Why I’ve Turned On My Wii U Everyday For A Month

Wii U fans have had it rough since the launch of the console back in Novemeber 2012. I am not talking about the lack of quality games, because in reality, the Wii U has arguably the best library of the new Gen. What I am talking about the long, extensive and numerous droughts that have plagued the system.

Unfortunately, one of the negative repercussions of droughts is that folks will have very little reason to turn on their dear consoles, until the next big release. So far it has been a vicious cycle: New title is released -- Wii U is turned on until the game satisfactorily completed -- Wii U isn’t turned on until a new title is launched. I am not implying that this is the typical experience of the average Wii U owner, but this has been my experience so far.

However, I’ve noticed a drastic change in my playing habits – something that has become quite apparent now – and that is noticing I’ve indeed turned on my Wii U everyday for one month now. (Wii U)

Wii U feels like it has new life Since MK8. It has a great library but the author is correct about the drought between quality titles. The console would have benefited greatly by 2-3 more big name Nintendo games over the last 18 months.

I use the gamepad almost everyday for surfing, checking miiverse, watching Youtube. Clocked 42 hours in june on the Wii U, including MK, Wonderful 101, Tennis and Zelda. I barely use my PS3 or X360 anymore. Wii U is my favourite.

I turn it on every night. Bob Ross clips on YouTube help put me to sleep.

haha Nice! That's awesome.

It's more power efficient than leaving your pc, or other current gen console on all night.

Oh my god, i thought i was the only one.

Just that gentle scraping against the paint does it for me. Happy little clouds...

ASMR!! @WeAreLegion and @Concertoine, what you guys feel is ASMR!! Holy crap, years of using N4G but never had a good reason to create an account until I saw your comments. That tingly or relaxing feeling when you hear certain sounds like people eating food or painting or scratching is called ASMR videos. There are a lot of those on Youtube to help you fall asleep. MassageASMR is one of the asmrists that makes pretty good videos. There are a lot of people like us, but its rare finding them. Cheers mate.

Seriously?!? That's amazing! I'll look into them! Thanks, man. Oh, and...stick around, if you feel so inclined. Always nice seeing new users who aren't crazy.

I would of totally bought this system. If it had better 3rd party support. That might of got me into purchasing 1 to 3 Mario games. Cant justify dropping money on the system if only Mario exist on it
wonderfulmonkeyman  +   291d ago
You've done literally zero research into the content of the system. Congratulations.
danny818  +   291d ago
the highest rated games are first party games bruh... zombiiU? What else is out there that I should be picking up should I get one?!
wonderfulmonkeyman  +   291d ago
Highest ratings don't always mean "best for you".
Hence why I say you've done pretty much zero research.

Deus Ex Director's Cut is the best experience, despite the lack of some of the DLC that PC versions have, there's also a host of really nice indie games like Armillo and Shovel Knight, there's also Rayman Legends, Assassin's Creed 3 and 4, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Duck Tales Remastered, The Wonderful 101, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Resident Evil: Revelations, and all of that is just off the top of my head.
Look past Zombi U and the main line Mario games.
There's a wealth of great games on the system, even after ignoring the really horrible examples of third party multiplats like Sniper Elite V2.
You CAN find good games on the system beyond Mario.

The Wii U gets the most uses in my house and I've got both PS4 & X1.

The convenience of the gamepad is the reason. I don't have hours of gaming time everyday. So,the gamepad makes it easy to play retro Nintendo classics that makes me feel satisfied with only 10 minutes playtime.

All the games I have for my PS4 & X1, I feel like I'm just getting started after 30 minutes. Sometimes that makes it feel like work instead of fun.

I turn mine one once or twice a month and that's to play Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.

PS3, PS4, Vita, and Netflix take up most of my time, don't have time for Nintendo...
