The World Needs More HD Remakes

CCC Says: "Gamers tend to hold the titles they’ve played in their past lives close to their heart.

Classic games--if that’s even an appropriate term--helped build the foundation of today’s gaming sphere. As change happens to the gaming industry, so too do gamers begin to shift their tastes and soon after, companies are forced to fine tune their development agendas based on the constant changes that strike the industry. Digital entertainment is vastly more mainstream and as the popularity grows with each passing day, the people it attracts become younger and some of gaming’s greatest hits long-forgotten."

Uncharted 1, 2 & 3 Remastered

Sigh~ I really wish people wouldn't ask for more HD remakes. I buy new consoles for new experiences, not the same experiences only better looking. Especially since companies have already shown that they have little interest in doing "costly and time consuming" remakes like Crash or Spyro would be and would much rather port games from a generation or two ago to the next one by simply upping the graphics and smoothing out the edges.

Furthermore, I think there is a fundamental flaw with the authors logic. Take this comment here:

"As someone who pushes people to play a lot of different games, especially those that lean more towards art than pure entertainment, it’s very difficult to just tell someone to go out and play Final Fantasy VII when the game, much less the Playstation 1, is difficult to access. There are other ways around these issues such as emulators and PC-based downloads, but often times it really does come down to convenience."

You can easily download Final Fantasy VII from the PlayStation Network and play it on your PS3, PSP and most likely Vita (too lazy to look if it works), which is true for a vast number of titles. Nintendo also did this sort of thing with their virtual console, providing gamers an easy way to play say Earthbound or any number of other games. The same is true for a lot of other companies too (Sega, SNK, Capcom, etc), as we're seeing more and more classics appear as cheap digital games instead of full fledged remakes at a significantly higher price.

Easy cash cows but as someone who plays the games they like when they release, I consider it a waste of time and resources. I'd take a new experience over a slightly better looking old one.

I agree. I cant understand some of my friends getting so excited for tge last of us and gta 5 when they had them already.
saying that remaking classics is good. Im seriously looking forward to oddworld: new and tasty

Id rather see more new and fresh ideas for games than see a game I have already experienced been made a little prettier.
