Lazygamer's Zoe Hawkins shares her experiences at E3. Was there groping? Was she treated unfairly? Just how sexist (or dangerous for women) is E3?
I've been to many gaming conferences and never been groped... but then again I'm a smelly man. Oh wait, no I lie I got over zealously hugged by a beautiful woman once... that was awesome
You obviously don't understand anything about sexism or sexual harassment.
I do so.. being groped by an ugly chick is harassment.. being groped by a beautiful chick is awesome.. HUGE difference
I don't get the point of this article. You weren't harassed or groped or whatever. So what are you saying? That the gaming landscape has changed? Were there a lot of instances in the past where you did get harassed? Is there a history of "rampant sexual assault" at these events?
You obviously have no sense of humor and cant let a joke, you may not agree with, go because of it.
Bad comment, should've read. Now that i did.. To be honest I think it's about time we treat people equally, at the end of the day we're there for what all of us love...
Did you read it?
glad you read it! also, yes, this experience should be the norm in the future, i hope.
You are wise LazySAGamer.
How low are the gaming news these days, so the journalist have to come with this lame articles.
Great article and I'm glad to see you had such a positive experience. Hopefully it is a sign that the industry is growing up however slow it may be.
Slow? by what comparison are you saying it is growing up slowly? The industry itself is fundamentally moving at light speed thanks to a progressive culture that is way more inclusive than anything I have ever seen.
Compared to any industry in which women wouldn't have to worry about these problems in the first place. That it is progressing is fantastic but gaming has long been known as a boys club and I know many women whose negative experiences in the industry have made them wary of getting more involved. Anything less than equality is not enough but as I said progress is still a good sign either way.
I love your hypothetical "Any Other" as if there are so many you cant even name them. Please tell me what industry that is about 3 decades old or during the first three decades was nearly as interested in this type of social progression. I don't mean specific companies I mean industry.
While that wasn't really the point, the social media industry is young and more progressive as a whole. My argument wasn't that gaming is progressing slowly compared to any particular industry it was that it is slow in general.
Catch You say this industry is slow? Women always complain no matter the industry, hell they even want to play pro sports with men. People need to understand equality only goes so far, women and men specialize in different things, people need to accept that. Its not a bad thing. Yes equality is nice, if they want equality then make it across the board, women get alot of pull over men, men are treated as dumb, cant tace more then two tasks, we are prtrayed bad in media too, zero tolerance is ridiculous, you arrest a man cause a lady said he hit, well why not see both sides. So much bs, sorry for rant
I'm a little let down that there wasn't a third conclusion you came to.... Maybe all the horror stories and complaints of assault and belittling have simply been over blown. Mountains out of mole hills and such. I have no doubt that women have had their problems at conventions, don't misunderstand, but the idea of any convention treating women like they're stripers at a club has always seemed off to me. If you want to see sexual abuse go to any rock concert with crowd surfing, that's where the real danger is.
Oh, you mean you went to a convention to experience it for yourself and had a good time? You mean gaming isnt filled with sex deprived rapist male pigs? Gee, what a concept. Good job on carrying your own stuff, thats cool I guess. Did you have to pay for your own drinks too? Sorry people make you uncomfortable at times, sadly everyone can feel uncomfortable regardless of their sex or the sex/sexual orientation of those around them. It doesnt have anything to do with being a woman, its called being a human being. Quit judging gamers, men, and any other group or subgroup based on what someone else has told you. The expectation you have that a convention comprised mainly of men are going to be sexist and want to grope you or offer to "carry your stuff" etc, is no different than me having the notion that you'll offer to make me a sandwhich because youre a female. GTFO, you dont stand for equality and against ignorance; you embrace it to garner attention, you use it as fuel. You are EXACTLY what you claim to preach against. The same as every other white knighting try hard.
I find it quite insulting that these companies believe they need to hire women to sell me on a industry that i love. I just feel like they think we are dumb or something, make a good game advertise it proper it will garner fans. Beautiful women are nice to look at, but ill keep those seperated. My chick hates gaming lol.
