Inafune "feels responsible" for poor reviews of Yaiba

GR-UK writes: Keiji Inafune, one of the men responsible for Capcom classics such as Mega Man and Dead Rising, talks several topics on GRTV after recently leaving the company. Comcept's producer discusses Mighty No. 9's status, a possible Soul Sacrifice sequel, thoughts on the Dead Rising movie, Yaiba's reception, horror games and even memories from Zelda: Minish Cap and crowdfunding advice for Yu Suzuki's Shenmue 3. I don't feel like he should blame himself entirely. He's been working on a bunch of projects at the same time.

That guy is awesome, I admire his talent as a game designer so yeah I agree with you.. He shouldn't blame himself
randomass171  +   57d ago
It's worth mentioning that he was not the only person working on that game either. Sometimes your game is only as good as the team you have with you.

I agree. When you attach the name of a well known franchise to a spin off game, fans are going to want it to be like the game it's named after.

Look at games like:

DmC: Devil May Cry
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
Metal Gear Rising

These games would have been better off if they were made as original IPs. But because they were part of these franchises, fans compared them to the other games and didn't like them. Especially DmC, which was a horrible Devil May Cry game and sold less than half of what DMC: 4 did in opening.

If you're going to attach a big name to a game, try to keep it close to the original or just create a new IP with a similar concept. Fans don't like when too much is changed.

Yaiba was a decent game but it was a bad Ninja Gaiden game.

The first two I agree on, but Metal Gear Rising was actually pretty awesome. It had great gameplay and matched Raiden's awesome ninja skills and crazy flare from MGSIV.

I actually really loved the new DmC, I seem to be a minority though amongst gamers.

DMC was an abomination to Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Rising was the next best thing to Devil May Cry and I would prefer a part two vs Metal Gear 5. Yaiba I havent got to play yet.

Okay, no on DmC. The problem fans have with the game is that deliberatley gives the finger to the fans of the original.
Just look up the wig scene and it becomes very clear that Ninja Theory thinks the original four games and their fans are stupid.
The only comparison I saw to the original's was for Dante and Vergil's personalities. Which they took WAY TOO FAR. Vergil is a powerhungry monster but in the previous games he sure as hell wasn't shooting pregnant women IN THE WOMB.
Wanna reboot a franchise that's fine. But don't shit all over the fans of the original.

I played Yaiba and at first I hated it. But once you maxed your character out and got the hang of the combat it actually became very fun. It was still frustrating as most of the time I couldn't keep up with what the character was doing on screen.

I really enjoyed the * bit throw back that unlocks after you beat the game. That was an awesome gem to have in the game.

I blame tecmo because they suck and got rid of Itagaki. That man's love of Weapons and leather is what made that game. THe first was amazing, and the second was really good too if you could appreciate how awesome the weapons and combat was in that game. THe weapons really were one area where NG2 improved over they first, they were freaking awesome. If you actually give taht game some time and play with all the weapons you will SEE the weapons/combat of NG 1 and 2 will probably never be achieved in a video game again.

I wish we could get a true NG game made by Itagaki, not NG3 with one weapon and crap spinoff that bastardize the NG name.

Try Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge. It's much better than the original game. They fixed the most of the issues with the original.
DCfan  +   56d ago
You're right, though, i loved NG3 Razor's edge, the combat aspect.
Most hack and slash game dont even come close to what NG Black and NG2 achieved. Bayonetta comes really close though.

that s what you get when you re bored to make a game s..Yaiba is nt Japanese developed and it even uses shell shaded graphics (cheap and lame option for a known IP
e-p-ayeaH  +   56d ago
cell shaded graphics in this game actually make alot of sense it totally captures the 80´s sci-fi/martial arts anime style with lots of gore and other cool stuff.

Its one of those "guilty pleasures" i rather call it a good fun game because that´s what it is if you like this sort of games.

Not everyone as to like the same games you know.

e-p-ayeaH  +   56d ago
