4 Most Visually Stunning Games this Generation (So Far)

Twinfinite writes:

"More than ever, gamers everywhere seem to be clamoring over the importance of framerate and resolution of a game. This generation has only been alive for a mere eight months or so, but in that short life of its, it has produced several incredibly beautiful games. Here are the games from this generation thus far that will drop your jaw and take home this season’s title of Twinfinite’s Next Top Model." (inFamous: Second Son, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Mario Kart 8, PS4, Ryse: Son of Rome, Wii U, Xbox One)

I agree with this list but Ryse would be number 1.

The character models in Ryse were awesome. No current gen level looks better than The King level in Ryse. The foliage is unrivaled

And Battlefield 4 looks more realistic and has better shading than Killzone

Ryse was definitely a pretty game. The details were great but the resolution lacked. Infamous blew my mind. The 1080 resolution accentuated the detailed graphics. I think Ryse would be on par with Infamous if they could've pulled off 1080.

I also loved Mario Kart but I think the main reason its on the list is because this is the first time we've ever seen it in HD. However, I won't disagree that it is a very pretty game.
kayoss  +   401d ago
Not down playing Ryse. It looks incredible but we are forgetting that Ryse is not an open world game. Infamouse is an open world game and for it to look this good is mind boggling.
SniperControl  +   401d ago
Cant talk for Mario Kart as i have never played it, but for me, Infamous tops the list for me. Lifeisgamesok has tunnel vision for anything xbox, so he will never see anything else around him, even a graphically impressive game such as Infamous.
I played Ryse on my friends X1 a few times, thought it was quite impressive, but has nothing on Infamous.
I kinda feel sorry for him though, he will miss out on Uncharted 4 and The Order due to his tunnel vision.

To be honest, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on PS4 is one of, if not THE best looking games I have ever played. I think it can easily go toe to toe with any of the other top contenders. I don't know why it doesn't get more credit. Probably because it is a multiplatform game.
NextLevel  +   401d ago
I would say Ryse comes after Infamous Second Son and the Order 1886, personally.

Infamous Second Son

The Order 1886

I would also add Driveclub, it doesn't get enough credit for how beautiful it is.

We haven't even seen The order in it's final state yet. You can't judge that until it releases. We've seen too many last minute resolution/graphics downgrades this generation to believe all of these early gameplay clips.
MasterCornholio  +   401d ago

That's what Mr. X said about infamous but then he got owned by the developers. In general 1st party titles on the PS4 dont suffer downgrades.
ziggurcat  +   401d ago

"The order in it's final state yet. You can't judge that until it releases."

we've actually seen *upgrades* between its initial announcement, and its latest gameplay footage... so your argument falls flat on its face.
texag2011  +   401d ago
Killzone isn't even True 1080p. It runs at 960x1080.

True 1080: 1920x1080

The game targeted true 1080 but could not achieve the proper frame rate. So it was downgraded.

Do some research bro.
Freedomland  +   401d ago

You better read this to clear your foggy mind.

MasterCornholio  +   401d ago

No Tex. The single player runs in 1080P so it wasn't downgraded. Only the multiplayer runs in 1080i.

Yeah I'm getting tired of "butt Ryse". Seriously its an launch game and there will be games after it that will look better than it.

Spot on about Driveclub, have been very impressed with what i have seen so far.
There are a few 1080p captures floating about, jeez, it looks absolutely beautiful.
ziggurcat  +   401d ago

you should at least have played the games you're attempting to downplay.

all of the "facts" you've presented are opinions.

but the list is accurate - those are the 4 best-looking games out right now.
Spotie  +   401d ago
Xbox fans will be riding Ryse to the grave, it seems. Graphically, it was immediately eclipsed by Killzone, then Infamous. I'd argue The Show and Battlefield, too, in many aspects. Uncharted and The Order will be next, but Xbox fans will still be talking about Ryse.
Gozer  +   401d ago
Lol, you don't have a clue. There is nothing currently on the market that can touch Ryse visually.

...are not even in the same league as this-

I invite everyone to watch these videos, and objectively make their own decision. And yes those are in-engine cutscenes, not cgi.

You need to google "infamous photo mode" and see what pops up, heres a few teasers.

All the above are in-game, also amazes that Infamous is an open world game that uses far more resources than ryse, a on rails linear experience.

I agree. I was floored by how good Ryse looks. To the folks that are saying only the character models look good, you need to look again. The enviroments are gorgeous as well. Like you said, "The King" level is jaw dropping. Ive been gaming 34 years, and Ryse is the best looking game I have ever seen. There are times that the graphics are near photorealistic.

starchild  +   401d ago
I only own a PS4 and PC, but I can definitely see that Ryse looks incredible. Could be number one, I'm not sure. But nobody can deny it is easily one of the best.
GW212  +   401d ago
I don't believe anything you say. Nothing. I don't believe you've really seen any footage of the game outside of YouTube. We all know the deal there. If you had, you'd be saying something different rather than being the blind little kid you always are on this site. It's obnoxious. Pathetic and obnoxious.

To your last point: trust me, kiddo, you don't gross more than I do.
Magicite  +   401d ago
AC4 on PC looked stunning (foliage, weather, sea).
Beyond Two Souls impressed me more than Ryse.
What is Mario doing on this list?
assdan  +   401d ago
Pretty sure that the character models in infmaous are more detailed. I agree with three games on this list though. Ryse, Killzone, and Infamous. But I'm sorry, Mario kart? They were clearly just trying to throw nintendo fans a bone.
GotHDGame  +   400d ago
Not really. If you play Mario Kart. If you look around the tracks it is almost like everything is alive. It is really a beautiful game. When You use slow motion, you can see even more detail than you realize is there during the race, because there is just so much going on.
mayberry  +   401d ago
Killzone visuals are top-tier. The lighting in Killzone still makes my jaw drop. Particle effects too. Amazing game, and the new maps cant be touched!

They pale in comparison to the Particle Explosion Future Systems and 21,000 frames per millisecond of Battleblock Theatre.
MelvinTheGreat  +   401d ago
Best trailer ever
mayberry  +   401d ago
Killzone might pale in comparison to that and many other games, but it still rocks the visuals my friend.
starchild  +   401d ago
Agreed. Killzone Shadow Fall looks incredible and it doesn't seem to get enough credit. It looks just as good as Infamous Second Son to me.
DerekFlint007  +   401d ago
I'm still waiting for the real jaw droppers to arrive later on down the line, strangely Infamous Second Son never really gave me that wow factor, granted the sheer amount of stuff happening on screen at times is a real technical marvel but i didn't like the art style. Metal Gear ground zeroes can look amazing at times and then elsewhere can be pretty bland for me. Wolfenstein looked and ran great.

I have been most impressed with Asssasin's Creed black flag. Watching dolphins jumping out of the water, while the ocean waves crash along the deck of the Jackdaw for me is a sight to behold.
starchild  +   401d ago
I agree with you that Assassin's Creed 4 is really impressive looking. One of the best looking games I have played this year.

BTW, have you played Tomb Raider Definitive Edition? I think that game is easily one of the best looking games I have played on my PS4. I often find myself thinking that it even beats Killzone Shadow Fall and Infamous Second Son. It's hard to say, though. They're all incredible looking games.
DerekFlint007  +   401d ago
Yeah, i forgot about Tomb Raider, although i have not played it yet, it does look absolutely superb, i may pick it up over the weekend.

As you say though they are all incredible looking games, i can't wait to see Uncharted in action. The future games will look amazing and improve over time.
Meltic  +   401d ago
Good Graphics but all the games story mode wasnt good. Infamous was Ok but the other ones didint Catch up. Remember good old gaming Days when Graphics wasnt a big deal. The developers concentrated more on the storyline now its only graphic graphic... Graphic is a + but a good storyline is better to play over and over again.

No, TWO of them did. Infamous and Mario Kart had excellent gameplay.
CrowbaitBob  +   401d ago
I really enjoyed Killzone and Ryse.

Ryse was repetitive as heck, but I loved the combat so I didn't mind doing the same enjoyable thing over and over again.

I feel like Killzone did some really interesting things with the OWL. I love being able to essentially flank enemies with the OWL in single player. It just feels really tactical compared to more straight forward shooter campaigns.

I'm not much of a multiplayer gamer though so I'm certainly not going to speak to whatever the online multiplayer components were like. I enjoy single player campaigns and both Ryse and Killzone delivered for me on those fronts.
herbs  +   401d ago
Only one of these games has excellent gameplay to go along with its vibrant graphics at a rock solid 60fps = MarioKart.
Killzone = Very pretty very generic shooter.
Ryse = Awesome repeating character models with not so awesome repeating QTEs
Infamous = Gorgeous visuals with a stuttering framerate and repetitive short lived gameplay thats completely devoid of any challenge, basically made for children and casuals...
StifflerK  +   401d ago
They all look really good , not just in terms of detail but art style/direction as well.

If games look this good now , imagine what they'll look like in a few years !

Wow the fanboyism is strong in this thread.

A good list created with something on every platformer. I think opinions are generally that Infamous is currently the nicest current gen game out but lets be honest, Halo, Uncharted and Zelda are going to be leading the way shortly on their respective platforms so this argument is a tad moot no?
renerak  +   400d ago
So many sony fanboys butthurt that xbone has a better looking game, but can't accept.
Console catfight : meow -_-
But you should all know, the best looking games are usually point and click games and 2d games, nothing beats the hand drawn art. Even in 3d, too bad, for me all the games that came on consoles didn't look good, they all lacked the spirit of art and literature, that which makes games a form of art and literature. The closest was contrast but even that was still so very far away, way too far. All your games lacked spirit even on a normal level. Max planck said something, i will convert it and say anotherthing so as to make sense in this context 'make a game for everyone and you are making that game for no-one'. Almost all the games on the new consoles were made for no-one.

Was feeling all philosophical, so had to vent my philosophy somewhere. And actual philosophy was too long so had to cut corners. A great man once said 'All great men cut corners'. And that great man was me.

All of the games on this list look GREAT, but when it comes to actual GAMEPLAY and FUN, only 2 of them stand out and they are not on XB1.
