After teasing us that they were working on a couple of new IPs, and one might be revealed in 2014, Gearbox has announced Battleborn, a new “AAA hero-shooter experience” coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Looks interesting, however I can't shake the feeling that it's going to end up being Borderlands with a different art style. I hope it's not 4 already created classes, I would prefer we can customize our characters from head to toe.
I would assume its 3rd person, as I think some of that was rendered "in game engine", based on the particle effects and textures. Plus, there are melee characters, which are generally terrible in FPS settings. I really like the aesthetic. Could be promising. Edit: Reread the press release: FPS. What a disappointment. So yeah, a re-skinned Borderlands with sci-fi/ fantasy elements. Honestly, this gen needs some bloody creativity.
"So yeah, a re-skinned Borderlands with sci-fi/ fantasy elements. Honestly, this gen needs some bloody creativity." It's Gearbox...the biggest success for them has been Borderlands and after the Aliens CM fiasco they need the money to keep rolling in. I doubt they would take any risks now To be honest I don't know why they didn't just make Borderlands 3 instead of getting another studio to do a last gen "Pre-Sequel" game
I think its a great move by Gearbox...and you can't say the have fear of taking risks...they are not only completely redoing the Homeword Games but funding and releasing a new one. These days...I would call that risk.
It is FPS meets MOBA. That may not be the most "creative" thing ever conceived, but I don't know of any other games out that are already doing what this is setting out to do?
I wouldn't worry too much. I think this is a clever idea, combining the likes of League of Legends with FPS. It seems like a different beast from Borderlands although I do understand your reservations (particularly about this being a FPS). I'm intrigued but yes, I would not get carried away with excitement just yet.
Borderlands? This is more like titanfall.
Maybe I'm interpreting too far, but I'm assuming that it'll be possible to explore the whole world and it'll be MMO-y à la Destiny. The assumption comes from the characters joining mid-battle and the zoom-out at the end
This is going to be either a masterpiece or turd because Gearbox.
Scheduled for 2015/2016. Nice to know that it will be actually released in 2017. Until the delay announcement, I don't put games on the anticipation list anymore. About the style, we had lots of styles about 5 years ago, then black and white and pixels for indies and ultra realistic for AAA. Now we can see the eye popping coming (this, Fortnite, No Man's Sky, Sunset Overdrive). Don't even need to say that in some few years "everyone" will hate eye popping and will beg for realistic. Then the cycle will continue cycling. As for the game itself, well, as said, it is Gearbox. They only hit the mark once, so I'll wait for gameplays and previews from trusty sites.
That steampunk robot with the gun-cane is amazing. He's quite the gentleman too.
He reminds me of Sir Hammerlock :D Need to see more, but they've got my attention. The official page says that it's got a cooperative campaign and competitive multiplayer. I really hope they include splitscreen, my girlfriend and I love playing Borderlands splitscreen so that would be awesome!
hopefully they have learned a lot of borderlands series and this game will also be amazing like borderlands
The big guy has a really tiny head XD!!!
