We Need More Silly Games

Rich Drummond of Gaming Tech United writes:

"The Last of Us, BioShock Infinite and Tomb Raider are three of the last year’s best games. What do they all have in common? Simply, they all carry a very serious tone. This is nowhere near a bad thing, but it seemed like the year’s biggest games were more towards the serious side of the spectrum. Personally, I’m a gamer who loves his comedy and I’m here to tell you why we need more games that don’t take themselves so serious." (3DS, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, PS3, PS4, Tomodachi Life, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

I'm tired of AAA games always trying to be serious and cinematic all the time. Sometimes you just wanna have some fun and laugh a little. I miss the days of the Gamecube and PS2, when games like Super Mario Sunshine or Ratchet and Clank could just be fun and not try to shove all of these thick, uncomfortable tones down everyone's throats.

Thank God for games like Tomodachi, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Saints Row IV. It's about time gaming lightened up again.

I do enjoy a serious game now and then, but like I stated in the article, I love being able to kick back and relax, all the while laughing my ass off at a wacky game like Octodad.

Hear, hear! More funny games are definitely welcome in my book. A lot of the stuff from Tim Schafer that I've played were really awesome.

Right with you. While I love a serious, cinematic game, I also want more games like Bulletstorm, Blood Dragon, and even Portal had a hilarious script, even if its gameplay wasn't very silly.

The best non-serious game in the last few years is definitely Just Cause 2. The amount of ridiculous stuff you could do in that game was monumental, and no game thrives on its own ridiculousness and goofiness as much. The moment they announce Just Cause 3, I'll shed happy tears that taste of honey and bliss.

EDIT: I gotta give props to Saints Row 4 and Especially Blood Dragon, too. If the rumor is true that Blood Dragon 2 will be made with the FarCry 4 engine... well, see my reaction to Just Cause 3 and copy-paste.
