii U, same shit. Let me say this again, lol. THE WII U HAS MARIO KART yet its pulling off those numbers, but the PS4 has shit and it got beat by the Wii U by a hair in Japan, yeah, no excuse PS4 go kill yourself.
Again. If what you say about wii U is true wouldnt that mean the PS4 is sucking more than the Wii U? Your argument only makes the PS4 seem worse bro if it isnt selling as much as Wii U
The PS4 came out in one month and beat the Wii U lifetime sales what does that say ? My point is that the Wii U got a big boost from Mario Kart not a huge boost not even close, now look at the hardware numbers, what that tells me is if Zelda were to come out for the Wii U the same thing were to happen and whatever future games come out on the Wii U. The Software sales will be good, but don't expect the same hardware sales that the Wii got last generation, its over, the casual fanbase are on smartphones or playing Fifa or whatever shit they're playing. PS4 is coming out with two big long awaited games FF15 and Kingdom Hearts 3. No fanboy bullshit will stop those games from pushing monster numbers in Japan. GG Wii U just like GG Vita with the 3DS. The Vita is really working its ass off, trying to make people like it when its right next to the 3DS beast and its doing a great job. Its the only thing close to its hardware sales in Japan.
@TongkatAli - the PS4 has not sold more in Japan than the Wii U, stop smoking the crack. Maybe worldwide, but in Japan the PS4 has sold like 500k units. Wii U is 3 times that amount in Japan. And the Vita is still being outsold by the 3DS, this week by almost 30k units. Don't say it's close when lifetime they are miles apart.
@Neonridr "Maybe worldwide" seriously? Maybe? LOL the PS4 has sold like over 3 mil more than the Wii U worldwide and you still said "maybe" like they are even close! Not just in Japan, MK8 didn't even make a significant impact in UK and "maybe" not even anywhere! I swear Nintendo fanatics over here guaranteed that MK8 will help the Wii U obliterate the competition just because it's MARIO KART! EVERYBODY LOVES MARIO KART! Just like how they said SM3DW would and Pikmin 3 before that uh and DK Tropical Freeze, Wonderful 101...NEXT, Smash Bros!
Well it kind of does have an excuse. The PS4 has no games for the Japanese Market, especially not exclusives The Wii U; Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros U, Monster Hunter 3G, Dragon Quest X, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Mario World 3D, Mario Kart... The PS4: FFXIV: A realm reborn I think if the PS4 had a japanese release as big as Mario Kart and went back to 10k in the following week, people would call it out. Its not that the PS4 is getting the free pass, I think people are just waiting for something noteworthy to be released first (Deep Down, Maybe Drive club?)
@Motherlight you are failing miserably at sounding like you know what you are talking about. up to about 2 months ago there were 5 - 10 articles Spitting the same biased hatred about the Wii U's numbers. How it was dead and Nintendo should go 3rd party. PS4 would outsell it in japan within a few weeks to a month. right before the MK8 release something changed. now the system has been doing OK numbers and with some heavy hitters it seems to be getting better. IMO the one game that will push numbers in Japan is Fatal frame and we get info on that tomorrow.
500k+ units in game sales is nothing?
500K is decent, but this game isn't shifting hardware like Nintendo expected, and the overall install base just isn't there. Bottom line is that Mario Kart 8 is going to be one of the worst selling entries in the series. http://www.polygon.com/2014... I bet Nintendo have to adjust their predictions down.
decent? Any PS4 games in Japan move anywhere near that amount?
Wii U YTD 305.438 PS3 YTD 310.426 wii u is selling worse than PS3 in japan this year. Wii U YTD 305.438 Wii U Last YTD 363.451 Wii u is selling worse than last year. http://www.neogaf.com/forum...
where did those numbers come from.. VGChartz? :P
From Media Create, the same source as this article's numbers.
WiiU is fighting a different fight than the PS4 and Xbox One. As far as the tech used in the WiiU, it's about a generation behind. From the looks of the PS4's sales numbers in Japan, it looks like the Japanese buy consoles based on the available games where North Americans and Europeans buy based on future games. When the right software is released, Japanese sales should increase. Money is also a factor in Japan right now with the increased sales tax that hit April 1st not to mention some pretty ugly weather hitting Japan. With the massive typhoons hitting, gaming is probably falling down the priority list.
Not really. Wii U Tech is in between last generation and PS4. It noticeably stronger than PS3 and X360. You have to be a blind fanboy to say otherwise.
The WiiU is a great console with some must have games in it's library. It probably gets the most play in my household currently, but that is mostly due to the fact my kids have more time to play than I do. The tech in the WiiU is the latest in last gen tech. It holds the lead as far as power goes, but it also released many years later. Just the fact there are so many comparisons between the PS3, 360 and WiiU backs that up. Here's a nice comparison of NFS. http://www.youtube.com/watc... The WiiU looks a little better, but if the three weren't compared side by side you would have trouble telling which version you were watching. Batman is the only game I own multiple copies of. Other than looking more shiny, it looks nearly identical. http://www.youtube.com/watc... The gamepad is the big differance between them and shows what the gamepad can do if developers take advantage of the second screen. If you can back up your statement about blind fanboys not being able to see the WiiU as being stronger than the last gen, by all means enlighten us. I think the WiiU is a great console, but I don't share your views of it being competative with the newest gen of hardware.
Yet it outsold PS3 in the first 52 and 54 Weeks for both system life spans.
Happy for Wii U still hanging in there (#1 home console). :)
and hyrule warriors is coming and i know japan will go gaga for splatoon
I thought everyone around here hated the Mosou games. But now since it has zelda slapped on it, its awesome right?!
when have i ever hated on musou games? go ahead check my history. I've played over 650 hours of warriors orochi before hyrule warriors was even announced. Plus japan love musou games
ps4 needs more japanese games
Japan is definitely into handhelds more than home consoles and it'll be tough for the Xbox One just as it has been for the WiiU and PS4.
