Japan Console Sales Flat Despite PlayStation 4 Release

Japanese console market flat year over year in spite of PlayStation 4 release earlier this year. (PS4, Sony)

Give them time. The JRPG games haven't come yet.

PS4 would be beyond 10m if Japan would buy it like they buy handhelds.

Thats because Crapcom couldn't finish Deep Down in time.

There is just not much motivation to get it right now, even if it has the most games, which of them are they actually interested in? Thats the problem there.

It didn't catch on like people thought it would. I have a PS4 at home but I'm always out so my 3DS and Vita get more use. I'm more of an one the go type of person.

Most of the people I know are the same way.

The PS4 also lacks games that appeal to me. When I do play a console, it's my WiiU.

So basically half of the PS3 sales are now PS4 sales. There are way more games on the PS3 coming than on PS4 over in Japan so I wouldn't expect a spike in sales until developers start making the transition. Even then, you are more likely to see a decrease in PS3 sale, and increase in PS4 sales and a flat market overall. The only thing that will make it spike is a barrage of high profile releases. I think when we come back in a year we will see a different situation.

Yeah, you will start to see PS4 sales pick up as more games start to release. I'm not saying it will start flying off the shelves though.

It's not like the west where people rush out to buy a console and patiently wait for promised support. In order to sell, you need to have something out that makes people want to buy it.

Not many Japanese style games came out for it, Yakuza Ishin is also available on ps3, Dynasty Warriors 8 is a year old game that came out on ps3,Deep Down hasn't come out yet ,and Final Fantasy XIV requires a sub and is available on both ps3 and PC, there's a port of Samurai Warriors 4 coming, but it already came out for ps3 and vita, the rest are mainly western games, there was Lily Berigamo but that got canceled, there's a new Guilty Gear coming but that's about it, and maybe that Dragon Ball game which is also going to be available on ps3. they seriously need to announce some ps4 only JRPGs .

I can see PS4 selling very slow in Japan unless Persona 5 or Tales of Zestiria move to the PS4 console, nothing really for the Japaneses gamer on PS4 yet hence why the delayed it in Japan
