Top 10 Most Beautiful Games

From GamesReviews

"Sometimes it's nice to take a few seconds away from shooting an alien in the head so that you can look at the newly blood-spattered landscape. Games are genuinely beautiful, either visually or thematically, sucking you into a whole new world of rich forests, craggy walkways or still oceans, far beyond the violence and gore that so often gets the focus in the mainstream media. Today we're going to take a look at ten of the most beautiful titles in gaming history."

You're completely off topic....

Lon3wolf3587d ago

From the actual article:

There’s plenty we’ve missed. Besides the titles mentioned above, we could have easily slipped in Journey, although its stylized design will only get nicer with time. The likes of Wind Waker HD and Xenoblade Chronicles probably deserved to make an appearance, but were kicked out by games with purer themes. There’s also a few action games missing, specifically Gears of War and Uncharted, although, again, they were pushed out for games with less “hide and seek” focused design.

So, rather than make this list any longer than it is, we’ll come back in a few months time with more beautiful games. Because it’s not about what’s nicer, but about enjoying the view you have.

Magicite3586d ago

Beautiful doesn't mean realistic or advanced tech.
For example Ni No Kuni is more beautiful than Crysis 3.

starchild3586d ago

No it isn't. If we aren't talking about objective aspects of graphics then we are just talking about subjective impressions of beauty.

Therefor you can't say Ni No Kuni IS more beautiful than Crysis 3 as if it were a fact, because some people might find Crysis 3 to be more beautiful than Ni No Kuni.

All you can say is, "I find Ni No Kuni to be more beautiful than Crysis 3". You can't state it as if it were a fact.

Agent20093587d ago

Finally a decent list, though I'd personally replace Far Cry 3 and Crysis with, I don't know, Ico and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves?

matgrowcott3587d ago

ICO was mainly ditched because I thought Shadow of the Colossus was almost "finishing that thought" in terms of design. Uncharted didn't make it because too much of the environment was built with gameplay in mind, and I thought the very structured "cover, cover, cover" build took away from the general beauty.

As the poster above pointed out though, it's harder to decide what to exclude than it is to decide what's worthy of being included.

Child of eden
Okami
Wind Waker HD Remaster
Mario Kart 8
Mario 3D world
Mario Galaxy
Conker: live and reloaded
Killer is Dead

cant remember more now :)

Nerdmaster3587d ago

About Shadow of the Colossus, I hope they're talking about the HD version. If they're talking about the PS2 version, I never saw another game with such bad framerate in my life. Before I played it, people talked about how beautiful the game was. When I played it, all I could see was the jerky framerate.

jambola3587d ago

I'm pretty sure when people talk about most beautiful video game worlds and stuff, they mean environments and the like, not how graphically advance it is, not about framerate or any of that.

breakpad3586d ago

except Shadow of the Colossus is a lame list ..have you ever played Monster Hunter ??? half of the success this game has is due to its environments ...because some games depict rich flora does nt mean that they are beautiful ...Halo Combat Evolved (only the original ..anniversary was crap) was also a beautiful game for it s time having in mind the the available technology...Sonic 2 and many more from other console eras also

You left out The Darkness games bring those back

fan_of_gaming11d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

fan_of_gaming11d ago

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

purple10111d ago

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Skuletor11d ago

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing6911d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming11d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno11d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming11d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast17d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22917d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko17d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave17d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan17d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
