Overhyping to such an extent might prove a double edge sword for The Order: 1886. A perfect example of overhype disaster is Titanfall, it was touted as next big thing in multiplayer gaming.
Hype sells, I mean look at what TitanFall and Watchdogs did with hype for new IPs. Destiny will be the same way. New IPs need the media exposure (or over exposure) to really sell, these publishers can't afford for these games to struggle out of the gate because no one knows about them. I for one, like the organic experience of buying a game not really knowing much about what it's about and the experience of being blown away... sadly with AAA releases I think those days are over.
Games can be hyped and well-advertise. I don't see anything wrong with that. If the game lives up to the hype, that would be great. But, if the game fails to meet expectations like Titanfall and Watch Doge, then that is wrong. In other words, Devs shouldn't lie or exaggerate about a game. I can see The order: 1886 pushing the PS4 hard graphically speaking. There are still tons of stuff We still don't know much about The Order, and that's okay since I want to discover the game the day I purchase it! That said, I don't understand why some people say The Order is overhyped.
I'm not neccessarily saying it is bad, however, it can be bad for lasting appeal to those games that don't live up to the hype or expectations though. Then, you start to see the jaded articles/blogs of those hyped up games, with overly critical reviews, which in turn can hurt sales. Sony themselves have actually been pretty good about not cramming every detail down our throats on 1st party games... companies like EA, Activision, and Ubisoft are right the biggest offenders. Edit @Eonjay It's been a great alpha experience and I hope it does live up to expectations. Just very few games live up to or even surpass the cynical gaming media community these days, such as TLOU or GTAV.
About Destiny, At least their has been some positive feedback to substantiate the hype. I really think they will successfully top Watch_Dogs but the end result will be more satisfied gamers. One magazine cover doesn't constitute overhype though. I think this is an overreaction.
It's an overreaction on a few levels man! A magazine with crazy slogans on it trying to push their product is nothing new. IMO hype tends to be on our side of the table more so than journalists anyway. I think with the drought at the start of this gen it's just making it that much worse when a game doesn't blow our hair back
Completely agree with you besides including Destiny with Watch Dogs and Titanfall. If anything, Destiny has been underhyped and Bungie is almost letting the game speak for itself with an alpha and beta. Whereas, Titanfall was meant to be a system seller and advertised as changing the face of FPS, and Watch Dogs was advertised as this "true" next-gen experience, both were decent games in their own right, but not what they were advertised. Destiny might not be industry-changing, but the game definitely plays and looks like it was worth the 10 year investment.
this overhype might indeed prove a double edged sword for The Order: 1886, the best example i can give is "Titanfall and Ryse"
Seems like a sly jab at Xbox exclusives to me.
No that is actually a practical statement. He could have said Watch_Dogs and it would have been the same.
Titanfall is the most overhyped game in the media in history, alot people who bought it and enjoyed it would even agree. Ryse was hyped by Xbox fanboys on forums and it failed on alot of levels, again alot of Xbox One owners would agree.
I don't think so. They're legitimate recent examples. Personally I don't care about that aspect. I have Titanfall on PC, although I bought it primarily because it was half price. I have actually maintained that I didn't get the massive hype behind Titanfall, but I expected it to be a decent game. It always looked like a 7 to 8 out of 10 game to me. Now that I have it, I think it's an 7 to 8 out of 10 game. The hype didn't seem to work on me, yet ironically I ended up buying anyway (for cheap, though). LOL.
Not just those but that whole BF3 vs MW3 thing back then (even though I thought they both sucked) and Smash Bros. Brawl with sluggish gameplay and online lag everywhere.
"Shooter That Pushes ___ To The Max" is a PR term especially this early in any consoles lifecycle. The Order looks great and I personally feel it hasn't been overhyped as of now. That could change closer to its release, but I hope it doesn't. The PS4 is in control, it doesn't need to over produce fake hype for it's games to stay relevant. Overhyping games 95% does more harm than good.
"Shooter That Pushes ___ To The Max" is a PR term especially this early in any consoles lifecycle. It was a PR term in the 90s. OPM are bringing it back. :)
The Order 1886 is without a doubt one the best if not the best looking game I've seen in action, console or PC. But saying it's the "Shooter That Pushes PS4 To The Max" is absurd. Many other games, namely Uncharted 4 will push the PS4 much farther.
This is the only game I look forward to on the PS4.
Hopefully it turns out well then! But there are a lot of other interesting games coming on the PS4, maybe you just haven't seen them all.
Was one of the only games that excited me, now the more I watch, the less excited I am for it. There's tons more games to be excited about though
Someone doesn't have much taste then. Come on! Guilty Gear? MGSV? Final Fantasy? Kingdom Hearts? Uncharted? Arkham Knight? None of those AND MORE doesn't excite you?
You must really love mustaches if this game is really th only game on PS4 youre interested in.
It pushed the PS4 to the max within the capabilities they currently have so it's correct. The same way that UC2 maxed the PS3 within the capabilities and knowledge Naughty Dog had at that time or how Ryse maxed the X1. They will of course find new ways after The Order to optimize the engine further and get more out of the console.
Oh my goodness. Lets not discuss the hype with Titanfail then!
The Order 1886 Overhyped? NOOOO this couldn't possibly be ? -opens PlayStation channel on YouTube- OOOOOHH I see o_0
Problem with The Order's hype is that it's mainly graphics based. No one is raving about the gameplay and saying this is pushing TPS in new directions. That hype will quickly diminish if the gameplay doesn't strike a cord with the people playing it and the people previewing it. I will say this until I am blue in the face. The Order looks like it was built to be co-op. It looked set at e3 2013 to be Sony's answer to gears of war. Considering the xbox players they've goaded onto PS4 it could have been big. Hopefully I'm proved wrong! Come on RAD.
It doesn't need co-op. It doesn't need multi-player. It doesn't need to reinvent the genre. It just needs to be a good game.
Well, I played the demo at E3 and visually it is stunning, but it felt rather clunky and the shooting was boring. I wish I was able to play a different section with a different weapon. It just felt like any other shooter and I feel its a waste because the setting and visuals are amazing. I really hope I'm wrong and the game mix things up later in the game.
I don't see how this is somehow overhyping. The game is one of the best looking titles that is currently in development for PS4. We don't know a thing about how good the game actually is, but that's completely unrelated to the statement OPM makes here.
I'm pretty sure the game will have good gameplay, look at the graphics there amazing, surely the gameplay wont be far behind, they have delayed the game after all, that's a good thing.
The game looks great visually, but so does Killzone. Graphics are great for day one sales but gameplay generates word of mouth to keep the sales going.
destiny let me down, they are doing parity with last gen consoles, unacceptable.
How do you know there is parity on Destiny? Just because resolution and frame rate are the same does not mean there is parity. Effects could be turned down, AA methods could be different, etc. Resolution isn't remotely close to the sole dictator of graphical fidelity.
http://www.cinemablend.com/... theres no excuse for destiny to not have more player count and 60FPS on next gen consoles in PVP multiplayer.
I think it's 1080p actually which I don't think the last gen consoles are doing to Destiny. Other than that you are correct, the next gen versions should have better textures, AA, and load times. So the PS4/XB1 version can end up being a lot different from the last gen versions. Also CervantesPR: Player count isn't everything the game can still be very fun and good the way it is. After all the alpha impressions from the game were very good, so I have no problem believing that they game will maintain it's quality.
It seems than most major releases cross the overhype limit these days, but the only people who believe any console is being pushed to it's limits this early in it's lifecycle simply don't know enough to know better.
They could be implying that they are using every ounce of power they can from the system. Not that this is all that is capable from the PS4.
Yeah I know, but that isn't a sexy enough PR statement. "We're doing the best we can!" vs "We're pushing PS4 to the max!"
Seems like every game that comes out makes the claim that they are pushing something to the limit.
It's being overhyped for the wrong reason. "OMFG THE GRAPHICS ARE AMAZING!"? Really? The plot looks interesting and the gameplay looks fun, but THE ONLY THING you people EVER care about with this game is how amazing the graphics look! We'd see more gameplay if you actually demanded it.
the only way for a game to get hype is for it to have great graphics. if the order 1886 didnt have the graphics it has NO ONE WOULD NOTCE
No...........That's COD and Titienfall.
well, its pushing it to the max until another game comes along and proves it wrong. but it does look phenomenal i got to say.
Sorry but Titanfall has that record as of now. When the whole industry overhypes The Order as the second coming of jesus maybe then we can have this conversation. In the mean time take this downvote.
