Nearly every war has been touched on by the video game industry. Between Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and a myriad of strategy games, we have seen it all. These titles provide entertainment, but they rarely delve into the sacrifice, loyalty, and loss that is war. In making games fast and action-packed, we have forgotten what conflict really is.
Ubisoft Montpellier has created a more focused, deeply emotional story about the horrors of the battlefield and the impact of war in their latest downloadable release, Valiant Hearts: The Great War. By utilizing the viewpoints of four fictional people involved in World War I, players are taken on a journey starting with the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 and ending with The United States’ entry into the battle in 1917.
