The successfully Kickstarted Planetary Annihilation is getting a early access version. What makes this unusual is that its a boxed copy available at retail. MWEB GameZone questions if that is a good idea.
VRFocus - Kirkland, Washington-based studio Uber Entertainment is already diving into virtual reality (VR) development. Back at E3 2015 it was announced that Wayward Sky, its upcoming ‘look and click’ adventure title, would now be coming to the Project Morpheus head-mounted display (HMD) for PlayStation 4 having originally been in development for the Gear VR mobile HMD. Now it’s been revealed that the team is also working on a VR experience for its popular real-time strategy (RTS) series, Planetary Annihilation.
I (Jack, The Gaming Ground) have been playing the stand-alone expansion pack "Titans" (Planetary Annihilation) for days now, and I enjoyed the game so much that I decided to do a Q&A interview with Uber entertainment. And this is what John Comes (Uber entertainment) had to tell me/us.
James Schumacher writes: "The $39.99 price tag may be a turn-off for some, but I'll bet the $FREE price isn't. It seems like this may be a bit of a, "please don't be mad at us anymore" gesture to backers and followers who hit various levels of disgruntled from mildly annoyed to severely agitated over some of the developers choices."
I really don't like the idea of releasing an early access boxed version. Customers already supported the game via Kickstarter, this could be taking the concept too far IMO.
If its done with full disclosure i guess its ok. But I would not buy this myself.
Theres nothing they can do to make this ok. I mean aside from NOT a completed game yet in big letters on the front...
Clever ideas are getting worse every year. No wonder i'm buying less games, because of the current business practices.
Early access is a ticking timebomb waiting to go off.
