Crytek: Crysis Warhead our last exclusive PC game, ports will be unique

"Of course Warhead has been under development for quite some time, and we had no desire or intention to disappoint our loyal PC fans. So, after some careful consideration, we decided to continue our support for the PC Crysis franchise with this release. But yes, all new franchises we develop in the future will be created with a cross platform strategy in mind." (Culture, Dev, Industry, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

well if you had read the whole interviews and not the "out of context "snippets, that isn't the case
They have said time and time again, that the Crysis franchise is pc exclusive not the first Crysis game alone, so it is to be expected, it's not like they said that every single game after Crysis will be multiplatform and then went back on their word with Crysis Warhead, Botttomline, Crysis is pc exclusive FRANCHISE, everything else will be coming for consoles, don't worry

These articles just slant things just like Hideo's words were taken out of context to imply the ps3 sucks by taking just one quote in the interview, but when you read the whole interview, that isn't the case, Read the pc play interview and you'll find out that Crytek didn't go multiplat because of piracy, It was the next logical step, Even if Crysis sold 10 million copies, they would've still expanded their market, it doesn't make sense to stay exclusive these days, why do you think Devil May Cry 4, Burnout Paradise, Saint's Row 2 are coming to pc now?

well as much as i love cryteks work it has to be done, crysis was one of the most pirated games last year which is not good for returns in revenue.

i bort my special edition copy and so should the others because its the people that pay lose out e.g. future titles and restrictions on software

play by the rules and we will get more

its no wonder there are porting it to consoles they can't afford the loses plus no PC can emulate the ps3 or 360 and nobodies chipped the ps3. personally for me and possibly crytek its a genius move

Yeah it sucks that it was pirated so much, but we don't need a dumbed down (both gameplay-wise and graphically-wise) console port on our PCs.

Come on guys it is so blatantly obvious that Crytek are going multiplatform no matter what happens. It doesn't matter if the 60 million Dx10 card owners all went out and bought a copy of Crysis they would still go multiplatform. The simple reason is why shouldn't they ? there is no corporation to lock them into being a PC only developer. It is insane for any developer to ignore a marketplace of nearly 25 million games machines unless they are offered a financial incentive too.

Just don't put this down to "piracy" that is what they want you to think, it has NOTHING to do with piracy and everything to do with them wanting to make a buck or two. Now I have nothing against them doing that but at least come out and admit you are sell outs rather than try to cloud things with the "piracy" crap.

I can't say I will shed a tear though, I bought Crysis and paid £30 for what ammounts to nothing more than a tech demo that was badly optimised (ran like crap on my quad with 8800gts and 3gbs). Oh and no I won't be bothering with Crysis Warhead I do not fancy being ripped off again for yet another badly optimised tech demo.

firstly i was saying it was coming to consoles this is because of piracy

secondly it does not play like crap on my system (own built system)and differnet cards

ATI Radeon X1950 pro
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
4GB 800MHz 6400 DDR2

at medium ran fine

ATI Radeon HD 3870
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
4GB 800MHz 6400 DDR2

beside low frames from time to time it was fine on high

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
4GB 800MHz 6400 DDR2

now with my gtx (major overclock for no cooling system) it runs very smooth 52fps, 1280 X 1024 at very high

btw i would consider that you go to crymod for tweaks plus overclock your card with rivatuner

Well you might want to email Crytek then and tell them the reason they are going multiplatform is due to piracy. I know for a fact it isn't because they have gone on RECORD as saying the reason for going Multi has NOTHING to do with piracy :-

http://www.videogamer.com/n...

"In terms of development for the consoles, this is certainly a logical step for us with the CryEngine 2 supporting multiplatforms,"

Loose translation "we can see bucket's of cash in a quick crappy console port so we are gonna do it".

I am glad you managed to get Crysis running on very high settings even if it is only 1280 x 1024 admittedly it took a card that didn't actually EXIST when the game came out to run it at those settings and even then the card had to be overclocked. I think you will find if you ever migrate to widescreen it is a different story. The only way I can get Crysis running decently on my PC in widescreen is if I drop it to an incredibly low 1280 x 720 which is pathetic. Especially when you consider I play every other game with maxxed out settings at 1680 x 1050.

As for overclocking just to get Crysis to run decently.. erm no thanks I work hard to pay for my hardware and I don't consider it a handy idea to run hundreds of pounds of hightech gear into the ground just to get an extra 2-3 fps. I probably would try the tweaks at crymods if I had any interest in playing the game anymore, but since it was little more than a tech demo there is no real incentive to play it through more than once (and I love fps games).

Crysis doesn't have a piracy problem because its hardcore PC FPS with a considerable hardware requirement. Crysis is more of a showroom game to flex your PC's muscle.

CoD 4 on the other hand is much more popular target.

of coarse they are bringing it to consoles it would be dumb not to

plus i can play it higher than 1280 X 1024 (plus it is widescreen just stretchers the image but can play at 4:3 as well) at 1920 X 1080p (at 27fps) but i use the hdmi on my hdtv for my ps3

i did work hard for my cards my laster 9800 GTX only cost £195 (cclonline.com)

plus the frames from my 3870 was 30 on average (at 1024 X 768) but now it is 52fps at 1280 X 1024 on GTX

the overclocking is relatively safe as most gpu will require a restart at 80 degrees but can take 120

the tweaks are very good would consider them big improvement after tweaks on gtx compared to before

also get updates for your card from nvidia

"of coarse they are bringing it to consoles it would be dumb not to"

That is what I have been saying. There is no point to being a PC only developer, it doesn't matter if there was zero piracy on the PC you would still see PC developers going multiplatform. Look MS and Sony poor tons of cash into keeping games exclusive on their consoles. With the PC you have none of that, there is no "organisation" that ensures a game is a PC exclusive by writing lovely big fat cheques to developers.

The days of "pc only" games are long over, not because there is something wrong with the PC market, not because of piracy and certainly not because the PC is dying. It is simply down to the fact there is nothing to compel a developer to be a PC only developer. The same is also true of the 360, it doesn't make sense to just make a game for the 360 and ignore the PS3 and PC so at best all you will ever get on the 360 is "timed exclusives".

The only console bucking this trend is of course the PS3. Sony spends a lot of money ensuring none of it's "exclusives" ever appear on any other format eg Uncharted, Resistance and Killzone 2 etc. With games now coming in at nearly 100 million to produce, it does make you wonder how much longer they can keep it up.

But back to my original point which is "piracy" has very little to do with Crytek going multi-platform. I just get tired of people farming that excuse out when ever a PC developer goes Multi. It is down to money pure and simple. They made a fair bit of dosh in the PC market, I believe Crysis has sold well over 1 million copies now. Obviously they want more money so they are pushing a half arsed port onto the consoles.

lol, did you people read the interview?
Looks like the guys at destructoid don't know how to read. Says right in the quotes Crysis franchise is PC exclusive.
theox2g7 + 2223d ago
Guys learn to read, who da hell came up with that title?
They clearly stated that Crysis is their last pc exclusive FRANCHISE not game, and knowing that Crysis is meant to be a trilogy, Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 will be pc exclusive, They've been saying this for ages now, Never did they say anywhere in their interview or any other interview that Crysis:Warhead is their last pc exclusive, They did say all other FRANCHISES will be multiplatform, that is a given and a good thing for console gamers

http://www.pcplay.hr/module...

PC Play:You confirmed that it's impossible to make Crysis run on an console, but yet there are constant rumors that it's nearly inevitable. Can you finally give us, our readers, and the industry the final answer on that matter? Is Crysis going to be ported to a console?

Cevat Yerli: Crysis as we have seen is impossible. Crysis would have to be largely changed to bring it to Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. Crysis is designed to be PC Exclusive. Our internal focus is not linked to bring Crysis to consoles.
