Shovel Knight Review | MONG

Each year there are a plethora of indie titles, many of them which are naturally described as "a love letter to classic gaming". These games like Mercenary Kings or Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Videogame try their best to recreate the magic of the NES or SNES era. However, while these other titles attempt to mimic the unique style of these classic titles, Shovel Knight is one of the only ones able to systematically reimagine and perfect the experience. In short, Shovel Knight is a must-get if you are or have ever been a classic gamer. (3DS, PC, Shovel Knight, Wii U) 9.4/10

Hey Kane! I'm the reviewer from the article -- glad you noticed my small dig at LBP.

LBP was one of my first PS3 games, and while I love and respect the title for it's level-creation abilities and interesting level design, I feel the actual platforming mechanics aren't as "up-to-snuff" as classic games or more recent titles (New Super Mario Bros. U/Rayman Legends/etc.).

Of course, game mechanics and controls are always a matter of preference. My preference is just quick controls that don't feel heavy and weighted!

Thanks for reading that thouroughly!

it did take me a bit to get use to the controls to littlebigplanet. but back in the day i didn't care for platforming games. i didn't start really liking them until the PS1 era. castlevania symphony of the night.
