"Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 was recently voted the best game engine by developers in the Develop 100: The Tech List. The voting was done by over 45 technology know-hows, indie devs, and other industry experts."
best game engine of value.lol
Another brutal blow to Crytek, their engine isn't dominating the console market as of now. They need more games on the current gen systems to show what the engine can do.
It has its drawbacks but it is definitely the most widely used and recognized engine. It makes me wonder who runs crytek. Maybe they need a new business model to help take advantage of the mobile push. No reason they should be having financial problems if it is run right. I also wonder why other companies dont try and market their engines. I am sure cd project red could sell their work.
Probably because cdpr doesn't want a thousand other games to have a similar look. Or they dislike money, not sure.
Congrats to Epic. Commercially, Unreal Engine/Epic dominates Gen8 as did Gen7. What is it that they do that Crytek can't achieve? #nopunintended
With unity and unreal engine at such a great price point it is truly a good time to be an indie developer.
Why has this been voted best engine? barely anything has been made using that engine yet...
Yet everyone that has ever used it has fallen in love with it. It's a solid engine for both indies and AAA.
I'm not saying anything about the quality of the engine, It's just way too new to be declaring the best engine ever.
Where did it say anything about being the best game engine ever? It was voted best game engine by the people who use game engines.
how does voting it the best game engine, not make it voted the best engine ever? The "ever" part of my statement doesn't change anything @ Pandamobile (no bubbles left) Old engines still get used today alah unreal engine 1 was used for duke nukem forever. So no I wouldn't assume that, and even if I did and that was the case that still doesn't make your claim that the word "ever" changed the meaning of the statement true.
Wouldn't it make more sense to assume that this poll indicates that Unreal 4 is the best engine at this present time? Engines have their day, but obviously some get left behind as technology and demand evolves.
Why are you still arguing, it makes no difference to me or anyone what you think. It is what it is.
Gears and this engine...oh boy!!
The next one will be great.
I'll be basing my next graphics card purchase around this engine and Source 2 if it's announced soon. Maybe the upcoming gtx 880 will be enough for 1080p 60+fps at high settings. Going by current benchmarks it seems the 780 can handle the Elemental demo quite well but still dips to around 30fps.. hopefully it just needs to be optimized more. Need a new card soon anyways to play the new Wolfenstein i got in the Steam sale.
Wolfenstein isn't all that demanding really but guess it depends on your PC and how old parts are. I'm awaiting the 800 series as well though and it could be when I upgrade again (880 is probably what I would be waiting for myself).
